I've posted a thread here back in March saying that we will have the highest death rate in Europe as the Gov reaction is slow and irresponsible. I've been humiliated by some "smart arses" on here, that it wont happen and the gov knows exactly what they're doing.

We've passed Italy now.... just sayin....

If you feel humiliated then tough it out. Statistics can be bent and manipulated to say whatever you like.

In tests.... 8 out of 10 cats said their cats preferred whiskas. How the fuck did they arrive at that statistic ?

The Isle of Wight has only recorded 15 deaths so that’s probably the safest island in Europe to go live on so we should probably live there ... the council there obviously has done the best job of controlling the virus

Whether we are ahead of or just behind Italy or anyone else doesnt matter....it isnt a contest....

30,000 deaths DO matter.

That's the fact we need to focus on...not scoring points, taking sides or saying "told you so".

"We also have a smaller land area and higher population density than Italy."

Ireland has an even smaller land area, 40% of the population within the capital metropolitan area (20% for the UK), household size is larger in Ireland but the real standout is the per capita death rate in the UK that is over 3 times the number of deaths in the UK. There were 5 deaths per 100,000 people in Ireland by 13 April, and 17 deaths per 100,000 in the UK. I should point out that UK weren't counting deaths in care homes at this stage.

The theory is darker skin reduces absorption of sunlight and vit d production in northern states, in sunnier climes more sunlight equals more absorption, also it could be more active immune systems helping in poorer countries, or less diabetes and weight problems.

I don't think we are in a competion more a crisis caused by a virus

Every figure regardless of size is a tragedy.

On another thread I asked about the Italian health service one of the very best. I asked why did it get overwhelmed causing more deaths with lower numbers than the UK when the NHS did not get close to capacity.

I was told about the problem in the north of Italy, doctor's not being listened to and that they had bad luck

When I dared to say its not often the NHS fairs better than Italian health service I was then told its because they have a right wing government

A better measure of comparing deaths by countries is to adopt the approach taken by Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter a risk expert from Cambridge University ,is to look at excess deaths. This means the number of extra deaths compared to what might normally be expected in a certain period of time.

Analysis by the Financial Times shows Italy's excess deaths are 90 % above average, Belgiums are 60 % and Spain's are 51 %. with England and Wales on 37 %.

I'm confused

Have we got the highest death toll yet or are other countries lying about theirs?

Funny though when we were lagging behind italy and Spain etc people seemed to accept their figures then,?

Talk about cherry picking your sources - Spiegelhalter has been vigorously challenged by his peers - to quote a letter to the press from three of them - "Where is the careful statistical modelling underpinning the piece? Only with such analysis can comparisons be made so as to compare the effectiveness of strategies that different countries take. Yes, there are inconsistencies, underreporting and heterogeneity within countries, but the policies adopted by different countries show very large differences in effects that would seem to dwarf such worries. Is Spiegelhalter suggesting comparisons cannot be made now or at any time? "

Back on APril 22 SPiegelhalter was endorsing a figure of 41,000 excess deaths at that point in the UK - not his analysis, but one undetrtaken by the FT. He's in danger of turnign into mr Rentaquote, and of doing the opposite of wat his job title requires him to do.

The numbers thing is a deflection on how disgraceful Westminster’s reaction has been. Whatever the figures, the UK is still not doing NEARLY enough either to contain the virus or to protect the population.

It’s very likely this now is the even more infectious strain, meaning back t the drawing board for vaccines, so unless Westminster, aka as Dominic Cummings but ultimately Boris Johnson, performs SO much better, tens of thousands more people will die in the UK.

And.... to be dispassionate- the UK economy is fucked.

So you are saying that the vaccine wont work due to the virus mutating ( it should help even with a mutation but see your point )and the economy is fucked due to lockdown so what can the government do to stop more deaths ?

A he'll of a lot better, firstly if they hadn't have cut the health service their so very proud of now to the bone , acted on advice about stockpiling PPE if a pandemic arrives, relying on the armed forces to transport the PPE to hospitals when there is an army of truckers out there who know there way from A to B, and don't forget van drivers so they could get to more remote places, then maybe just maybe the gov might pulled their fingers out and actually ordered some PPE so save a lot of lives in care homes, setting an example for the rest of us not to go visiting relatives' 100 miles away while on lockdown and essential travel only,.. And BORIS comes out of hospital, first thing he does is an interview saying how gratefull he is to the NHS staff that saved his life, for fuck safe do me a favour if your so fucking gratefull then then don't drive away to the country side to checkers , stay and help to put your parties squandering of billions of pounds helping those banker wankers golden bailout and handshakes instead of reacting to to a health service that you steadily declined hoping to privatise as much of it as possible, there's a lot more to say but I'm off to run my hand under cold water to cool it and me down x
