I never said anything about leaving it running by accident, I suggested that the best stalking time would be when most people are at home and using the site - I know that I use the mobile site while at home a lot through sheer convenience. I'm sure many other people do too. And no, you don't have to a maths geological scientist (what?) anyone over the age of about 14 who actually paid attention in class should be able to do this. The easiest solution from the site's side would be instead of having people as being within 0-1 miles, 2-3 miles, 4-6 miles etc. would be to have more vague catagories: Quite Close, Close, Nearby, Not too far etc... And is you do rightly point out, it's an opt-in function. | |||

Of course the road network will complicate things a bit, but the same basic principle will apply. As long as the person isn't moving you'll be fine. So if I were to do this I'd do it late at night when most people will be at home. But not too late before they log off for the night.

Yes I'm being perfectly serious. It's basic GCSE maths.
You are at point (1), you know that someone is exactly 2 miles away from you, but don't know which direction. You draw a 2 mile circle on a map with the centre at point (1).
You then travel until you see the person tick back to the 3-5 mile catagory. You know they are now 3 miles away. This is point (2).
You draw a 2nd circle on your map, this time with a range of 3 miles, centred on point (2). The places where the 2 circles cross over are potential locations - there will be two of them.
Now turn roughly back on yourself, so you are travelling back the way you came but heading off to one side - not the clearest instruction, but it's been a long day and I'm not sure how to phrase it better.
At some point you'll see the range tick back to the 0-2 mile range. Mark this third point on your map as point (3). Draw yet another circle on the map, another 2 mile one.
If you've done this right, the 3rd circle will only intersect the other two in one place. You know know exactly where the person is.
