. . . and a majority of 448.

And Sir Keir (getting with the programme at long last) said the agreement would:

"put in place a floor from which we can build a strong future relationship with the EU".

Started in the commons with a vote to hold the referendum. Then the people voted for leave. 2 general elections where in the first both main parties said they would respect the vote. The second with more up to date info the 3 parties offered 3 directions. Now finished in the commons. Whether you prefer referendum or parliament both were included

Predictions are often inaccurate. JRM was an advocate for the hardest possible brexit. So if anything, he's going to underestimate the damage caused by brexit.

Well here's what we know so far, Services where the UK had a surplus is out, Goods where the EU has a surplus is in. Then there's the loss of access to EU security databases. Northern Ireland has been hived off as an EU colony. Fishermen were thrown overboard.

You'd cry if you didn't laugh.

Blimey. The pro brexit narrative changes more frequently these days.

And this claim is new: "As we prosper we will dominate the EU in talks as we will be much stronger out of Europe.". Huge news. Is there anywhere we can look up and read how this is going to happen, because this is a polar opposite to what it's currently looking like.

Well, no we are not are we.

If we deviate (by lowering) from any standards or regulations set by the EU, they have a legal right to impose tariffs on our goods an services, and have right to drag us into their courts.

This works both ways, if we increase standards and the EU won't match, we can do the above, however, this unlikely with the Tories.

In effect, we are no tied to EU regulations to so e extent. Just without single market access, customs unions rights, and a right to vote on matters.

Oh yeah, btw, if the EU imposed tariffs on us, say over agriculture products, any nation they trade with, which also trades with us, is legally bound to put the same tariffs on us.

So great, what have we actually gained.

I'm very sorry but the above is the outcome.

We deviate, the EU slaps tariffs on our goods and services, as do our mutual trading partners.

This is enforced by ECJ. Though so far this seems to be the only incident where the ECJ supercedes UK law.

It is reciprocated however, we increase our standards, the EU doesn't comply, we put tariffs on their goods and services. This is enforced by the UK courts.

This was agreed by Boris as an alternative to the level playing field. It's effectively the same, just watered down.

As pointed out before by others this was what the EU wanted along with the ECJ making the judgment . It was not the outcome

Please post a link showing this is the outcome especially with regards to the ECJ as everything I have read says any disputes go to international independent arbitration"

Hi, I'll concede I completely misread the part on the disputes going to a international independent arbitration panel within the government published documents.

Still, this is based on a failure of one party to adhere to the principles of the evolution clause with a legal document signed giving the right for either party's lawmakers to potentially supercede the other party's government, if supported by the panel.

It goes to arbitration first. And if un-resolved attracts tariffs that can be challenged in Law is what I read.

"So. What actually needs fixing that will take generations to do so? Or it that just a throw away line with no subtext.

See I could offer that we are now totally free to make trade deals with the whole world while still having tariff free access to Europe as a sound reason why it's better to be out of Europe as a Monopoly Bloc.

Thank you I thought that was the case. For me I'm glad to see the current rights being upheld and hopefully will be welcome to all those who was saying we would loose all these things

And until we have at least a year or two under our belt.

The rest is just sausage rolls.

Alas there are 0 indicators that this will be any good for the UK, and a large number of indications that it will continue to be a massive disaster."

I just don't want to hear any bullshit excuses if things get difficult. I also hope it'll be good for the UK and that means closing the gap between the richest and poorest of people. A bigger step towards more equality would benefit the country greatly.

Sadly brexit was explicitly about transferring power and wealth from ordinary people, to those at the top.

This is essentially why people opposed brexit. To stop the gap between the rich and the rest of us widening.

The rest is just sausage rolls.

Indeed.

Alas there are 0 indicators that this will be any good for the UK, and a large number of indications that it will continue to be a massive disaster.well I live in teesside and the mayor is over the moon and says the only ways up ah but that’s positive forgot yr looking for negatives lol

So brexit is good because the Mayor of Teeside doesn't understand what's going on!

The pro brexit argument gets more tenuous by the day. it’s good for teesside mate he’s just doing his job

I know this has been done to death. But is there a single benefit to brexit for Teeside. Doesn't have to outweigh all the negatives. Just a benefit.

Are people based their optimism on reality?

To be out from under the yoke of the EU corruption is benefit enough for the whole of the UK.

Now stop keep asking the same question "to death"

This is the most ridiculous reason to vote the country into the ground.

Is that based on billy from facebook or just something you made up?

I dunno dude. You said it. Not me.

I know it's Christmas but this is now becoming a pantomime I'm pretty sure you wrote "This is the most ridiculous reason to vote the country into the ground."

Correct.

You're the one saying you voted this country to be poorer, for us to have less opportunities, and to pave the way to removing rights and standards simply because you have some bizarre notion that we were under the "yoke of EU corruption". (As if the EU was some abstract organisation we had no say in)

You're the one making outrageous nonsensical statements. Then demanding I answer where I got my ideas from.

1. I didn't vote leave.

2. Your OPINION, the government will remove rights and standards, is just that you're OPINION.

3. Running the country into the ground is also your OPINION.

Are you noticing a pattern here?

Apologies. I think the second time I accused you of being a leaver.

It's not my opinion that the government can now remove the standards and rights. It's fact.

It's not my opinion that we will be worse off now. It's fact. "

Okay. I don't know what any of this is about. Is there somewhere I can read up about it. And is there any reason this couldn't be done while we were in the EU?

Googled this. All I could find is Teesside getting grants from the EU to regenerate brownfield sites. Obviously those grants aren't coming in anymore.

It's fact. have you listened to the bbs tees interview yet mate ?just like to know ye thoughts onit

No, what is it, where can I find it? it was an interview on bbctees this morning with the mayor fuck knows how ya find it tho bud I’m shit with stuff like that

An interview a couple of months back.

Of course I will celebrate what is going right. I voted for it now I want to see it work. So I will celebrate where it does and be disappointed where it doesn't. But I will base all of those things on PROVEN FACTS not what my OPINION of them is.

"while you continue to ignore everything else going on in the world around you."

Is a semantically null sentence - what things are going wrong? How you you possibly know what I'm ignoring around me?

Or is that just a throw away doesn't actually mean anything style of being angry with something that you don't like? A bit like taking your ball home I guess.

A word about "The Two Wolves":

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life:

“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil–he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”

I read up about Ben Houchen. A Euro Sceptic Tory, strong on propaganda, catchphrases and meaningless rhetoric.

Reading up about the impact of brexit on the north east was interesting. Most articles seem to agree that the impact will be felt more sharply than in the south east. The success of the region largely hinges on Westminster, if the government is prepared to replicate the EU funding and investment in the area.

Cornwall is in a similar situation. The government has already said it won't match the investment from the EU.

I know for a fact that people have died in the world today but according to you it's only my opinion that people have died because I don't have figures to prove it.

Just take the Bank of England's billions splurge of QE just to mitigate the referendum result for starters.

Billions of lost investment over the years while the UK Government tore it's self to shreds dithering over actually getting on with Brexit.

There can never be a definitive figure put on something so complex as this but common sense would indicate with what information is available that Brexit has cost an astronomical amount of money unless your embarrassed to admit it because you voted for it.

Then you need your piss weak argument over requiring exact figures or it's just opinion is in your mind your free get out of jail card because your argument is totally floored.

Then you need your piss weak argument over requiring exact figures or it's just opinion is in your mind your free get out of jail card because your argument is totally floored.

It wasn’t the government that tore its self to shreds & wasted time & money, it was parliament & their refusal to accept a result in a vote that took place & resulted in us leaving the EU. Know we know they should of worked on it together but they didn’t they all wanted gain political point at the expense of the rest of us.

The likes of Boris voting down May's deal, then spending time maneuvering himself into a position to become PM. Then prologueing parliament, Then renaming May's deal and pushing it through. That kind of time wasting?

Was Boris the only one to turn down Mays deal? I’m sure she told both of those little posh boys the other day that they both voted against her deal. Was he the only jester in the house of cards playing games & that’s both sides of the political divide & berexit divide, nope it’s just he played the better game. X

I dunno what your point is anymore. All I'm saying is that Boris Johnson, who you seem to think is beyond criticism, who delayed things. You seemed to be trying to be everyone else for his part in this clusterfuck."

Basically my point is we can’t just blame one idiot because he wasn’t the only idiot in the village of Westminster playing the game of what they like to call politics. That is what the majority of MP’s do, they are carrier politicians with little thought or regard for the rest of us. Are you denying that they should of at least come together to try to sort out what most would call a mess & others an opportunity?

Fact that it cost the economy billions. Just because economics is fickle and we don't know the exact figure. Doesn't mean it's not happening.

It also doesn't mean it is. Or show us the FACTS that it is?

So without a definitive figure something is only an opinion and cannot be true?

Quite Conveniant

I know for a fact that people have died in the world today but according to you it's only my opinion that people have died because I don't have figures to prove it.

Just take the Bank of England's billions splurge of QE just to mitigate the referendum result for starters.

I completely agree with the first part of your post.

I don't really know what your asking in the second part. The government should have tried to put together a proposal to attempt to get the least damaging brexit possible, instead of dicking around with leadership contests and lining their own pockets. The opposition should have put their proposal forward for the least damaging form of brexit and then proceeded to scrutinise the government.
