"Looking from outside you are not getting much of a deal if at all. To me and many with no skin in the game the EU mafia have to make you pay for leaving so have to hurt you to stop others leaving. " There's general wide spread support throughout the EU member states for membership, so firing any further warning shots aren't of benefit. It's clear already what the limited choices are for the UK and the EU, with finer local points, having already shown the poor conditions and results that the departing state has. That horse bolted a long time ago. The willingness to compromise on each side over the final aspects of fishing rights, state support etc, are the tweaks of a deal that in total is nothing like what UK citizens wanted. The initial requirement and offer from the UK government is nothing like what is possible at best now and certainly a no deal was ruled out.

"This is all so utterly, utterly pointless. The very reasons that we joined the Common Market back in the day are just as valid today (if not more) than they were back then. Together, everyone achieves more and rowing your boat alone, just makes you tired. We are leaving the European Union solely because foreigners are our equal there, whereas in the Union of the United Kingdom - we boss it. It is all just so infantile and so completely unnecessary. Hopefully a good hard and brutal no deal Brexit will focus the minds next year when we will go back with a begging bowl." there ya go a true patriot you want a good hard brutal no deal Brexit atleast you admit it tho lol

"Well he has turned up lets hope its not with the idea that the eu will restore between 15% and 18% of the fish quota caught in UK waters by EU fleets to the UK under a free trade agreement otherwise i think he will be going home pretty quick. " It just shows the arrogance of them that they think giving us back some fishing quotas is good, its not theirs to give back, haven't they realised we have taken back 100% of it, but in order to do a deal we will consider allowing them access to some of our fishing grounds,

"We have a national song which celebrates ruling the world and its Europeans who are arrogant. Its actually beyond parody" Which national song would that be then? The one whose words were co written by 2 Scots by any chance? If it is that one, there is no reference to ruling the world and its a damn site more tame than some of the major European national anthems.

It’s about these Isles not capitulating to foreign aggressors. Go read the full words, you may actually learn something and as I said above, the words were originally written by 2 Scots.

There is a huge controversy about the song as evidenced by the recent furore over The last night of the proms. We have a culture absolutely steeped in jingoism..it pours out of our right wing media and was a major factor in Brexit. My original point then was to call the eu arrogant (quite how 27 countries can be arrogant is anyone's guess)is rather a case of glass houses.

I answered your question, try answering mine The words to the song talk about defending us from foreign tyrants but the words 'rule the waves'is clearly a reference to our imperial past. Tell me, when we’re the words of Rule Britannia first penned? Have the Dutch, French, Portuguese, Spanish, to name but a few, not got colonial pasts? What has Spanish colonialism got to do with the jingoistic culture we have in this country? How many times do you see the war referenced for example? How 'we'won the war There is a train of thought in this country that we are somehow better than everyone else. That was well and truly evidenced through Brexit. There is a difference between patriotic and being jingoistic. There is a train of thought in every country that they are somehow better than everyone else " Exactly! Linus seems to think that this applies to Uk only. I suspect he’s never been outside of Liverpool, never mind the UK!

"OK, you’re obviously not going to answer so I will tell you.sometime before 1740. Now, how much of an imperial past did Britain have at that point?" This is actually starting to get boring now. The discussion is about jingoism in 2020.Does the fact that the song was written 300 years have any difference to that issue? I have pointed out there is a controversy around the song and posted a link and cited the last night of the proms as clear examples. Yet you are still rather tediously going on about the origins of the song,as if it has any relevance to today. You have still not admitted that jingoism exists in this country, when it quite clearly does.

You were the first to introduce Rule Brittania into the thread, claiming it to be a song about British Imperialism. At the time the words were penned, Britain had colonies in the Americas, it was 50 years before Australia was discovered, some 140 years before Britain colonised Africa. "As an island nation ruling the waves was important to protect from foreign aggression hence the line and also prevents us becoming slaves hence the following line. Surely defending something is different from ruling it? Throw 'defends' into that tune, doesn't really work. Why do you hate the UK? I dislike jingoism " You seem to dislike most things.

"OK, you’re obviously not going to answer so I will tell you.sometime before 1740. Now, how much of an imperial past did Britain have at that point? This is actually starting to get boring now. It’s only starting to get boring because you realise once again that you’re out of your depth and talking bollocks. You were the first to introduce Rule Brittania into the thread, claiming it to be a song about British Imperialism. At the time the words were penned, Britain had colonies in the Americas, it was 50 years before Australia was discovered, some 140 years before Britain colonised Africa. So that’s the relevance or are you too stupid to realise it? Go and do some proper research into the meaning of the song instead of the soundbites you pick up as you google. Britain is no more guilty of jingoism that most other countries. Have you ever been abroad? What is your evidence for the 1st sentence on the last paragraph? What’s your evidence to disprove it? If you post a statement..the onus is on you to prove it You clearly cant" I don’t have to, I know it’s correct.
