Ampersand is short hand for: the alphabet runs from A to Z and per se & (and).

Yup, that was actually part of the alphabet, along with a whole host of forgotten letters.

Not all websites can read the obscure emojis.

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

This is taking me back 20 years when I used to teach coding.

& amp; (no space between & and amp) is HTML (HyperText Markup Language) code for the & sign.

The code for other symbols when written in HTML start with &, followed by the code.

near newbridge, wales

Its poorly encoded/decoded browser language that's likely been copy and pasted it should end in a ; not a , which is why it fails.

If you change your profile title & make a mistake, realise & then go back to correct it without clearing the whole thing again, you'll get a load of "amps" appear in the text. Had it happen a couple of times to me.
