I have finally found one and my opinions on Brexit have completely changed. This may be old news but apparently Brexit will increase dogging in Kent , this is great new and should be celebrated.

Because I’m a customer of two of the ferry lines. They have made it attractive as it’s a good alternative to using the U.K. land bridge. They can sell cabins to the public and some drivers will like that and sell more food drinks as it’s a longer sailing which is more profitable against the fuel usage. .

The trucks are year around anchors to secure the routes. The summer season will be very profitable as the tourists will pack in.

Funny enough i heard all this the other year about aviation and planes from the uk not being able to fly to eu countries i cannot for the life of me seeing them not accepting the ECMT permit and there being a shortage as most of these things are agreed outside of the trade deal.I know you like to look on the down side but lets resume this next year,as my old dad used to say if ifs and ands were pots and pans there,d be no use for tinkers

Without trying to explain economics to you, demand drives up prices and competition drives down prices.

If there are 150000 trucks going from Ireland to France then many ferry companies will want in on the action this is called competition. Inevitably prices will rise and fall with demand but in general the increased demand for ferries to and from Ireland to continental Europe is likely to drive prices down and offer greater choice both to commercial and leisure traffic.

maybe not though as the crossing will take 24 hours rather than the 10 1/2 hours going through liverpool at the moment even with the french holding trucks up for 3 hours it will still be quicker.

This is a new ferry service from Rosslare, there is also a new ferry service from Cork to Zeebrugge, as well as both Irish Ferries and stena line more than doubling the number of sailings from January on there direct routes to France from both Dublin and Rosslare!

And that’s only announced since the start of this month!

There will be increased capacity, as well as more competition, so prices should come down, not by a lot, but should come down all the same!!

Have you missed the original posts about direct ferries bypassing the U.K. as they come on line month by month they need us a lot less. They have started. The ferries are massive and will take that crossing of the U.K. out of the equation as it’s the overall plan to bypass the U.K.

We need the imports of Irish food as we are a net importer by a big margin .

If no deal Tariffs will increase food that’s pretty much a fact

Less ferries so less work and revenue. The terminals won’t pay for people to do nothing so result, cutbacks so read job losses.

Less suppliers providing for ferries from U.K. companies. Lost revenue, again a fact.

No revenue from Vignettes paid by Irish hauliers to the U.K. exchequer if they don’t transit U.K.

Leas spent by Irish tourists transmitting the U.K. to France etc. So less on fuel tax revenue food hotels on said tourists . Facts

Repeat with Dover Portsmouth ferry terminals as these vehicles exit so times losses by two.

They are all facts apart from tariffs as Boris is trying to resolve that nightmare as we speak . Well hopefully he is. Can’t verify that as a fact.

Plans have already been made and ports upgraded for direct shipments from mainland Europe to Ireland. It was in place last year as all companies supplying critical goods like medical equipment were informed.

As I said before there’s more than one option so the competition will be there to keep prices sensible for Ireland to Europe ferries. It just has to be cheaper and easier than coming through the U.K. That’s the only ceiling plus a bit more cost for speed and ease of use.

What we maybe need to worry about is the prices rising on the Ireland - U.K. route due to a drop in traffic numbers. Increasing overheads per vehicle.. that’s going to add to food imports.

As I said before there’s more than one option so the competition will be there to keep prices sensible for Ireland to Europe ferries. It just has to be cheaper and easier than coming through the U.K. That’s the only ceiling plus a bit more cost for speed and ease of use.

What we maybe need to worry about is the prices rising on the Ireland - U.K. route due to a drop in traffic numbers. Increasing overheads per vehicle.. that’s going to add to food imports.

I do agree with you if the route was smooth running it’s quicker to go across but not by as much as you think for the trucks due to drivers hours restrictions

The ferries are looking good value, reliable and swift in comparison.

if you actually read about these new ships they commercial not tourist ships, i would think anyone who wants to go to ireland from the continent would usually fly anyway,i cant see a big drop in tourists.Tax on fuel? i would guess most of them fill up before they leave either way as they are on euros both sides what tax revenue is generated is probably counter acted by less road repairs,less strain on emergency services etc.We keep hearing about dearer food but have seen no evidence to back it up.

The shrinking of the UK economy will have the side effect of reducing the amount of CO2 we release into the atmosphere.

As an example the crash in 2007 slowed the rate of increase in the rate of pollution.

Competition relies on the customers having a few alternatives. If the traditional trip across the UK is either impossible or extremely expensive then the ferry companies can keep charges high knowing the customers don't have a choice

Because as I say in my post the usual trip across the UK may be impossible or very expensive if other posters are to be believed. So to get goods to the EU the ferry companies have a captive audience with no alternative

Plans have already been made and ports upgraded for direct shipments from mainland Europe to Ireland. It was in place last year as all companies supplying critical goods like medical equipment were informed.

They have at least got plans in place unlike Boris who appears to be winging it

By Goves own admission the truck delays in the channel will last at least 6 months and probably more.

Ferries move ships around for seasons .

There are very few tourists in the winter crossings and the RO-pax ships will be used in the summer season.

Irish ferries are mostly RO pax

as are Stena . So adjust to tourists in the winter.

DFDS have started with a freight only but as it’s a driver accompanied route they will have invested in medically trained staff as they have more than 12 drivers on board . The next step on uplift is Ro pax for tourists.

Unless they are offering it as an unaccompanied route which is possible but unlikely on such a route.

The super ferries move large amounts of tourists through the U.K. into France Belgium and Holland which are popular destinations for Irish travellers.

Yes they do fly also just like us but again look at how many families drive to Europe . It’s a big number especially for cheaper family holidays in french campsites.

Yes I would suspect the wear and tear must be destroying our roads along with the billions of journeys U.K. trucks and cars make and the constant call outs to Irish trucks on fire will be horrific.

We unfortunately are still struggling to plan because of our own governments incompetence.

We contacted HMRC on Friday yet again on our daily call and yet again still no answer on the full procedures for exports. It’s all manual now as no time for computer systems to be ready.

Business finds a way indeed but only if they are still in business .

Companies in this country are very weak due to COVID and Brexit may be a step too far for many.

The final nail in the coffin.

To be in business you have to be an optimist as you gamble every day but usually the government helps you with long term stability. This government have crashed from pillar to post l.

Ha ha yes and that’s what Gove tells you . It’s a load of crap! The helpline gives you an answer up to five days after the question and is usually they don’t know.

We know how to export to the rest of the world we don’t have the full procedures for Europe or how to handle the physical paperwork or the transition over January 1st if we require T1 status .

The hauliers don’t know full procedures so can’t price it. We could be out by hundreds or Euros per load !

Are you any wiser? No you believe the shit you’re fed from Boris! Gove has no idea what the detail is and Boris wouldn’t have a clue!

Food importers association hasn't got the full rules on certification or labelling of imports or exports .

We don’t have enough inspectors or vets and still have no rules to replace the EU rules .

We had to open an office in Norway as we couldn’t get our vat back for over a year .

We pay for products in the EU so you will know how that works too.

We need a free trade deal as you will well know if you’re an expert.

Saying what sector you're in is hardly giving away state secrets and if you knew about vat you would know under the new rules the government has said exporters wont be charging vat and importers won't have to account for it on import but in their return. Yes and when you want to sign or renew a contract for 2021 worth a few million you need to know those tariffs in advance of signing otherwise you could be out by hundreds of thousands against your plans and lose your shirt. Unless you operate in a few sectors tariffs are pretty small and are well known, if you're exporting which is what you are saying you do it is the importer paying the tariffs so not sure why it affects your contracts,

I do know about vat and if you do then you will know if we don’t have free trade with each country there is a risk it will take months for us to recover the vat from each.

We had to open an office in Norway as we couldn’t get our vat back for over a year .

We pay for products in the EU so you will know how that works too.

We need a free trade deal as you will well know if you’re an expert.

Saying what sector you're in is hardly giving away state secrets and if you knew about vat you would know under the new rules the government has said exporters wont be charging vat and importers won't have to account for it on import but in their return. So why do I have two senior accountants working on managing it then ? They must be stupid so we’d better sack them.

Do they also tell you on that website how long it will take to claim any payments of vat due back from each EU government? The issue isn’t not knowing what vat to pay or not it’s the gauging and coping with returning of funds we are owed and dealing with 17 countries individually. Accounting for it in their return is the easy bit It’s getting the cash back!

But you will know that!

Btw yes we spend a lot in Europe to help you understand the dilemma.

No we have disposed of the troll insult. Not a good way to debate.

Feel free to show me the bit on the website telling us how to transition a T1 over the new year otherwise we have to stop shipping. T2 is ok.

Also who needs copies of the paperwork on exit?

The government website says hard copies to be shown to customs. The advice given to brokerages buy government says electronic only. They seriously do contradict each other, I’m not making it up.

It matters to everyone due to cost.

We also require licences to export and import and we have not been told who needs them or how to show them on each side of the channel yet?

It’s ok we’ve got four weeks.

I assume what your saying is getting vat refunds on money spent IN the EU not vat on imports, obviously that will change from 1st jan as it wont come via the normal uk vat return, as I dont reclaim vat from spending money IN the EU I don't know the process, but as all claims here are done automatically I don't see why refunds should be delayed once the EU have set up the process, which I assume they have done.

I can't help thinking that political pressure has been applied to the authorisation of the Covid vaccine.

I'm NOT saying it's not safe, I'm not saying it's not effective and I'm not saying I won't take it and I'm certainly not saying it's got micro chips or any other shit, but I'll be glad I'll not be offered it until after it's also been approved by the FDA and the EMA. Just that underlying distrust of Boris and his toerag mates.

I have to agree, I think it is hilarious that a vaccine developed by a German and American company is somehow seen as a ‘Brexit benefit’ . I suppose they are so desperate for any kind of positive news that they will claim anything

I don't think they are claiming it was made in the UK but that the UK was quicker to approve it for use. It's good news they got so far so quick. Many said it was impossible
