Next Sheffield pub social questions

The last pub social was great fun and I'm starting to plan the next one, possibly for March. But I have a few questions for you all:

Do you want to be able to dance?

How do you feel if it's not city centre? This would mean those coming by public transport would have to travel an extra leg. I'm currently looking at bigger venues that are reachable by tram so the connection from the bus station or train station is straightforward. It would also mean we might get a deal on hotel rooms near the venue.

Input please - if anyone has venue suggestions please pm them to me, don't post here.

"Hi can I be informed of these socials please?"

Details will be posted on this forum under the title "Sheffield pub social" and with the date when it's decided.

These socials are open to all with no quotas, the only rule is that you must be on the guestlist to get the venue details. To join the guestlist you will have to post on the thread.

The last one was a really good night in spite of atrocious weather. There was a good mix of couples and singles and though this event is purely social I do know that some had their own after party and others made plans for another time.

A pole might be a bit optimistic, which would be a shame cos I hear Dave has some serious moves.

As I don't dance I don't mind where it is. Just need to be able to book a nearby hotel before they sell out.

Depending on the venue I hope to either get a deal with a local hotel or to pick a cheaper weekend than last time.

Oh and price of beer will be a contributory factor since the most repeated sentence of the night last time was "fuck me, beer's cheap!".

Ok people I need a few opinions.

It's looking like the 22nd of March could be the date (just need to confirm some hospital stuff before I commit to that). As for venue there is a choice:

A busy city centre pub with our own upstairs mezzanine room (so it's not completely closed to the pub downstairs) with our own bar and loos, dancefloor area and dj playing downstairs. We could have food but it would cost 4 quid a head minimum.

Or we have a whole pub on the edge of the city centre with dancefloor area, roof terrace, well stocked juke box and food would be from 2 to 5 quid per head depending on what we opt for.

Both venues have very well priced drinks. If we opted for the whole pub it is a little rundown but very friendly.

Opinions please.

I think a whole pub to ourselves would be the best option.

It would depend on the hotels nearby and the local transport to the further out pub, but apart from that either suits me.

Up for which option?

And the further out pub is actually closer to the station, it's still city centre but it's on a back street. It's a bit shabby by friendly and well priced drinks.

Honestly it wont bother us either way. I liked the venue we had last time, but having the whole pub would be nice. I wont be disappearing early in the night this time as I'll have him with me!

This. Either is fine for me, and if I book a hotel room I won't have to worry about the last train.

Either option is fine and dandy by me.

The last venue was spot on but the idea of shabby chic and a pub to ourselves is very appealing

Anytime in March is also eminently do-able

It's more just plain shabby than shabby-chic... But a pleasant and friendly pub with a huge selection on the jukebox, space to dance and a roof terrace.

Looks like I'll be booking the pub.

And when I checked last night a large, not budget chain hotel had rooms for single occupancy at 35 and double occupancy for 45!

Well shabby still works!

And as the two D's in mine name will be fulfilled by the pub as a venue, colour me a happy camper

Been busy checking out last year's weather for March.

So it looks like the 29th May be the better option. I'll post the full thread when I've got it confirmed with the venue.

Oops. Should have been a small m or perhaps should have used might instead of may.

22 of March last year saw heavy snow on the ground. It had begun to clear by the end of the month. Hopefully we won't get the Siberian weather this year but just in case the social will be the 29th of March.
