How long does it take for some ones verification from a meet to come through ? We met a guy , verified him but it hasn't gone on his account so he cant repay the compliment

Instantaneous. If you verified him he should have the green tick on his profile. It's up to him if he displays the verification (i.e your written words) on his profile.
