We have been sat in our front garden an people have said am within quater of you an really there sat in car on opposite side of road from us its a bit weird the way people can track you down to nerly an exact location

Especially a problem for people who live in the country, and are the only house nearby.

We always turn-off Who's Near before setting off home, but it would be nice if we didn't have to do that.

I think anyone who cares exactly how far away you are is probably a stalker, so I'd be happy to see the minimum distance increased to something like 2 miles.

At least some one understands what we mean

You also have the option to hide your profile so it'd work in your favour

Why should we do that when as a saftey issue from stalkers an weirdos the 2 mile didtance should be built into the site so if u are 2 miles or under it will auto say 2 miles

"Not sure how they track you down ?"

Where is live. My nearest neighbour is 1/2 mile away, it would not be to hard to narrow it down, with who's near

It is a safety concern, when you can be very accurately pinpointed

It would be a good feature improvement, to let users pick how accurate they'd like their location to be depicted - say, changing from the current option, to be shown as within 2 miles, as the finest granularity permitted. Users could potentially just pick the smallest distance they're comfortable with

Exactly its quite easy for a user to narrow it down to an almost exact location it is a saftey concern like the message above says should be able to choose your own distance or the site owners change it to a minimum ov 2 miles

But you can do that by changing the postcode so it's even further from your actual location

Users might want to still be viewed from their actual positions just with less precision given to viewers checking in who's near

I understand what OP means

I had someone messaging Me, while I was in a fairly rural area, he was 8 miles away, I said I wasn't interested.

An hour or so later he was quarter mile away, and started naming houses near me asking which one I was staying in.

I switched my location off and blocked them but it spooked me.

It is a tiny percent that ruin it for the many.

I get what you mean OP.

Not so much of an issue if you live in a city.

But for us that don't, it won't take much to suss out where or who you are.

For me I don't think it is to much of an issue, but would be unnerving for the ladies.

As there are quite a lot of creeps and stalky types on here.

Would be nice to have an option that allows you to keep your location vague

It's especially an issue as the days get shorter and you become easier to get pinpointed, from your artificial lights, that help you to standout, in desolate countryside. I don't communicate with those who have pinpointed my likely location. If you have fields, they may even be using your own land at night, to track you down accurately. They might peer to through your windows, even

I think the idea of having a user selected level of accuracy, such as either Current accuracy or 2.5 miles accuracy minimum, would be a simple thing to change, as and when you wish to.
