"Politicians could take a pay cut!!!!" Cut the lords by two thirds and stop MP’s house switch payments along with family on the payroll would save hundreds of millions.

"Each MP costs £600000k per year on average. Don’t you think that seems a bit much for what the physically do? Their salaries cover the time they spend writing letters and holding meetings. The rest is staff and travel expenses. Remember this is average so those who don’t claim will mean some are pushing a million. Lords cost average of £75000 each so again if only 20% attend that means some must be claiming in excess of £300k These figures do not include support staff or any ancillaries to run parliament such as subsidised food and drink etc. Also does not cover overseas trips or any fact finding trips most of which 90% are in sunny countries. Wait until they tell people to tighten their belts. What a bunch of mugs we are. " Good job we wont be paying for all those mep,s , presidents, interpreter's and support staff too. ![]()

If you get a job away from home you get a moving allowance and maybe a bit off help in the first few months. Other companies will pay your rent. We pay MPs interest on loans which on average house prices gives them a nice little investment. Why can’t we say if you represent that constituency you move there what is so wrong? Then any MPs have access to apartments in London provided by the state. So they don’t earn from property on tax payers expense. Inside the M25 they commute like the rest of us. I know a MP local to me and her husband is on her payroll as an aide but he works on his business daily. How is that right? Also if your expenses are running at £600k then fuck me you shouldn’t have time to do another job. Whether it be union rep or consultant it should be you’re an MP so suck it up. If you don’t like it resign. Yes we need business experience and skills but not part time MPs. And anyway don’t we pay millions out for consultants year on year. A friend became a county councillor and I said why have you done that? He said £12k a year for doing nothing and more if he joins any committees. I’m pointing my wrath at all sides of the political divide.

Maybe a civil service office with two staff in each town so no friends and family. Nice that we agree. ![]()
