Kitty Hawk discovered in Egyptian desert

the good lands, the bad lands, the any where you may want me lands

Anyone else seen these today? An RAF Kitty Hawk reported missing in action with its pilot has been discovered intact landed in the egyptian desert after 70 years. It looks as if the plane was landed by the pilot who then constructed a sun awning from his parachute and removed the radio from the cockpit to await rescue. No trace of the body remains did he just walk off in search of his rescuers? Its amazing that still there are places on our planet where anything or anybody can remain undiscovered or disturbed for 70 years

Read that last night. It was the only decent thing on the Mail Online, but bloody hell, what a fantastic find

According to the report, the 'locals' were starting to steal pieces off it for scrap. Lets hope for once, our government will not piss about and arrange to have is declared a war grave, or something similar, in order that we can recover it without delay to a place of safety where it, along with the memory of the deceased, can be preserved.

Cannot imagine what the aircrew must have went through after crashing and getting out alive then walking through the desert and dying of the heat

It appears that the crew had attempted to get the radio to work, as it was found outside the wreckage along with the batteries

I wonder if the call for help was ever transmitted ?

This bit made me laugh "David Keen, an aviation historian at the RAF Museum, says the pilot broke the first rule of survival in the desert, which is to stay with your plane or vehicle." What was he supposed to do then, sit with the plane and wait 70 years to be rescued?

Lets hope that Cairo let us have it back to put in a museum and document the pilot and history.

Titz Towers, North Notts

I once read a similar story concerning a Liberator bomber that was found in the Libyan desert in the late 50's.

Do you think when they find the pilot he'll give them the story or just interview the plan?
