Boris a minute after the result has issued a letter inviting the opposition to join them in talks on tackling the current situation,a right final kick in the nuts for outgoing corbyn.

He has promised to tackle anti-semitism "root and branch". Does that mean kicking out 'momentum'? as that seems to be where the problem lies deepest. Good luck with that one but hope for the sake of the party that he can.

The problem with centrist politics is acting like you care yet shafting the public in the fine print. It's that grey area that Tories love.

Also fair point. But that leaves me with two rhetorical questions.

What are people who want real change to do, but to vote for smaller parties. I know this does have an impact. IE in recent times UKIP pulled the Tories further to the right. But we're not talking about any of the smaller parties getting close to power.

Why are so many people happy with their lot in life and not willing to vote for anything but the status quo. IE the two main parties.

me personally I would rather vote for a party with a chance in the race other wise to me it’s a waseted vote and the smaller parties don’t appeal to me iv always voted labour only once changed and that was because of brexit I’m just glad Corbyn as gone maybe able to think about labour again would of preferred nandy tho sick to death of London boys running the country lol

I wouldn't worry. Got a cheek to be talking about years and decades when this country has been stuck in a rut for years and the last decade due to this government's incompetence and power hungry in-fighting.

"They might stand more chance of winning an election. But then they won't have any interesting ideas and nothing will change. Just like New Labour under Blair. They were so shit they were basically Tories."

Exactly this. Blair moved the left so far to the right, that it pushed the Tories even further to the right, therefore shifting the center ground to "Tory-lite"; which is what New Labour was.

That has become the standard if you want to gain power in a UK GE. You have to be right wing - because that's how 45% of England wants it ; Scotland, Wales and N.I. are of almost no relevance, in voting terms, to determining the outcome.

Having a knight in charge of the Labour Party is a good illustration of how far away from its origins it now is.

If he is ever to actually become PM, he'll do what Blair did and tell the Tory public he's one of them, they need not fear him.

He'll have no choice.

"Ed Milliband and David Lammy now on the Labour front bench!

Interesting!

Happy for Lammy.

Lammys a total cockend "

He is for abstaining on his vote in regards to the 2014 immigration act but has sought retribution since and has been quite vocal. His heart's in the right place for the best part. A good MP.

I like him.

I'm assuming Labour are our to attract the middle ground though? Not the more right leaning people who are never going to vote labour no matter what.

Lammy's put his foot it in a few times (like many politicians), but has actually done a lot of good work and is very smart. The Lammy Review has been very influential.

Personally I'm only even vaguely interested in Labour if they're able to offer some meaningful change.

As soon as the party moves away from the centre, the establishment and media go into full on propaganda mode, which is extremely effective and makes labour unelectable. Basically mirroring politics stateside.

So I don't really care about the fortunes of Labour. Seems like they will put in a long hard fight, and the best case scenario is that things will be slightly less shit than now.
