If Trump loses, what will he do?

At this point, Trump's surely likely to lose. What will he do then?

Will he actually concede and leave?

Will he try and mire the election in the courts, in the hope of getting a decision to go his way there instead?

Will he flat out refuse to leave?

I’m not convinced he’s going to lose.

If the Democrats had put forward a better candidate then game over but Biden is a very old guy and I think Americans are nervous not of his views but being lead by such a frail looking president.

I think Trump will claim fraud and violence will happen in the right wing states but hopefully the leading politicians on both sides will realise how bad a fight will be for the nation, so will not let it happen.

I don't think Trump will lose.

I don't see any reason why someone who voted for him last time, would vote for him again.

There's a lot of buster in the media about what he'll do. I suspect he will just leave, but be very angry, confused and insecure about it.

Unfortunately the world has become about ‘sides’ more than people thinking logically. Every election in every country you get people voting against their best interests because they’ve picked a side and won’t change.

That’s partly down to stupidity and partly down to how easy it now is to seek out like minded people by whom we can have our views confirmed.

Unfortunately this can often lead to people taking more extreme positions because they make the assumption that the ‘evidence’ they find is true. We only need to look at the rise of anti-vaxxers and QAnon nuts to see where that leads.

Sadly it’s often more important to people to ‘be right’ than it is to get to the right answer these days.

Trump and Barr will likely take it to the courts to stop Biden winning 270 votes in the electoral college, the next step in their plan would be a contingent election. Briefly this means the president and vice president would be voted by the House of Representatives (congress) and The Senate.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility to think Trump will abuse his office. He might not win the election but he could stop Biden from winning sufficient electoral college votes to be be declared winner.

I think, if it goes on numbers, Trump will simply lose.

But he seeems to be trying to nobble the postal votes. And he's been talking up how corrupt and unfair this election is. Paving the way for taking this all to court. And the Republicans have control there...

He's not confirmed he will go peacefully and has also been pushing the scare stories of voter fraud, which seems a foundation for claiming later that it's a wrong result.

He will bluster and be obstructive, as he likes to be. I could imagine him refusing to go, whilst reviews are carried out until the January changeover

The more intriguing question is what happens if Covid knocks Trump off his feet - who would replace him on the republican side? Mike Pence is not presidential material and I doubt they will be able to keep it within the Trump family , so perhaps Kanye will be put up for it.....after all, he is just a bit bi-polar unlike the psychopathic Don ??

I saw trump debate with Biden, it was pathetic, and childish. How did this man ever become president? It was just the juvenile trump shouting his mouth off with no substance. Surely the Americans will come to their senses and send him back to reality TV. Unbelievable and so rude and boorish, what a child. Biden can't be any worse, surely.

because for some reason she was seen as the worst of two options.....

he was the outsider and she was sean as the status quo!!!

this time he is the "incumbant" but he is still trying to pretend he is the outsider to which people ask "well what have you done over the last 4 other than to try and destroy the legacy of your predecessor?

what will happen if trump loses.... honestly...

first of all... he will never concede (but that might be taken out of his hands!) if it is close enough in certain states he will try and get mail in ballots thrown out! and try to cling on...

if its a big margin.... i think he tries to flees the country!

If he loses, they should send him to North Korea. He’ll be able to experience what communism really is as opposed to what Biden says.

We should also send our tories there too when they tell us that Corbyn or the Labour party are hard left or marxist in order to scare the sheep.

Trump will bounce back hugely now thanks to his time in hospital- he is now saying that he thinks he’s immune - he will now campaign on a huge wave of messiah- like worship. He will say to his followers Look at me I conquered covid !!!

If I was Biden I would be worried now - I can see Trump getting a second term then saying to Mike Pence thanks for everything but bugger off I’m going to keep it in the family and then he announces Ivanka as VP

That all sounds perfectly plausible - as long as he gets past the tenth day of Covid without any other ill effects!

Emperor Don and his Trumpettes? The end of democracy in the USA? I imagine that nothing is really impossible or off the table in Trump’s world - a modern day nero!

My favourite laconic phrase works perfectly with the topic title.

‘If’

IF he does lose I don’t think he’ll concede. He’s convinced of the righteousness of his mission to ‘drain the swamp’ and will see it as an establishment plot to eliminate him. But ‘if’ is a big word in this context. I’m not convinced he will lose. Academic Agent has an excellent video on his channel currently about why you should take the opinion polls with a pinch of salt. Recommended viewing.

Agreed. The last 5 years have turned me from a positive realist into a cynic.

I have a feeling Trump will win, very few polls are reliable in the states and fuck knows both sides are playing misinformation games - predominantly Trump.

If enough young people are energised to be practical and vote Biden, then trump will likely loose, but I've lost faith in the practicality of Student politics.

It's looking like a good turn out of the vote so far (watching the early voting numbers).

I wouldn't be so sure right now it will be close and could go one way or another. Another round of wide spread riots or a high turn out to vote could swing it either way.

you also have to factor in its 2 white privileged old men there and people do i want to go out to vote and risk caching covid at the Poling stations for either of them old farts.

From the huge crowds seen turning out for in person voting already, I'm not sure that that's really going to be a problem.

It's true that polling is very tight in the swing states though, so it would be foolish to write off Trump altogether.

Some Republican controlled state legislatures are openly discussing ignore the results of the vote if it goes against them and decraing for Trump anyway, as apparently there is nothing in the constitution to say they can't. My prediction is that if the vote is in any way close, shitler will refuse to leave office, at that point it will come down to the Republican party, if they support his actions, and given thier recent history there's nothing to suggest that they won't, things will get very bleak indeed

the "theory" was to try and drag out any litigation till january 9th and try to ram that thru republican state "houses" when the "electors" have to give their votes... it can't happen in pennsylvania, wisconsin or michigan because they all have democratic governors that would stop that from happening...

but yes.... you can see trump trting to claim victory if it close...

but the more i think about it... if it gets to the stage where he sees the writing on the wall, he will either try to self pardon, or use the pardon power as a negoiation tool to leave, or flee the country.... i honestly still think he will!
