PMQs: what's the point?

Do you watch 'em? Do you not? Do you love them? Or hate them? Do you really not care? Do you think they achieve anything or not?

I agree, especially when the current PM refuses to answer any of the questions

Haven't watched for years, is it still the same forum, i.e. a back-bencher asks the PM a previously submitted question ("What's two plus two?") and the PM answers ("Four", in case you're wondering).

The PM is then hit with a supplementary, has no idea what's coming (his researchers try to discover which particular bug is up the back-bencher's arse) and has to think on his feet and come up with a convincing reply.

Maggie was brilliant, Blair admits he was terrified at first but gradually came to enjoy it, since then I get the impression PMQ has no value.

Voters don't care anyway what actually goes on in Parliament...

Don’t know and don’t care. Else they’d actually research their vote before placing it.

Agree with 999 the PM just goes on a rant, he cant help himself waffling distraction.

For once with labour, Starmer ticks all the boxes, methodically exposing Boris

I would be surprised if he didn't..he is an ex barrister.. the sort of slippery customers whose job it is to sell to the jury...

In this case it's Boris being cross examined and the jury he is trying to persuade are us

I think PMQs might matter, if indirectly. (Even though I get the impression most people don't watch or care about PMQs.)

If an MP or PM says something especially dumb or false at PMQs, it can get picked up and played on tv/online. Or it can be quoted in papers. Then it can have an impact on the electorate.

Also, I get the impression MPs place more importance on PMQs than us. So if a PM does especially badly at PMQs, anger and distrust can build among that party's MPs. This could contributte to the PM being booted out. On the flip side, if a PM does especially well at PMQs, a party's MPs are more likely to support them.

I think there's very real value in it, Johnson is exposed as a charlatan who is too lazy to do his homework on a weekly basis. Starmer looks better and better every time he faces Johnson across the dispatch box.

It's important to see the PM face difficult questions as you can be damn sure he won't go on any TV programme where they ask him anything tougher than what his favourite colour is.

Sounds fun, but you're missing out on the comedy as Johnson blusters and flails his way through each PMQ.

I rather enjoy watching Boris deny something he's just said in front of the nation. Keir just shakes his head.

HMA Hugh Elliott has recorded a video message for UK Nationals living in Spain. Speaking about the continuing negotiations on the future relationship between the UK and the EU, the Ambassador said: “I want to reassure you that your rights as UK nationals living in Spain are already protected under the Withdrawal Agreement between the UK and the EU."

That's VERY reassuring!!! It's like having a safety net.... made of nitroglycerin...

I think Boris is capable of telling the truth on occasion. For instance he said that he did not want to literally hug Scotts. Quite likely since he has only just had a Scottish farmer call the cops on him for trespassing...

Been watching PMQ's lately and I find it very strange. Leader of the opposition asks the Pm a question, PM answers something different. At the final question PM goes on a rant about the opposition leader's qualities, again totally unrelated to the question. So all in all a complete waste of time.

"Been watching PMQ's lately and I find it very strange. Leader of the opposition asks the Pm a question, PM answers something different. At the final question PM goes on a rant about the opposition leader's qualities, again totally unrelated to the question. So all in all a complete waste of time.

You forgot him banging his hand on the table and saying we need to get brexit done when being asked a question completely unrelated to Brexit.

Yes but we still need Brexit done

Yep we need the simpletons to remember what they voted for.

The simpletons outnumbered the sensible.. ?

Stop the simples voting Lionel..

That's the new democracy..

Except I said nothing of the sort.

Valiant effort though.

So you just wanted to insult Brexit people by calling them Simple?

Please elaborate..

Ha ha touched a nerve there.

I take it back.it was said in jest.

Everyone who voted for Brexit did it for the most rational of reasons and their intelligence can in mo way be questioned.

I humbly apologise.

PMQs don’t change elections results, that’s a fact. However they can prove that some PMs are clearly incompetent, out of their depth, clueless, unable to think on their feet and prepared to answer anything in order to avoid scrutiny and face the music. We have the perfect illustration of this at the moment. If the people who put the current bullshitter in charge are pleased with his performances at the dispatch box, they’re clearly as shameful and useless as the muppet who is (on paper) running the country.
