Hi really like the who's near but the list of perilous are randomly located all over the uk. I would expect it to have the nearest at the top.

'near me' not necessarily always accurate. Just checked with another member who was allegedly within a mile....nope, more like 12 miles away!

have found that if you leave the functon ON but then go on line on PC then mobile users will see you as Near to where the last phone positon was reported to Fab

Doesn't appear to make any difference when I swap between phone, laptop or desk top.

I've been informed that it all comes down to the phone and where the GPS signal picks you up at. Sometimes this is not overly accurate.

When you switch on "Mobile Who's Near", you should get the line at the bottom:

We got your location OK: 55.863801, -3.756552

If you copy the digits and search on google maps, you can check whether the location is accurate. If the location that your phone is returning is inaccurate, there is little that Fab can do!!!

But if you were last on your phone at point x then next time you logged on was at a pc via desktop site then mobile users will see you as now on line and at point x rather than where you are at yr pc

seeing as military use gps to guide missiles and airlines use it to land aircraft on runways... It is quite accurate

Well, (according to using the google check on location) if my phone and the site are using GPS signals to identify where I am then I'm afraid I must be in someones elses house in a different village!!....bugger, best ring Mr BB and tell him we've moved! lol

around walsall, wolves, cannock

your phone possibly last used the gps bit properly as you drove past that point. As it hasnt been told any different (by properly connecting again) it is using its last know location... I think lol

Whenever we are at home it always seems to say we are 12 miles away! It's the same for FB too, always says I am near.????? when I am actually at home.

Think it is more to do with the fact we are in a valley surrounded by trees and therefore quite 'hidden'

Have you looked at the gps recorded position on yr phone? As statded above, not all phones update in real time (some check after user prompt, some at fixed intervals) , they also work better when outside in clear view of a few satellites

People are talking about GPS... It doesn't use GPS unless

a) You have GPS on your phone

And

b) You have it turned on

It use the data from your phone based on mobile signal.

For example

You're logged on to mast 1 with a fairly strong signal, mast 2 can also see you, mast 3 knows where you are. Using this info, the mobile network knows roughly where you are.

Now I know where I am, so who's near lol

Yes I have GPS on my phone and yes I have it switched on, it's always switched on until I travel abroad.

However, it would appear, as with sat nav signal, it does not locate me as being at home. Mind you, we haven't got the luxury of teceiving signal for DAB radios either, nor a strong digital TV signal, without satellite TV we'd get 15 chanels and 4 of those are +1 lol x

If you're saying that your SatNav, can't correctly locate you at home, due to the surrounding terrain, then it's unlikely that your phone will either. They need to get a clear line of sight to several satellites to function correctly, whereas Satellite TV only needs one. Do your phone and SatNav both show your position accurately when in an open area?

Why do you turn GPS off when abroad?

I turn my phone off for the majority of the time when abroad! I go to get away from the hustle and bustle of life here... if anyone needs me urgently they always have the hotel contact details!
