PPE....and ventilators

If companies can reconfigure their products to make ventilators, why are old ladies making aprons and scrubs from old bedding?

They aren't as no hospital in the country would use PPE made from totally inappropriate materials with no QC control.

People are trying to help. I very much doubt they will be used but that’s not the point. Ventilators are technical, PPE is not. Scrubs are standard fare but disposable gowns and masks need particular material- can it not be sourced?

It depends, surgical gowns have to be made of a very specific material, FFP3 masks have to contain the correct filters, so only certain companies can produce these things and even then, they have to be able to get the raw materials. The problem is also one of scale. The logistics train is already stretched so you want to be picking up tens of thousands each time a truck is dispatched. Dozens of small collections of tens or even a few hundred are just not feasible.

A friend of mine is making scrubs from fabric supplied and cut by Mulberry - she has also made scrubs bags and caps to help out in this emergency.

Just as well then the tumble dryers aren’t made in U.K.

The ventilators we are taking delivery of now and a further 1,500 a week from early May are U.K. manufactured

Not ventilators but CPAC machines. Total different thing. Ventilators are machines that does the breathing for the patient. The CPAC machine is a positive pressure face mask. Very much simpler. Dyson ventilator is needed now by the UK goverment. Not sure it passed the tests. Prehaps someone can tell me why.

hi, yeah I know there is a difference between the two, if you have a look at McLaren's website all the information about the ventilators they have made in partnership with others, including Rolls Royce, it also states that the government has ordered 10000 units, so I am guessing that's why the Dyson units are not needed, I am sure there are plenty of other countries that are in desperate need of them, including our European neighbours who are struggling to get them.

Penlon Prima ESO2 Received MHRA approval last week . Producing a few hundred in the next couple of weeks and then rolled out to the others in the group and producing 1500 a week from May
