This is doing my head in.....

Can we just call it what it is..... no deal...

You keep trying to shine the “no deal” turd by calling it other things!

The WTO deal..... the bespoke deal... the bespoke arrangement.... and now the Australia style deal!

If the Australia style deal was so good... why are the bloody Aussies negotiating a new deal with the eu....

Stop polishing the turd.... the turd is still a turd!

We were always heading for a no deal in my opinion.

Which begs the question how much money and time we have wasted.

It is now obvious that there will be no, no deal, despite his bluster boris and his puppet masters are terrified of a no deal scenario, all deadlines pass with the UK side bluff being called, all the dealines have passed with the UK comprising on there red lines, of course the canny eu know all this, they have been negotiating with far bigger players than the ukfor the last 60 years, before xmas the eu will get everything they want, and the UK will become just another economic vassal state like Norway or Switzerland, history will be much kinder to Teresa may when in a few years it will become apparent that the deal offered to her was the best that any British prime minister could possibly have gotten from the EU,

Quote from Ireland EU commissioner

Boris Johnson said the choice in talks was between a trading relationship with the EU "comparable to Canada's" or "more like Australia's".

But asked about the phrase after a speech at a think-tank in Brussels this week, Mr Hogan, Ireland's EU commissioner, said: “We do not have an agreement with Australia. I think that’s code for no deal.”

Australia has a few bi lateral deals with a limited number of products and that’s I’ll folks. Calling it an Australia deal is Boris bullshit!

Without the EU we are now weak in getting trade deals so tax haven and sweat shops it is then.

I really think Boris plays a simple game and it’s worked very well for him so far. In this instance he’s shown how very basic and simple his approach is and I think we are all going to pay dearly.

The EU can afford to lose a few fishing rights. It’s not a lot of jobs or money.

David and Goliath. David in this instance doesn’t have a catapult so is in the shit!

Brexit has always been about trying to show the world that we have a bigger cock than everybody else. That’s the only thing that matters. Brexiters have never given a toss about the financial or political consequences of their fantasies.

And we know that people who brag about having a big cock are often the ones who have the smallest bean in their boxer shorts, like the brexiters.

Little England with its small cock is trying to tell 27 other countries that it should be given what our brexiters cry babies want and demand.

Well, it looks like the easiest and oven ready deal was like everything else in the brexit world: Bullshit and arrogance. It’ll soon be time to look at the small spaghetti in your pants and land on planet Earth.

Probably the first time I’ve ever used this word in any of my posts so you probably have an issue with the word ‘obsessed’ You probably don’t understand what it means either. Instead of throwing your toys out of the pram (second time), try to focus on the content in the message and tell us how your spaghetti is shaping up.

It’ll soon be time to look at the small spaghetti in your pants and land on planet Earth.

looks like you have a cock size complex mate your obsessed with cock lol

Probably the first time I’ve ever used this word in any of my posts so you probably have an issue with the word ‘obsessed’ You probably don’t understand what it means either. Instead of throwing your toys out of the pram (second time), try to focus on the content in the message and tell us how your spaghetti is shaping up. "

same back mate instead of you going on about my grammar and spelling focus on the post btw I loved your post it made me laugh lol

We’ve already had that debate. I struggle to understand how somebody who doesn’t understand the word ‘they’can be a specialist on the ECJ or a no deal brexit. I gave you the example of a person trying to build a rocket but who doesn’t know his times tables. I can’t be clearer than this.

There’s nothing arrogant about this. It’s just the sad truth.

I don’t disrespect people who can’t spell the words ‘they’re’. I’m just saying that it makes them less credible when they write or talk about things as complex as Brexit or politics.

It’s much easier to tell me that I’m insulting you ( which I am not) than fixing the problem. Maybe you should take 10 minutes to fix it. It’s really simple.

No, like a proper Tory, you should try to better yourself. Don’t expect any empathy or pity from other people. Take the matter into your own hands. Sort it yourself. That’s what your idol miss Maggie would tell you.

"No eu deal has been done until just past the deadline, why waste all those first class suites in swanky hotels eating 5 star food all on tax payers money.

Because Boris and his cronies wont stay in cheap hotels??

Nothing to do with boris or this deal I'm talking every EU deal ever.

All these bureaucrats love their moment in the lime light

I see, so it’s only the EU that ramp up the expenses? Tbh , Brexit will have cost the UK £200 billion but my the end of the year, a few million on hotels and food won’t make much difference

Of course it was EU bureaucrats as up till 2016 all deals within the eu have been ALL eu bureaucrats, some of them have been brits of course now we are on the opposite side instead of being in the club and involved with the internal horse trading..

Got to laugh at the 200 billion figures how many times have remoaners dished thec350 million figure but of course the 200 billion is the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and they call leave voters gullible and thick"

Spelling and grammar are not everyone's forte, and mocking people who are poor at both could be classed as a form of bullying.

As someone has already pointed out, poor grammar and spelling are enough in themselves to diminish the author's point, so please, instead of attacking a poster personally, attack their message instead.

I'm not the grammar nazi, and I don't claim that my spelling and grammar are perfect. I don't really care if there is a typo, as I'm simply pointing something out, and not trying to be a smartarse.

As someone has already pointed out, poor grammar and spelling are enough in themselves to diminish the author's point, so please, instead of attacking a poster personally, attack their message instead.

Hoping there is a typo in there and it should be ”are not”...

I'm not the grammar nazi, and I don't claim that my spelling and grammar are perfect. I don't really care if there is a typo, as I'm simply pointing something out, and not trying to be a smartarse. "

Yes I know that - but you start by saying grammar and spelling would not be called out - it's bullying... But you then go on to say that bad spelling as grammar are enough to diminish the posters point .

Surely that should be ”bad spelling and grammer are not enough to diminish the posters point ”?

Nothing has changed since 2016. A large part of the leave movement was always based on meaningless, and misleading catchphrases.

"We want our country back"

"Believe in Britain"

"Get brexit done"

"Easiest deal on history"

Johnson isn't a fool. He needs a deal, and the price of no deal is simply too high to pay. No trade deal with the EU or the US and then the WTO trade rules is far from sunlit uplands Lets add in the economic fallout from Covid and the reputational damage for the UK from reneging on an international treaty. I really think this is just setting the stage to sell the deal he will have to accept.

This is an interesting point of view.

I don't think Johnson cares about a deal. He's achieved what he wanted "getting brexit done". Anything else is superfluous to him.

From the little I have read on it I gather its leaving without an all encompassing trade deal and having several small deals/ agreements in place instead. Basically most trade would be wto but some may not and agreements on things like keeping airplanes flying to and from Europe would be put in place

Johnson's negotiation tactic is to point the revolver at his own head. Threatening to collapse the talks for the benefit of the British fishing industry (0.12% of UK GDP is laughable. If Johnson is serious in his threats the outcome for the UK is very negative. John Hume (RIP) was known for saying 'you can't eat a flag'. Johnson might sell the nationalist brexit dream to England, but the reality will be very ugly. A no deal outcome will leave sides with a bloody nose, but the UK will have a concussion as well.

I still think he is trying to appear resolute and a tough negotiator to the EU and for a domestic audience but he needs a deal and pursuing a no deal is political and economic suicide.

Yes agreed. It makes perfect sense to stick to something the EU have been telling us is not possible. They have been consistent since the start. It doesn’t prevent the tories to tell us that it’s the EU’s fault if we are where we are.

There are only two options. Either we stick to the unicorns and it’s no deal or we compromise.

No deal would be bad economically. It would be perfect politically. It could be the end of the Tory party for 25 years at least. Bring it on.

If Boris believes. I'm not sure he does believe actually. He's an opportunist, who decided that backing leave would be more beneficial to Boris. All his tough guy posturing has achieved is to paint himself into a corner. He needs a deal or it's economic suicide and the fallout could well bring down his government, but if he backs down to the EU any further he loses face with his party and his days as leader are numbered. Hobson's choice really, but he's brought it on himself.

Of course he could go for no deal and then resign in February citing long Covid. Wander off into the sunset with all the money he and his pals have siphoned off in tenders to shell companies and live happily ever after, whilst we all deal with the consequences.

I wouldn't put it past him.

"Are we suggesting he would go down the no deal route simply because he dosn't care ?

Surely by standing firm in what he believes does by its very nature prove he is committed and does care .

I wouldn't put it past him."

I think there is a big faction of the Tory party behind him (those erg cranks)

There is probally a powerful lobby in the background aswell who have wanted a no deal all along.

Standing firm by the deal he originally voted against, then voted for, then changed at the last moment?

But seriously, why would he care? He's got nothing much to win or lose either way.

He has much to lose if he gives way to the eu - Party and electorate.

Unless the eu come back to the table we will be on Australia trade terms with the eu...

What does he have to lose?

I thought Australia didn't have a trade deal with the eu?

They don't have a full on trade deal. Instead they have a series of small deals and agreements from the bits I read

So..once again he is talking out of his arse?

I read they were in the process of renegotiating with the eu."

Again only read a little on this. They are negotiating a full trade deal or at least in the process. This would of course replace the lots of small deals.

There is a draft legal text for the deal - most of which there is agreement .

the 2 points where there is no agreement:

Fishing and state aid rules.

So, WTO rules then? Why don't we just call it an Afghan or Cuban style trade deal? That's what it will be.

The UK still wants to keep access to the single european energy market. That is worth an estimated maximum of £200 Billion to the UK energy sector. That is Macron's leverage.

If you really believe its about fish they would go for the same agreement which has been offered as Norway. Its about control the eu has to try and keep control of the uk in some way to stop other states wanting to leave too.Yes the uk fishing industry was worth a lot more to the uk economy before we joined and can be again.

Our veto was useless, every successive government has pretty much just continually signed us up to the next treaty that came along without ever giving two fucks about what Joe public thought or wanted, this seems to be the same for all the countries in the EU, there citizens seem to have no input in policy or direction that the EU is going in at all just the same as we didn’t.

I agree with you about propaganda, although in this day and age it really is quite easy to find information from multiple sources and not just one mouth piece if you are willing to look. I also think better education about what the EU is, what it does and what it stands for should have been something that was addressed a long time ago, but I am sorry I still believe in a democracy and I believe people should have a right to have a say, not just in the UK but all the other EU nations too.

I agree with all that.

Democracy fails when propaganda rules to the point that people no longer have an informed choice.

The simple fact is, people didn't and don't look up for themselves.

As was mentioned on another thread. Other EU countries teach children at school what the EU is, how it functions and what it does. This combats, to a degree, the kind of misinformation we have here.

I think a mix of reasons, but we did not use one of the three versions of veto that were open to us to opt out of joining the single currency.

The EU is a not a media organisation. Anti eu propaganda has been part of the British press as well as large parts of the UK political body. It was a convenient whipping boy and bogey man when required to keep xenophobia ticking over or dodge government responsibility. The very fact that it faced a ceaseless stream of propaganda from one it's own members was unacceptable. Hungary and Poland are now following the trail set by the UK.

The UK is like the dog that caught the car, it doesn't know what to do next. A rash manifesto promise, a referendum in a country that doesn't know how to use referendums. Then followed by four years of dithering self delusional bluster, hubris and incompetence on an scale never seen before.

Then followed by four years of dithering self delusional bluster, hubris and incompetence on an scale never seen before.yes four years wasted by people who could not accept a democratic vote.

Um, the conservatives have been in power since 2010 They are on their third leader since 2016. They rejected May's withdrawal agreement 3 times only to accept a worse deal from Johnson who suspended parliament to avoid scrutiny of the deal he is now trying to renege on. Just want to make sure we're on the same planet here.

"Our veto was useless, every successive government has pretty much just continually signed us up to the next treaty that came along without ever giving two fucks about what Joe public thought or wanted, this seems to be the same for all the countries in the EU, there citizens seem to have no input in policy or direction that the EU is going in at all just the same as we didn’t.

Ha! Look what happens when you get shit loads of anti-EU propaganda and then let Joe public have a say!

Brexit.

Case closed. Ha.

It was inevitable that eventually people who voted against Brexit, would be responsible for Brexit.

Someone put this to me the other day I was not sure its correct or possible. At the end of this year we end transition but agree to follow the rules as before like freedom of movement, fishing ect ect. Crucially we would not be a paying member anymore but still have full access to the single market. So in a way it will be like before the referendum but without the price tag. I know it would not please everyone as its not full control and we would no longer be represented at the table. If in the future the rules changed that made things really bad for the uk we could just stop following the rules and go to WTO

I assumed it must be wrong but could not think why apart from not hearing it mentioned with all that's gone on in the last few years. Originally thought he meant a Norway style deal but that does not stack up either. Closest I found was Switzerland. Anyway good to know its not just me

"This is doing my head in.....

The tories know that a little spin and a little rebranding, they can tell anyone that band-aid will cover a stab wound.

Problem is that on the other side they like to spin and tell everyone that a bandage is not going to stop a minor cut.

It’s very tiring, and people are just no longer engaging because they are tired.

They have brow beaten everyone to the point where we are just happy that we will accept less.
