Because we want the fish to come, the fish dont have some among them that wish to us harm that want to change our way of life, if people want to move to another country there are legal ways of going about it. Try getting into the states, china, russia or almost all other countries illegally and see what happens to you.

I can't see the problem with Boris saying fuck you and the fish, refuse any EU quota for fishing our water's and in return not to sell any of our fish to EU States.

Surely that would suit leavers, keeping all our fish and giving the finger to the EU.

Job done, next problem?

Possibly because fish do not recognise borders and human beings do?

Perhaps you can adapt your question to "why is it that the French want to claim what is inside our territorial waters unless it happens to be human?"

The argument works both ways.

"can someone explain to me why when fish swim accross an imaginery line 12miles of our coast they become OUR fish

but when people cross the same imaginery line in a rubber boat they dont become OUR people ?

Because we want the fish to come, the fish dont have some among them that wish to us harm that want to change our way of life, if people want to move to another country there are legal ways of going about it. Try getting into the states, china, russia or almost all other countries illegally and see what happens to you.

Werent most of the terrorists attacks been carried out by home grown radicals?

I'm also presuming we dont want people to come here to work in the nhs etc?"

Didn't realise people who want to come here to work in the NHS have to come over illegally in dinghy...

There will be plenty of french boats looking for work next year so we should get all the nhs staff we need very quickly.

Not really you specifically mentioned them coming to work in the nhs.

If no agreement on 1st January, Norway is excluding both UK and EU fishing boats from its cod rich waters.

Whilst we have an agreement with Norway on fish, they want all agreements to be a three way affair with the EU.

I also saw a French fisherman union spokesman say, that if they can't fish UK waters, then they will insist that the Dutch, Spanish, Danish fisherman leave French waters.

Is what you describe about French fishermen within EU rules

No, maybe just fighting rhetoric but they have a history of militancy.

See if macron is smirking once the fishing boats start getting confiscated and the skippers are in court.

Might focus a few minds but what other option does the UK have in the event of no deal?

In particular the bit about quotas being sold off

Apparently upto the 198os it was hard to sell fishing licences but increasing defregulaton in the early 1990s saw more licences being given to foreign companies.

There is a piece on the green piece website...a fishermen said we essentially prioritised the industry.

So yeah..bring on this disreregulation

the land of saints & sinners

As of 2019 the estimated GDP value of fishery to the UK economy is between 0.12% and 0.5%.

Whilst this has an impact on people’s livelihoods it does appear that undue attention is paid to fractionally small part of our economy.

I know that this will be jumped on as only an estimate but all other industries GDP’s are estimated.

Surely we have bigger fish to fry.....

"I see the french want to keep the Dutch and Belgium's out of their water now dont think they can under eu rules "

But that’s just like the french follow rules that benefit them but make their own up when it does not.

At least the U.K. is leaving before implementing new rules
