David Frost - fit for the job?

David Frost, who wasn't really getting anywhere with the UK's Brexit negotiations, has been appointed the UK's national security adviser.

In the Commons, today, Theresa May, who appointed his predecessor, Sir Mark Sedwill, asked Michael Gove how Mr Frost's appointment squared with remarks he (Gove) had made in a recent speech on civil service reform on the need to "promote people with proven expertise".

Her question, "Why is the new national security adviser a political appointee with no proven expertise in national security?", unsurprisingly, was not answered.

Unless of course, the answer to "Why?", in this case, is that the PM can do whatever he likes.

Certainly, he has a track record of appointing people entirely unsuited for their jobs; Hancock, Raab, Patel, Williamson, etc.

So, why shouldn't the national security adviser be as out of his depth as the rest of the Cabinet?

Not that it matters what any of us think; but it seems that, for such an important job, you'd appoint someone with a firm grasp of what's involved - rather than a "Yes man". Wouldn't you?

Competence doesn’t really matter in this gvt. As long as you can pander to Cummings, lie and say that Britain is world beating at everything, you’re in. The rest is not important.

I heard he was doing brilliantly with the negotiations. I dunno how, all he has done is sat there and not really said anything and just tried to row back on stuff we had agreed to

Not qualified and no experience, yet that's what the blather about remaking the Civil Service is supposed to be about.

He's one of the boys. He will not be presenting the government with anything except the government's existing opinion.

I can't work out whether you're on a wind-up or you're genuinely half a mile down the rabbit hole. It doesn't matter how much evidence is presented to you of Johnson's bigotry, his cabinet's lies and corruption, general incompetence or elitist cuntery. You just pop up and say it's not true, with no evidence to back up your point. You're like Baldrick after Blackadder tells him to deny everything.

"No it isn't" "No he isn't" "No they didn't"

It's only a matter of time before you start denying having anything to do with the demise of a delicious, plump breasted pigeon.

It must be a wind up, somebody can’t honestly be that deluded

I'm not sure that I understand what this means.

Are you saying that having an unqualified political appointee as head of national security not providing impartial information has happened many times before?

When did this FACT occur last?

Is it okay that this was ever the case let alone now?
