Voter deterrence

A story recently came out about how Trump's 2016 campaign targeted 3.5 million black voters and attempted to deter them from voting.

It's not illegal, but this tactic feels creepy and wrong for a supposed democracy. It also may have won him the presidency.

This is a very scary revelation.

The details these guys have on us all is incredible. They know everything about you including what you look at online and what spend your money on.

They are using this information to target tailored advertising to persuade you to vote. It is also being used to persuade black voters not to vote again in this election.

Our thoughts are being manipulated and looking at the last election It appears Cummings and Co. are using the same underhand tactics.

This is seriously undermining our democracy . Obama came out yesterday with a video as he’s been jolted to say something, it’s that shocking.

Channel 4 has found the secret data of the Republican Party. Collated by Cambridge Analytica and the likes of Facebook.

We are all being mislead. No I’m not a conspiracy theorist this is fact revealed this week . It’s truly scary.

It sounds like they are going back to basics with the next one though.

Simply getting gangs of white supremacists to turn up and intimidate voters.

You don't need your new-fangled interwebs for that.

Instead of looking at the US, which is not our problem, think how it happens over here instead?

In the UK its been an ongoing problem, people don’t bother to vote at council elections or general election, what is being done over here to stop voter apathy?

Should voting be compulsory ? It is in some countries.

If we can stop people from going out due to covid we can certainly get people voting. People generally listen if its law,

They would have to give you the option to vote for no one.

This story isn't about natually-occuring voter apathy, though. It's much creepier and more manipulative. It's about engineered voter apathy. Literally undermining democracy.

Agreed. But the difference is important : people who were classified as being potentially able to be dissuaded from voting, but for the Democrats, were actively targeted with anti Hilary ads to persuade them NOT to vote when they otherwise proba ly would have done.

It swing hundreds of local wards Republican because of it which if those people had voted maybe wouldn't have happened.

They(C4) interviewed Murtagh, the Rep head of communications. All he kept repeating was that they tried to persuade people TO vote..

I did a post a while ago asking if politics was taught at school.

From an early age are not really encouraged to take a great interest in politics.

Apart from Brexit, apathy is widespread amongst the electorate.

How deliberate this is,I suppose, guess on your level of cynicism.

Looking back Brexit got amassive amount of coverage possibly, because coming out benefitted a number of many powerful people.
