'The red, white and blue "rebranding" will cost about £900,000, No 10 said.'

Downing Street said it represented "value for money" and that all of the work was being done in the UK.'

'The Prime Minister’s spokesman said of the decision to repaint the jet from its standard grey:

“The £900,000 cost incorporates the cost of creating a design that will promote the UK around the world without compromising the plane’s vital military role. Voyager can better represent the UK around the world with national branding. All of the work has been done in the UK.”'

Considering the controversy surrounding it, you would think that someone would have said that several hundred thousand of that had been paid for a service of that were the case.

Nobody has. Except on this forum.

Intriguingly his MPs appear to believe the same thing:

'Boris Johnson was accused by his own MPs of “lurching from one PR disaster to another” after it emerged he has spent almost £1 million having his official'

This is a written question and the answer from the UK Parliament website:

'Voyager Aircraft: Repairs and Maintenance:Written question - 60776

Asked by Daniel Zeichner(Cambridge)Asked on: 17 June 2020

Ministry of DefenceVoyager Aircraft: Repairs and Maintenance 60776

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the cost to the public purse is of the repainting of the RAF Voyager plane used by senior members of the Government.

Answered by: Jeremy Quin

Answered on: 22 June 2020

The total forecast cost for completing the repaint of the RAF Voyager VIP aircraft (including related costs) is approximately £900,000. The project will be carried out by Marshall Aerospace Defence Group (MADG) in Cambridge.'

So short of an invoice, it seems to be the position of the UK Government that the plane cost £900,000 to rebrand and repaint, not to service. Unless "related costs" of painting include full maintenance.

Perhaps there is nothing better to spend £900,000 on.

I will now watch people claim something else with complete certainty

It’s obvious the MAD group would say it was a related cost . ( not the Cambridge MAD though )

The rebranding would not have been just the external paintjob.

You can bet the internal livery will have been changed as well and aircraft seats ect aint cheap

I take it your also against hs2 then?

HS2 is being built to benefit commuters, businesses etc , Can you give me the tangible benefits of painting the plane? Bloody hell mate you dont know much about business and presentation.Would you turn up for a job in a pair of jeans and a t shirt rather than a suit? Perception plays a big part of it do you think you will be looked apon the same driving a ford escort as a Bentley? Advertising pays thats why its such big business, do you think companies like coca cola and mc donalds need to spend millions on ads every year they are household names? they do because it works.

What are you talking about? Do you honestly think that the EU or any other nation give a shit about what plane Boris and his team arrive in? How can that possible influence them? And what is the point in having a new shiny plane when Boris looks like a tramp???who,s talking about the eu they are done, yeah i do think countries give a shit impression is everything and nothing impresses like a big union flag.

I have said It before but it’s like putting a turd in a shiny new box, Well you ask what the point was i gave you a reason you might not agree with it but thats your prerogative but i suspect the people who do business on this site will understand."

Do business? We are talking about international trade deals between countries using experienced negotiators who won’t be influenced by the transport they use to get there .I am guessing your no where near that level?

The UK use to have the Royal yacht Britannia which was decommissioned in 1997.

Between the years of 1991 and 1995 £3bn in trade was generate for the UK.

Not bad at all and bear in mind the yacht was used for 44 years in total so the amount of trade generated would have been a tidy sum.

It's a bit of a stretch to say that because trade missions held drinks and nibbles on brittania that it's presence had anything to do with such deals, most deals are negotiated months even years before sign off etc..

"'The red, white and blue "rebranding" will cost about £900,000, No 10 said.'

I have said It before but it’s like putting a turd in a shiny new box, Well you ask what the point was i gave you a reason you might not agree with it but thats your prerogative but i suspect the people who do business on this site will understand.

Do business? We are talking about international trade deals between countries using experienced negotiators who won’t be influenced by the transport they use to get there .I am guessing your no where near that level? "

Nope but all relevant i wouldnt turn up for a meeting in jeans and trainers either.
