"SKS shamed the PM and the Tory Government at PMQ’s in enacting a massive U turn on surcharges for NHS workers. Who needs to be in power when you can change tory policy by highlighting BJ’s stupidity? Tories better recognise that SKS is going to decimate their leadership. No more letting them off the hook like the failure Corbyn was." It's a result - but you do need to be in power if you want to make policies of your own. When Boris came up with the £900M figure, it was obvious he had forgotten all about the £350M/week figure on the bus; or, worse, he thought everyone else had. It will be interesting to see where SKS will focus his next attack. Matt Hancock's incompetence and lying? Even the Speaker had a go at him for being a twat.

It appears that the issue was discussed amongst various Conservative MPs and action taken to comply with their wishes. This simply proves that Boris is a listener and respects the opinions of his party members. If circumstances change there is no reason as to why you cannot change your opinion. It is difficult to see how Kier Starmer would have any influence on the decision .

To stand at the despatch box and not even have the correct figures is incompetence..

What it shows is he did not have the common sense to assess within his party just how toxic and repugnant the intention he held at pmqs yesterday actually was.. Or was it arrogance? Only when the prospect of his own party going public in shaming him did he give it thought.. He praised rightly the NHS when the staff saved his life weeks ago and then yesterday he spat in their faces.. That's his truth and lack of decency and any morality..

"He does what is right by his MP,s and it's a u turn he doesn't and he is a dictator just can't win. " If he's only doing it for that reason it's pretty damming.. At least it's getting done as not to have would be shameful..

"A good leader will always listen to those around them.I could see this being a thread if he had refused to but he has done the right thing yet people still want to criticize which makes me think it has nothing to do with policies just the person." Who do you think made him ‘change his mind ‘ ? He did the right thing just at the wrong time and for the wrong reasons .

"A good leader will always listen to those around them.I could see this being a thread if he had refused to but he has done the right thing yet people still want to criticize which makes me think it has nothing to do with policies just the person." Yet a great leader will fully consult with all sides before shooting their mouth off. The problem with BJ is his mouth opens without engaging his brain. Which is unforgivable. The case against BJ being a fit leader continues apace.

What happened a PMQ’s was a lesson in being schooled by a superior opponent. He could have easily announced the surcharge being dropped because of the backlash, but he demonstrated the cuntish behaviour built in all tory politicians. The veil is dropping, and lots of people are realising that this man can’t lead, he is being led.

It is about the person, he praised the people he then turned his back upon possibly after he was swayed by the likes of Cummings, patel and Raab as I genuinely think he was honest in his words post coming out of icu.. So is it that he is being played by those who want to steer him away from decently treating the NHS and care staff some of whom have given their lives in this crisis or is he two faced and his words of praise were yet again more lies from him..? Lack of judgement, empathy, foresight..?

"It is difficult to see how Kier Starmer would have any influence on the decision." It's difficult for you to see, due to your blind loyalty to the right-wing establishment. You're an unfailingly pitiful apologist for their shortcomings - collective and individual. It's why so many people in these forums contradict and dismiss your opinion. Like Boris, you are opposed.

" It is difficult to see how Kier Starmer would have any influence on the decision ." Oh come on. If that was the case why even get to the stage where SKS could be given credit for the u-turn? Why not pre-empt that by saying “we’ve decided to do the decent thing...”. SKS had every influence. It’s at least heartening to see someone at the despatch box who has the measure of Johnson and his corrupt cabal of crooks and careerists and won’t let them off the hook as Corbyn did.

"So regardless of politics and on the basis of the decent thing to do. As these overseas NHS workers are benifiting all of the UK is everyone happy to pay a little extra to cover the estimated £90M shortfall for the NHS?" Yes. As long as the likes of Amazon and Facebook are paying their share too. When this is over I would increase tax to 22/23p at the bottom end, 40p should increase to 45p and 50p at the top. I would also increase the tax free allowance to £14k.

As these overseas NHS workers are benifiting all of the UK is everyone happy to pay a little extra to cover the estimated £90M shortfall for the NHS?" Of course we all should. Because without them what state would the NHS be in? That would be more than a £90M shortfall!

If you did it because you were incompetent and were forced to in order to follow the public mood then you are a twat who did the right thing. BoJo was schooled. I, personally, do not think that not charging NHS staff the fee is the right thing to do. Of you have a law and there is a good reason for it you apply it uniformly. Police shouldn't get a rebate for the tax that goes on policing. An NHS surcharge should be means tested. A consultant or senior engineer can absolutely afford to pay. For a cleaner or carer it's a huge part of their income. After, say, dive years of paying tax the surcharge stops. They are here and they are contributing.
