Are you bothered by the lies of Trump/Johnson?

This is more a question for supporters of Trump/Johnson. (Since I'm guessing those who don't support those 2 will be bothered by their lies.)

If you do support one of the pair, are you bothered by their many lies? And do you actually trust them after all the lies?

And and the old line "oh all policians lie the same amount" won't wash.

The Washington Post (a respected paper known for being factual) exhaustively documented 20,000 of Trump's lies and misleading statements back in July.

And Peter Oborne (former chief political commentator of The Daily Telegraph ie a prominent figure in the paper known as "the Torygraph") was so disgusted by Johnson's lies he collected and published a long list of them.

Should be a prosecutable offence for anyone in Government office or in fact any MP.

Lies should never be allowed. It’s important we get facts or we don’t have true open democracy.

This is a good question. They don't care about lies. It's the same as with religion. There is many lies, but people still believe.

This is an ideology. The effects in the future are irrelevant.

The politics of the noughties has rendered me apathetic. Partly by lies partly by scandal. In this age it’s incredibly easy to fact check so I just wonder why people still fall for it.

I lean to other politics now not the mainstream.

Curious to know such as?

I agree party because we’ve had mainstream since the second world war and it’s the same old same old. The average person in this country is crapped on by their own governments once the MPs realise how good it gets if you play the game.

No, it appears they are not bothered. They will support them regardless. Because.... her emails... or some such shit.

It is a level of gaslighting and propaganda not seen since WWII.

Let's look at what we know.

The Tories definitely aren't. Trump definitely isn't.

You would rather be lied to than told the truth.

It is scary to see how far society has slumped. We thought Trump and Brexit were the low water mark, and the peak victory for propaganda, and ignorance over information, fact and logic and reason.

But this demonstrates a new appetite for ignorance. Mind boggling that you not only don't seem to care, but that you're arguing with people who do.

Brexit served a marker to show when we moved to being a post truth and post fact society.

Reality, facts and evidence take second place to emotions. The appeal of Johnson and Trump is an emotional one.

Most people will pass judgement on what people deliver and their success . For all we know, the lies people keep referring to may be simply mistakes.

To put in in context if someone has told the truth a million times and delivered election success , the percentage of the so called lies ( if any)becomes irrelevant .

What matters is success and delivering a better life for voters. I think that the electorate has already confirmed that.

The voice of the white middle class elite who are fully paid up members woke brigade has already being judged by the electorate .

"This is more a question for supporters of Trump/Johnson. (Since I'm guessing those who don't support those 2 will be bothered by their lies.)

If you do support one of the pair, are you bothered by their many lies? And do you actually trust them after all the lies?

No, it appears they are not bothered. They will support them regardless. Because.... her emails... or some such shit.

It is a level of gaslighting and propaganda not seen since WWII.

They support them because the alternative is worse. Sad but true

This is where we've arrived at in 2020. People openly saying that being lied to is preferable to being told the truth.

Scary stuff.

Who is telling the truth?

Let's look at what we know.

The Tories definitely aren't. Trump definitely isn't.

You would rather be lied to than told the truth.

It is scary to see how far society has slumped. We thought Trump and Brexit were the low water mark, and the peak victory for propaganda, and ignorance over information, fact and logic and reason.

But this demonstrates a new appetite for ignorance. Mind boggling that you not only don't seem to care, but that you're arguing with people who do.

So 17.4 million people made a decision due to ignorance? Wow

Is anyone who has a different opinion to yourself ignorant/thick?

I don't know why each and every leaver voted they way they did. But generally absolutely yes people voted out of ignorance. We knew Brexit would go the way it's going, and people voted for it anyway.

And the rest of this is your words, not mine.

Personally I don't label people as thick or ignorant. And so far the only person with a different opinion to me on this thread is you. With your opinion that it's better to be told lies than the truth. Which is a fairly extreme opinion, and even then I've no interest in insulting you.

I have never said it's better being told lies than the truth, I simply asked who is telling the truth? And did I say I voted for Brexit? You could just as easily say that people voted to remain because of lies, fear and ignorance couldn't you?

Okay you said "they support them (liars) because the alternative (non liars) are worse".

I assumed "they" included you, in this instance, or why else would you be making this point. Apologies if not.

And that's just ridiculous. Remainders voted to stay in the EU. Which we knew what that meant, and not for the cluster fuck of leaving. Where is the lie there? We don't need to go over all the leaver lies. It's been done to death."

What did remaining in the EU mean?

Membership in a community of stability, democracy, security and prosperity;

Stimulus to GDP growth, more jobs, higher wages and pensions;

Growing internal market and domestic demand;

Free movement of labour, goods, services and capital;

Free access to 450 million consumers

Where did you read this? On some comedy toilet roll?

Brexit cost the economy over £200 billion this year.

Much Worse? Do you have a crystal ball? What could be worse than it is now?

Crystal ball? No, hindsight

How can you have hindsight over something that hasn't happened?

Has there never been a previous Labour government?

There hasn't been a labour gmnt ran by starmer or corbyn so your argument is completely flawed.

No there hasn't but they are 10 times worse than the people who led a Labour government in the past, so not that flawed

You dont.

It's your opinion.

Mine and the majority of the electorate,

And hows that working out for you so far?

OK, over the last 11 years apart from the government supporting remaining in the EU things have been fine. And since March who can say what the government got right or wrong with regards to covid? Death rates seem comparable across Europe even with different levels of lockdown but this government has given one of the highest levels of financial support in the world through its furlough scheme, though I'm sure you will knock that too

We have more deaths than any other European country, the furlough scheme is very good and does compare well with other EU countries. As we are comparing the UK with other EU nations do you think we will recover faster than them post COVID ? Will leaving the EU be a benefit ? And do you think leaving with a no deal is better than leaving with Boris’s oven ready deal

-Matt

They support them because the alternative is worse. Sad but true

Ill repeat

How do you know that?

You dont.

It's your opinion.

Mine and the majority of the electorate,

And hows that working out for you so far?

Well given we only had 3 months before covid struck, hard to say, wouldn't you agree?

Haven't the Tories been in power for 11 years?

And why aren't we allowed to consider the lies and failures of the government since March?

OK, over the last 11 years apart from the government supporting remaining in the EU things have been fine. And since March who can say what the government got right or wrong with regards to covid? Death rates seem comparable across Europe even with different levels of lockdown but this government has given one of the highest levels of financial support in the world through its furlough scheme, though I'm sure you will knock that too

You are aware of something called austerity?

Yes it's still happening throughout most of the 'prosperous' EU

So you're saying austerity is good. Or bad?

I'm saying neither but were we put into austerity measures by the Tories or by the EU? "

The Tories. Unequivocally.

It's been done to death.

What did remaining in the EU mean?

Membership in a community of stability, democracy, security and prosperity;

Stimulus to GDP growth, more jobs, higher wages and pensions;

Growing internal market and domestic demand;

Free movement of labour, goods, services and capital;

Free access to 450 million consumers

What did leaving the EU mean ?

Stability, democracy, security and prosperity? hilarious.

What did leaving mean? An improvement on all of the above . Last time I checked,indications were that by leaving we will be better up by up to £800 per annum. This is a not an insignificant saving , especially to the poorer members of society .

Please tell me where you read this?

The conservative manifesto"

Yeah, comedy toilet paper. As I said above.

I think you need to reread the EUs guidelines on austerity. And then read about the difference between EU guidelines, reccomendations and policies. And about what makes it into British law and what doesn't.

"Your beloved EU". What planet are you on. Just because I don't like being lied to and can understand information. Doesn't mean the EU is beloved to me. There's plenty of it I don't like.

Anyhow. I've had enough of any kind of discourse with someone who prefers being lied to, thinks the Tories are ace, and that Brexit is a good idea.

Have a good rest of the day.

The EU states you cannot have more debt than GDP (in effect be bankrupt)and be part of the EU.

They didn’t get the banks to lend our money to non working Americans our banks did that all by themselves.

The austerity came about due to the U.K. government bailing out the banks. They are even today paying bonuses which are obscene and yet we are not getting their help over Covid.

So no the EU didn’t impose austerity our own greedy bankers are to blame.

Watch the film the big short and you will see how it was done. Guess what , they are doing it again as we speak.

This is a complete lie. The EU only imposes budget deficit restrictions to countries that use the euro. We don’t. Try again and please stop lying. Austerity was an ideological decision made by the tories who had been dreaming for decades to screw the public sector. End of.

Well that was a lot of replies. I'm always amazed at the way certain people happily ignore so many lies. And how they try to say "oh they're all as bad as each other."

Especially since I posted this right near the start of the thread:

And and the old line "oh all policians lie the same amount" won't wash.

The Washington Post (a respected paper known for being factual) exhaustively documented 20,000 of Trump's lies and misleading statements back in July.

And Peter Oborne (former chief political commentator of The Daily Telegraph ie a prominent figure in the paper known as "the Torygraph") was so disgusted by Johnson's lies he collected and published a long list of them.
