I think its important to post the original post to give credit to _abio as he broke this election down so credit due

--------------------

Via _abio

hello!!!!!!!

I know you have all been waiting this.. well.. one person anyway!

my cheat sheet primer as to what to look out for this evening......

basically the election will be won/lost in 10 states.... but a few ground rules first...

a) as much as the slappies here would like to believe trump is not winning any state in 20 that he did not win in 16 (new hampshire, minnesota, colorado nevada!)..... so lets take those off the board!

b) lets call these states "the trump 10!"....

Biden will win the election if he wins any 3 of: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina , Iowa or Ohio

or......Florida and 1 of the above!

or......Texas! (aka the promised land of all democrats)

so... what to look for....

Imagine it as 50 Local and state elections, with their own rules! which means you are going to likely see results at different times....

the overall theme is Trump have to play a shed load of defence to win......

so.... we are likely to know what happens quickly if..... biden win Florida (midnight close), or Georgia (midnight), or Ohio or North Carolina (both 12.30am)

Florida count there mail in are early voting already!.. so they will announce those result probably within an hour of closing... Georgia, Ohio and North Carolina all started counting their early votes today!

if biden win any of those 4... its likely done....

If trump wins all them... then we move onto Iowa (1am) Texas (1am) and Arizona (2am)... again you may get results quickly... again in reality trump will need to win them all!

and then we come to the blue wall... pennsylvania, michigan and wisconsin... michigan and wisconsin don't start counting mail in and early voting till AFTER polls close... some counties in pennsylvania won't start counting mail in till tomorrow morning!

michigan and wisconsin both say they are likely to have a result by wednesday night.... pennsylvania say they may not have a result till friday!

the easiest route for a biden win would be to win back the blue wall..... all 3 states were super super tight last time, trump being the first republican to win them all since 1984!

michigan and wisconsin look like they will be biden wins...... the biggest battleground is pennsylvania!

will we get a winner tonight... we could, but then again, it could take days!!!!

the senate races...........................

at the moment the republicans have a 3 seat margin (53-47)... if biden wins... they will need a net 3 gain tonight to like hold all 3 branches... president, senate and house

each state had 2 senate seats regardless of size, and each contests is a statewide contest!

each senator has a 6 year term, and normally roughly 1/3 of all senate seats are up for re-election every 2 years!

if it is 50-50 then the vice president (who becomes the leader of the senate) has the tiebreaking vote....

so... the republicans will likely gain a senate seat in alabama, which means the democrats would need to flip 4 seats to gain power

the democrats are likely to flip Arizona (John McCains old seat!), Colorado, and Maine.... so there is 3!

the question then becomes where can they get their 4th? look out for senate races in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Iowa, Montana, Kansas and 2 in georgia! (one is a regular, and one is a special because the old senator went of to become Trumps Agriculture Secretary!)... the ones in Georgia become more complicated in that not only do you need to win, but you must get more than 50% of the overall vote! or there is a run off election between the top two candidates!

.... the House races...

All the 438 house seats are up for re-election every 2 years!!! so that is more like a mini general election!

the dems have about a 25 seat majority at the moment... look for that to increase tonight...

I think that covers just about everything... how fun tonight... i have a special cheese free pizza on order to come in about 11pm!!!

here

Who are the ”authority” broadcasters in the US that ”call” the results, based on projections ?

Are the BBC in the UK doing their own calculations and projections? Florida is at 94% counted but they still won't call it. Surely the balance of 6% isn't enough to push Biden from 48% to 51%?

News coverage scared to call Florida for Trump in fear people will tune out. Biden surely is sleeping peacefully knowing the inevitable is coming.

All the bookies I looked up are favouring Trump now. I think that's more telling than any conjecture on any news channel. Bookies only care about making money for themselves and minimising their losses.

I thought Trump would lose, maybe even in a landslide. After seeing all those bookies changing their odds, I have to think otherwise.

if biden does win arizona, which is now looking likely.... it gives him more paths to 270......

michigan, wisconsin and arizona would leave biden on 269.........

then looks for nebraska and maine...... they both do their votes by congressional districts... maine 01 and nebraska 02 are both leaning biden and give him the extra 1 to get to 270 and he wouldn't then need pennsylvania!

but it means that "when" they call arizona for biden, then biden would need any 2 of michigan, wisconsin or pennsylvania to win......

and thats without georgia or north carolina......

I think what he was getting at or trying to intimate was that in individual votes he is so far ahead that if they gave all the uncounted votes to Biden then he would still have more votes.

He may be right but that’s not the way it works & by that reasoning four years ago he wouldn’t have been president.

Been flicking channels most of the time, my vote goes to CNN for coverage

What I’ve gleaned from a long night (ok I crashed at three & woke at six) is this

Called it the “United” anything is a farce.

What needs sorting is the differing voting rules, capabilities to count & the opening & closing of both polling stations & postal ballots.

Pennsylvania is v.important but it’s a disgrace that they are talking possibly FRIDAY before all votes are counted.

They also reported on CNN of voting being allowed in some States after stations were supposed to be closed or after postal deadlines.

It’s a farce no matter who wins..

It looks like its true some have stopped open after closing time. Is this a way of getting extra votes for one party or is it giving people arriving late to vote. The closing time is clear though so you decide. The bigger issue is postal votes being found on Thursday and Friday which strangely are not in on time these could have been posted 4 weeks ago so no reason for them being late if they are genuine.

The rules in some States are that postal votes will not start to be counted until polling stations have closed, in others they count them as they get them so by the time they close they’ve already done the vast majority.

It’s one vote for all, one President for all but it’s not one system for all.

All the while it’s not one system they’ll be voter fraud claims, miscount claims & many disenfranchised voters because their voting station closed on time when others do not etc.

That's not what's being said though. No they can't start counting but they can get them all in at the counting station on the day of the election or today latest. There is no real reason for them turning up at the end of the week.

"with what has come in within the last half hour.... and whats left where.. i guess biden will win wisconsin.....

so with what hasnt been called offiically but going bidens way...hawaii, maine, nevada, arizona and wisconsin.... it would mean that biden would only need 1 of either georgia, michigan or pennsylvania to win

If that's how it pans out, can the Supreme Court overturn any states decisions post any legal challenges in that state?"

I guess being a court they can rule on challenges but not order them

Is Biden likely to win any of those three?"

i think biden has a good shot at all 3... most confident for me would be michigan

"I wonder why they stopped counting hmmm

WISCONSIN -2016: 22,748 -2020: 104,963 (77% reporting)

MICHIGAN -2016: 10,704 -2020: 289,703 (61%)

PENNSYLVANIA -2016: 44,292 -2020: 696,960 (66%)"

because they are "human beings" and they have been counting all day... so they called it a day and most of them are starting again tomorrow.....

the reason i am semi confident is that the outstanding ballots out there seem to be mail in ballots from big cities when are democratic... which is why when the dump from milwaukee came in it flipped the wisconsin lead from Trump to biden....

it looks like the outstanding from wisconsin now is in green bay, and Kenosha... , if you think you have heard of kenosha it was where jacob blake was shot 7 times in the back by a policman, which led to far right kyle rittenhaus shoot two people dead.. yep thats kenosha!

anyway.... in michigan the outstanding mail in is from detroit and the suburbs, and the big college towns such as lansing, Kalamazoo and grand rapids....

in pennsylvania it looks like the big cities mail in haven't been counted yet... so philadelphia and its surburbs....and pittsburgh and its surburbs!

same with georgia.... mail in ballots outstanding from metro atlanta and its suburbs and a lot of "black" georgia (Albany, Macon, Savannah ect).... all that is likely to be heavily democratic!

probably because nevada got close... they are reporting whats left is "mail in" which is likely to break bidens way!

Biden winning Nevada and Wisconsin and arizona, means biden would only need one of michigan, Georgia or pennsylvania...

i think trumps speech last night gave the game away that he thinks he lost!

THEY'RE PULLING THE SAME

They are pulling the same identical stunt on Michigan as they did to Wisconsin

IN A SINGLE UPDATE, TRUMP LOST 5K VOTES, BIDEN GAINED 100K.

Literally identical to what just happened to Wisconsin.

If Biden successfully steals Wisconsin and Michigan; Biden wins the election.

no.... it is where the vote came from!!!

the vote in wisconsin came from Milwaukee, the largest city, and it is strongly strongly democratic!!! (actually you make not know.. but the course if this is following the path of what happened in the wisconsin governors race in the 18 midterms!... the republican was ahead and the democrat got huge gains in milwaukee to win!)

in michigan... its the vote in Wayne County, which includes the city of Detroit!!! again heavily democratic!!! that brought down that lead!

and before you start complaining what is about to happen in pennsylvania... the sec of state there, who oversees the election, says there is approx 1.7 million mail in ballots to process....

at the moment the mail in ballots have broken 80-20 for biden!.... if that holds that is a net 800-850k advantage for biden, remember the lead for trump at the moment is roughly 650k...

okay... nothing else is going to come from nevada for the time being! all thats left is mail in!

biden has a 20.000 lead... but its likely now small rural counties so i think wisconsin is done (remember trump only won wisconsin by 23,000 last time!)

trumps overnight lead has now whittled from 200k to 25k in michigan with a shed load of mail in left!.......

feeling more and more confident....

Biden is what America needs to bring the country together.... not the hate monger who has the audacity to claim to be a Christian (I'm not religious btw but I'm well aware of the virtues associated with Christianity).

As for the dummy spitting by Trump, did anyone expect any less? He's a child. Trump's tactic was to get people out to the ballot boxes by whipping up the hysteria at his COVID spreading rallies. I lost count of the times it was mentioned last night on the coverage that the Democrats would be getting a massive advantage through the postal votes so it's not exactly a surprise that the vote is starting to swing back to Biden in certain states.

Gonna be some more cracking Trump memes doing the rounds over the next few days.... (fingers crossed)

Its never good if there is a week government. From what I understand if its a red senate and Joe as President little will get done for a while. I really hope this doesn't end up with more job losses there and more antisocial behaviour. There is a lot of hatred though even from people over here its a concern that people will loose it and take matters into their own hands.

I’m not a fan of Biden I think I’ve made that clear often on here. If him becoming president calms it down in the US then that’s a good thing.

This result isn’t progress nor would be the other. Looking forward to a non event four years of senate blocking.

Even if Biden wins, Trumpism has not left the stage. These results show there is a demand for Trumps style of politics. The republicans will have to choose (if they lose the WH), do they go all in with someone like Don Jr or Tom Cotton or move back to a more conventional candidate like Nikki Halley.

Even if Trump loses, other countries will be thinking it could happen again. Unfortunately he's not an aberration.

Because unlike us haranguing people going to vote is common & with the violence of this election people have chosen to vote by post a lot more to avoid it.

By & large postal voting all over is coming it at around 80/20 in Biden’s favour. Not 50/50 as you might expect.

@_abio can people vote across state lines?

I read somewhere that lots of Californians had gone to Texas to vote...

"Trump is to ask for a recount in Wisconsin. Unoffical results show Biden winning by approx 20,000 votes"

Gorgia is getting interesting. Only 83 000 votes difference, but 200 000 votes yet to count, mostly left leaning...

"Why is Texas even close, shouldn’t Trump be winning it easy "

Still waiting on the wall. Maybe he'll have time next round

"I’m not a fan of Biden I think I’ve made that clear often on here. If him becoming president calms it down in the US then that’s a good thing.

This result isn’t progress nor would be the other. Looking forward to a non event four years of senate blocking.

America is the loser here whatever happens. "

Couldn't agree more.

The American people no longer trust democracy, which when it really pans out could be an interesting time next election.

Derry

Nearly 7 percent of ballots in U.S. Postal Service sorting facilities on Tuesday were not processed on time for submission to election officials, according to data the agency filed Wednesday in federal court, potentially leaving hundreds of thousands of ballots caught in the mail system.

Areas of high democratic support were particularly effected by this.

Trump is filing lawsuit in Michigan to stop the count until they get access to data and observe the count

All these games won’t really matter. Unless a huge amount of votes get found out of nowhere it’s going to make zero difference.

This will be a waiting game.

Which is slightly annoying as PP won’t pay out until it’s conclusive.

they have michigan GOP and DEM's on site already.... they are basically wanting more people! basically the reason why they want to stop the count is that because the outstanding mail in is from detroit, flint and grand rapids.... your 40k lead is going to end up being a 100-125k lead!

the outstanding votes in georgia are roughly from metro atlanta, and there are still about a 1-1.2 million pensylvania mail in to be counted... and they are apparently breaking roughly 6-1 in bidens favour!

he could still win both..... thats why they are turning screws.. they want to muddy the waters before any organisation can call biden at 270 to call him "president elect"...

They are saying a recount in Wisconsin will take two weeks... what's your take on that?

Yeah, I think it's is just to cast doubt on Biden winning Michigan and possible eventual victory.

Can he enforce that? Does it depend on how close the final result is?

That’s good, it was a close election between 2 very poor candidates, I just hope that the losing side can accept the result
