Steady, they can’t admit they were wrong because they didn’t know why they voted in the first place

"How does it feel to know you were wrong?"

I'd argue we don't know anything now, that we didn't know before the referendum.

Likely most people haven't changed their opinions without any new information.

Before the referendum were we told Brexit might result in the troubles returning to N. Ire? And were we told we might end up with a de facto border round Kent? Were we told no deal was gonna be a real option?

Didn't we always know that?

Forget "project fear", the Daily Mail and other comics.

I'm thinking about what international economists said. Which was that it would be a lengthy and complex process that the UK would not come out on top of.

Yes.

No.

Yes.

So fair enough, we didn't specifically know about the restrictions of commercial vehicles going into Kent. But it's hardly a suprise. We knew it would add huge logistical issues and red tape to transporting goods to and from the EU.

I’d settle for any increase in GDP above the average across the EU, no jobs lost plus no loss of rights, as we were promised.

A very hard question to answer with the current virus but the uk had an increase in jobs after we left when it was predicted by remainers we would lose 1/2 a million so i still dont think it was a mistake.

yes and we were told that 1/2 million jobs would go if we dared to vote leave which has been totally debunked . I think its impossible to say anything either way about jobs since we left as the virus hit a month or so later which has fucked everything.

It’s not impossible to say anything either way about jobs - it’s statistical proof that jobs and economic activity were both down In December-February - prior to lockdown. Some industries were already in recession.

A quote from about us on that website:

"For Remoaners obsessed with conspiracy theories, we should mention that we have funded 90% of the costs ourselves, with the balance coming from small, individual public donations that have helped us to keep going somehow. None of the donors have so far have been named Vladimir. Sorry to disappoint Remainers who can't deal with facts and prefer to try to attack us personally, but the money is infinitessimally small compared to the funding of Remain campaigns. We suggest Remainers address the facts rather than imaginary conspiracy theories. "

Well now I'm convinced they're factual and not at all biased.

If you believed it was going to be an easy deal with the eu thats up to you the eu has historically took years to do anything the mercosur deal has took them 20 years and still not ratified and doesnt look like it will be due to French and Irish farmers.15 years for canada. Are we now paying 9 billion into the eu are we tied to paying into their coronavirus recovery fund? no.

Now your turn.A very hard question to answer with the current virus but the uk had an increase in jobs after we left when it was predicted by remainers we would lose 1/2 a million so i still dont think it was a mistake.

Who said we would lose 1/2 million jobs? And we only technically left this year . Do you know the figures for the job increases since the referendum? The remain campaign blimmy mate you have a short memory

I took no notice of those figures, as I am sure you took no notice of some of the leave campaigns claims. Back to the employment increases, do you have the numbers to back up that claim Try thishttps://facts4eu.org/news/2019_aug_project_fear_debunked,2#

Did you check the dates on that piece? Because those jobs were gained while we were an EU member, sparky. yes and we were told that 1/2 million jobs would go if we dared to vote leave which has been totally debunked . I think its impossible to say anything either way about jobs since we left as the virus hit a month or so later which has fucked everything.

Just to clarify, when did we technically leave the EU? And how many jobs have we gained since "

Just to clarify i have already said its impossible to say either way as the virus hit just over a month after we left.

Exactly, so let’s concentrate on the leave campaigns claims, which one will be proven correct first? The easy great deal? £ 350 million extra to invest in the country? If you believed it was going to be an easy deal with the eu thats up to you the eu has historically took years to do anything the mercosur deal has took them 20 years and still not ratified and doesnt look like it will be due to French and Irish farmers.15 years for canada. Are we now paying 9 billion into the eu are we tied to paying into their coronavirus recovery fund? no. "

So you admit that vote leave’s claims were nonsense whilst remain’s have to be taken as gospel?

"How does it feel to know you were wrong?

I'd argue we don't know anything now, that we didn't know before the referendum.

Likely most people haven't changed their opinions without any new information."

I know my company is going to be paying millions extra for customs costs and already some hauliers are saying they don’t want to come to the U.K. after December. Some have already been told in NL they don’t have enough permits so can’t come.

I also know we are moving production business out of the U.K.

But yes you keep thinking we all know nothing and nothing has changed!,

I also know I haven’t seen one benefit yet. I won’t hold my breath.

Erm we haven’t actually left yet guys

The fun starts on January the 1st. That’s when the jobs if they were going will start to go. Not overnight just gradual as business moves on from the shower that is the UK at the minute.

This date is also the reason I believe the EU can take us to court over the NI deal because until then we are bound by EU law.

Legally we’ve left. We are still bound by regs until the end of the year but we’re not a member and would have to apply to rejoin.

Yes just read it i notice you conveniently the 1st bullet point off your post. The UK employment rate was estimated at a joint record high of 76.5%, 0.4 percentage points higher than a year earlier and 0.3 percentage points up on the previous quarter.so it seem you have found proof that employment is up after leaving thanks for the link.

One thing people keep missing.

We have to adapt and do customs border checks etc etc all at cost as we’ve put the borders up.

The 27 countries of the EU don’t have to deal with us. They can chose the easy life and buy elsewhere.

No, we left and are in the agreed transition period. We obey all the rules and have no say, ironically brexiters gave us the status that Farage reckons we’ve held since 1973

"How does it feel to know you were wrong? We are not wrong you will see

Out of interest, Theoretically how many jobs lost, or what sort of economic impact would it take before you admitted it was a mistake? I could say the same how many jobs would you need created and how much of a rise in GDP after leaving for to admit you were wrong?

I’d settle for any increase above the average across the EU.

And how many jobs have we gained since Just to clarify i have already said its impossible to say either way as the virus hit just over a month after we left.

So you’re ignoring the ONS figures for Dec-Feb them?Ive not seen them i have been looking at government figures which only go on 3 months figures nov-jan was a rise of 271,000 as i said after that figures are skewered because of the virus.

You’ve not seen them? I posted the link.

Ah. Your reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit is it?

Read the whole thing. so you doubting your source now? dont like that bit which says employment is up

So employment was up whilst also being 0.1 point down?

Ok sunshine. "

use your head of course it can be new people coming to the jobs market so you can have a rise in both bloody hell mate its not rocket science but thanks for proving my point much appreciated .

So you accept that Dec-feb unemployment was up and economic activity down as stated in the ONS figures?

Great stuff. Glad we cleared that up.

Now if you’ll admit your error in the whole ‘after the vote/after we leave’ thing that’d be great too.

Have you heard of something called the transition period? I mean I know that you’d like not to have anything to do with the EU but until the end of this year, nothing has changed effectively. Apart from in your head. But the EU doesn’t care much about what happens in your head or your wishful thinking.

If we have already left why do we not have customs on our borders ? Only being part of the EU allows no border checks!!

No I haven’t but I also know for a fact red bull doesn’t give you wings even though it says on their cans it does!

The law means we are part of Europe until midnight on the 31st of December and whilst it is called a transition the only thing that has change is that we now don’t have a say until that date.

Then we leave the EU as a member! It’s facts I’m telling you not marketing material that you’re telling me.

It's plain and clear which countries are member states.

27 countries and the UK is not one of them. It even has a section stating the UK left on the 31st January 2020.

But if you insist the UK is still a member state it maybe a good idea to contact the EU yourself and tell them they are incorrect.!

Do you understand basic law

The EU have signed as the U.K. an agreement for the U.K. to leave . Which was agreed ratified on the 1st January 2020.

That “process” is not complete until the 31st of December 2020.

If you sign a contract that has a start date of next week the contract starts next week not this week or in two months but next week. You can tell every one it’s all agreed and signed but doesn’t come into effect until next week . It’s not that hard to understand .

Today you can freely travel in Europe

On the first of January 2021 you cannot.

Today I can send a truck across the channel without any need for customs checks

On the 1st if January 2021 I need customs paperwork as we will not be in the EU .

Are you getting this?

From the 1st January 2021 WTO rules are likely to be in place . Until the 1st of January we have free trade with Europe .

What the fuck don’t you understand about the fact it doesn’t come into effect until the 1st of January 2021 ??

"Who is in the EU and who is not.

https://europa.eu/european-union/about-eu/countries_en#the-27-member-countries-of-the-eu

Have you heard of something called the transition period? I mean I know that you’d like not to have anything to do with the EU but until the end of this year, nothing has changed effectively. Apart from in your head. But the EU doesn’t care much about what happens in your head or your wishful thinking.

Actually it's in your head thats the problem. You can't even admit the EU itself states we are not in the EU.

According to the EU, the UK is in the other European countries list.

If we have already left why do we not have customs on our borders ? Only being part of the EU allows no border checks!!

Are you just being awkward or do you not actually understand a basic law of contract?

Have you bothered to look at the EU website?

What list do they have the UK under?

No I haven’t but I also know for a fact red bull doesn’t give you wings even though it says on their cans it does!

The law means we are part of Europe until midnight on the 31st of December and whilst it is called a transition the only thing that has change is that we now don’t have a say until that date.

Then we leave the EU as a member! It’s facts I’m telling you not marketing material that you’re telling me.

You’re making yourself look stupid please stop!

Would you mind posting a link to show we are still a member state to clear up this confusion. I am looking at the EU website that clearly states the uk left the EU at end of January this year. Thank you in advance

Read my above post please hopefully that’s understandable "

The bit I don't understand is its different to what the EU say

If you can't be bothered to look at the actually EU website you are the one making yourself look stupid.

As said before.

Please post a link which states the UK is still a member state of the EU?

Also can you please confirm how many MEP's the UK currently has at the European Parliament?"

Do you believe we are in a transition period or do you not??

However hard I try, their posts confirm what the cliché is: brexiters are really uneducated, deluded, brainwashed and live in a parallel universe. Have you looked at the EU website yet?

Seriously it's a very simple thing to do. It clearly states who is currently a member state of the EU.

Ok, let’s say we are no longer a member state of the EU, we left in Dec ? We have had 10 months of ‘freedom,’ what has changed in the time? "

So you now agree we left though might be an idea to have another read as it was not Dec we left

If you can't be bothered to look at the actually EU website you are the one making yourself look stupid.

As said before.

Please post a link which states the UK is still a member state of the EU?

Also can you please confirm how many MEP's the UK currently has at the European Parliament?

Do you believe we are in a transition period or do you not??

The transition period does not mean we are a member state of the EU.

So if we’ve left and our membership is over why are we still able to freely travel? Simple question

Your belligerent refusal to accept facts over a website clearly show how ignorant our country is becoming.

You are showing why the sun was so successful in the leave campaign.

You know I’m right with facts that the rules don’t change until the 31st yet refuse to admit it.

I’m curious to know when a website overrules a law..

As said before.

Please post a link which states the UK is still a member state of the EU?

Also can you please confirm how many MEP's the UK currently has at the European Parliament?

Do you believe we are in a transition period or do you not??

The transition period does not mean we are a member state of the EU.

So if we’ve left and our membership is over why are we still able to freely travel? Simple question

I can answer it for you if you’re struggling .. because we haven’t completed the process of leaving.. It’s a process that is not complete until the 31st December

Have you looked at the EU website yet?

Seriously it's a very simple thing to do. It clearly states who is currently a member state of the EU.

So you refuse to believe the official EU website?"

Do we still pay into the EU?

If you can't be bothered to look at the actually EU website you are the one making yourself look stupid.

OK let’s clarify it for you by using the EU website.

Quote from the withdrawal agreement

Read paragraph 2

I.INTRODUCTION

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (‘United Kingdom’ or ‘UK’) left the European Union (‘EU’) and the European Atomic Energy Community (‘Euratom’) – hereafter referred together as ‘Union’ – on 1 February 2020. The Withdrawal Agreement 1 concluded between the Union and the United Kingdom entered into force on that date, securing the United Kingdom’s orderly departure, and providing legal certainty in important areas, including citizens’ rights, the financial settlement and avoiding a hard border on the island of Ireland (see Box in part III).

As a third country, the United Kingdom no longer participates in the Union’s decision-making. It is not represented in the EU institutions, EU agencies, offices or other Union bodies.

THIS BIT HERE

However, in accordance with the Withdrawal Agreement, Union law continues to apply to and in the United Kingdom for a ‘transition period’ lasting until 31 December 2020.

So paragraph one we can’t make decisions but Paragraph 2 we are still bound by the EU law.

The reason the EU have put us on notice for the law breaking bill is that the EU law applies going forward on that case even after we have left. We are bound by what we signed at the time and they will come knocking whenever they want.

I included the whole quote as didn’t want to appear to cheat so it’s there on purpose.

Thought I’d try with two more analogies to get my point across.

Say you’re a tenant in an apartment with an ongoing rent but decide to leave and you have a three month notice period.

You send the landlord your notice therefore “terminating“ your agreement. You then start your withdrawal agreement of three months whereby if you try not paying your rent the landlord will take you to court or if the flat gets vandalised you are responsible. Yes you’ve terminated your agreement but you are still bound by your previous agreement as a tenant and therefore it stays in place until you vacate after the three months. You are still landlord and tenant whatever you want to call it.

Another is when you get a divorce. The judge rules yes you’re divorced. Pronounced as a divorce in court. Stamp and off you go with your decree Nisi in hand. Celebrate in the pub if you like. That decree triggers .... yes your withdrawal agreement.

Try getting married before your decree absolute comes through. You are still part of your previous marriage until that document comes through.

After this I will give in and we will have to agree to disagree. I’ve got a weekend away with the wife and that’s getting my attention.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Indeed the UK isn't classed as an EU Member State now but we are still bound by EU law until midnight going into 1st January 2021 and any breach of EU regs before 1st January 2021 is still valid.

Nice to see you now realise the uk has left the EU. I think the confusion is due to the fact that in legal terms the uk has left and can be verified easily even on the EU site. Another verification is the EU refused ages ago to start trade negotiations until the uk had left and those negotiations are going on right now. In accordance with the EU a member state once left the union enters a transition period where in practical terms nothing much changes until the end of that period. This does not mean we are still members. At the end of this period is when practical changes occur. Officially there are now 27 member States (was 28) because the uk has legally left (unless of course another country has left and kept it very quiet)

If you can't be bothered to look at the actually EU website you are the one making yourself look stupid.

So you refuse to believe the official EU website?

Yes websites are useful wh!

Officially there are now 27 member States (was 28) because the uk has legally left (unless of course another country has left and kept it very quiet)"

Good explanation of the facts. Quite ironic a thread accusing people of getting things wrong is full of incorrect information
