Wakefield Social is back with new organisers this coming Saturday 1st June.

List is now closed to single males unless I have met you previously.

Still open to couples and single females and is set to be a good one.

Entry is £5pp to cover costs and we will be having a dj, party games and a free raffle.

If it's a public venue how can you stop people just walking in?

We have sole use of the function room upstairs but I'm informed that the regulars have said they'll choose to drink elsewhere to give us privacy and have complete access of the bar.

I can't understand what the big issue is here.

The issue is first you said it was a private venue, then it was closed for refurbishment to public, now it's that the regulars will drink elsewhere.

That function room is small and stuffy, its gonna be warm and the locals will want to come for a nosey which means no privacy or discretion for people who are paying in.

I think you'll find that the people who go out of their way to organise and put together these socials (wherever they are being held) to do for OUR sake. Usually, and this isn't said lightly, there is usually room hire, cleaning of the room afterwards (even if the room is free of charge), nibbles and/or snacks, raffle prizes, dj expenses etc. Maybe Wet n Wild, you ought to try and organise one on your "free" and "no admittance charges theory......

Well done Cherry and thank you for all your hard work ;o)

Used to do it regularly, ask around. Wasn't a business to me, did it for peoples enjoyment.

If it's a private event fair enough but shouldn't be a charge for a public house that any Tom,Dick or Harry to turn upto for a nosey.

"The charge for social was clearly stated in the opening of other forum thread so why there's an issue now I really can't understand why you put your name down.

Secondly the function room upstairs is privately hired out to us so for people who don't want to be seen with 'swingers' can hide up there. A public house cannot officially give out the title of 'private party' due to licensing laws however I am assured by the NEW OWNERS that it will be just us. Can't divulge anymore than that. So no there won't be people just wandering in for a nosey.

Thirdly, and sorry if this sounds rude or disrespectful, but if this 'free wakey social' was so successful and great then why aren't you still hosting them? Probably because of the class of people who attended them made it so that you were banned from holding them.

You are welcome to attend but please don't moan about it.

This is my way of doing it so if you don't like it......... "

I stopped doing the Wakey Social way before it ended so not sure quite what you mean, as for slagging the class of people that attended off.....well done that's 3/4 of your guest list.

We know how big the pub is upstairs and downstairs...no one will want to stay upstairs when the bar, dancefloor, toilets and smoking area are downstairs...upstairs will hold about 30 people comfortably.

It holds 50 and part of the refurbishment is to put a small bar up there too.

This is supposed to be a nice social event for meet new potential playmates however this silliness is actually making some individuals look very undesirable.

I'm looking forward to it and certainly gonna have a great time so whoever is on the guest list wants to actually embrace it and enjoy themselves is welcome. Any miserable ones may as well stay at home

But you can't stop people walking in because it's a public house and the music is gonna attract walk ins...we know this...and you've only got the use of a tiny function room...we might pop in for a beer or 2 and see some old friends

Abso-bloody-lutely.

Any regulars that push their luck and come along after being told what type of event it is are clearly closet swingers and will be getting charged an entrance fee.

As the person who has hired the venue for a party I reserve the right to refuse someone entry and don't think I don't because I will

Why? Always like to see who is going.

Can’t see the difference if it is published or not.

Didn’t see a green eyed monster, someone who might be a tad peeved, don’t understand the reason, and the posts might be a little negative. However we are who we are.

Just wish someone with experience would do a Hudds one.

Sick of travelling 15 miles.

The socials are everything but a " swingers party " , it's about socialising and chatting to people with similar interests and having a friendly night, as with any event you can't please everyone all of the time. Some people don't want to attend private events as they aren't sure it's for them , having an open event gives those unsure the excuse " we just popped to a pub and unbeknown to us it was a swinging social " without the fear of being judged .

I agree it’s not easy but then again it’s not easy to spot a fellow swinger in a pub full of people, at least if it’s a private party you know everyone is there for the same thing and not just out for a quite drink with there wife, not all women would be happy with another lady chatting to there husbands or boyfriends

"I agree it’s not easy but then again it’s not easy to spot a fellow swinger in a pub full of people, at least if it’s a private party you know everyone is there for the same thing and not just out for a quite drink with there wife, not all women would be happy with another lady chatting to there husbands or boyfriends

Can't beat a spot of guess the kinky buggers "

I think I had it slapped on my forehead last night

Wasn’t we all bystanders not into the lifestyle once..

Been to a number of socials in pubs, not one of them didn’t have regulars about.

Go into a club, there will be people off the street.

I struggle to see the problem.

Yes I suspect there might have been some to perv.

Not as many as there is on fab thought.

Next one issue a coloured sticker. Or something at the sign in and any outsiders will be non the wiser perhaps then you just have to guess the name from those in the know. Just a suggestion ???

I've had coloured wristbands etc before but nobody wanted to wear them.

I doubt there'll be a next time, I'll just stick to hosting the Halifax social

That is a nice little pub for a free social as you cnt really get away from the public with a small function room upstairs. So really its ideal for a social for free people shouldn't need nibbles or a raffle in there unlike such as the Barnsley social where its a private function room with a bar you can charge and have raffles and nibbles. But well done to New Beginnings for organizing the social even tho we didn't go as we couldn't post in here until tonight

Was a amazing night and definitely seemed like everyone loved it. Think everyone could see amount of hard work and planning Cheryl had done at this social. Does make me laugh people moan and complain about a £5 to pay. I’d love to see these people organise a social themselves to be fair. Got to be perfectly honest I didn’t know the expense of sorting a social out or the hard work that goes into doing them. Maybe people could appreciate the people that do organise these socials. I for one love the events and always have great nights there

Not quite sure how you even know where the social was held because venue details are meant to be kept confidential and only sent out to people on the guest list.

From the posts we have read in here about it its the same place where it used to be. As we have been to it a fair few times and we never gave any details out of where it was anyway we dnt do that as we have been to lots of socials aswell as run our own before.

Everyone is so quick to have an opinion and I have never experienced such negativity for what should be a fun night.

I am never organising a social in Wakefield again, I'll stick to my own neck of the woods as people tend to be more polite and appreciative of my efforts.

I just don't know what gives people the right to say 'you should do it like this,' or 'you don't need food and free raffle etc'. I will run my events how I feel fit and how I want to run them. The people who appreciate my efforts will come along and enjoy themselves, the ones that don't should keep their opinions to themselves. I'm getting quite annoyed now that this is all still going on..... I wouldn't go to someone's dinner party for Instance and start dictating who they should or shouldn't allow in their house, or how to host their evening!!!!

WOW sorry for speaking we did say well done to you for doing it but if you take that as having a go at you then fine. People are allowed in a open forum we was only adding some insight into the venue you held it at. Good night

Yes I know you said well done and I thank you for that, but it was on the back of you telling me I didn't need nibbles or free raffle and function room is too small! The pub and the function room has been done out and most certainly is large enough to hold around 50 people but people chose not to use it and put themselves amongst members of the public.

It might be a public forum but such comments (not just from you) are the equivalent of posting negative comments on someone's Facebook status. I've seriously been in tears over the last few days over it all. I should have just cancelled it
