There are only two certainties in life, death and taxes I'm sure the taxman is sharpening his pencils ....

Because it's viewed as a "perk" that you don't have the expenses of travel to work, parking etc." Some people walk to work. They used to take their own lunch to work. They didn't spend crazy amounts of money on costa or starbucks. However, they do now need to spend more money of electricity and heating especially now we are heading into winter.

If you have a long commute and pay to park etc working from home can save you a bomb Even child care etc. You can claim a chunk of the money back if you work from home aswell.

Yes, not everyone which us why I started my post with the word "some". Why should someone without those costs and therefore not saving money in the pandemic pay 5%? Claim a chunk? Are you having a laugh? Most employers won't pay so that leaves tax relief on £6 a week. That's £1.20 a week or £64 a month for most tax payer. That wouldn't even cover the additional gas and electricity for a couple of months. Anyone earning less than tax threshold (part time admin type jobs) can't claim tax relief.

It's a banks idea " What I meant is that the tax will go on some tory idea which will cost a shit load of money because it is badly mismanaged. Tories are worse with other people’s money, at least Labour spent it on hospitals and trying to help people, tories spend it on contraptions which are supposed to save money but cost more than they have saved.

" Have you read of the pfi agreements signed by labour where hospitals are charged 28 quid for a light bulb the costs of these schemes is mind blowing. That in no way excuses miss spent funds by any public body or the tories but please dont think it's only one party that wastes money

If a tax was done, then the money will be irresponsibily allocated by the tories. I am sure some tories are rubbing their hands in glee on how to recover the money they pissed down the toilet on paying chums and consultants. So they would probably run with the idea. But you are right they ain’t done nothing, but trust me it sounds like something they would do.

" I'm quietly confident the records for monies spent by both of our leading parties on consultants are a matter of public record. I looked at them, interesting reading. Especially given your belief system. Given your last paragraph, you do believe "they've" done something. What do you think "they've" done? E

"Wouldn't it be better just to add 3% for everyone across the board then all pay who are working and those who earn more pay more. Like it or not we will have to pay off all this borrowing. " To be fair, I don't think most sensible people would mind or notice 3% but the government will find a way to shaft those most in need to near the brunt.

"I find it very ironic that this suggestion is coming from a bank !!!!!! Banks are THE richest businesses in the world, they got the world into the largest debt crisis in history. They then demanded and received the biggest bailout in history, while the top management still received multi million pound payouts. You can bet your bottom dollar they are taking full advantage of furlough payouts as i type and they will also be using as many staff as possible to work from home. If ANY business deserves to actually be taxed another 3%, it's all banking institutions, not the underpaid staff forced to work from home." And who do you think will actually end up paying the 3%?
