I realised earlier that this is probably the first time in my life I've ever felt so connected to so many people. No matter who you are or what you do we're all in this together.

It got me thinking about what makes us feel part of something. Like what makes you feel accepted or the same as others? If you didn't feel that before do you feel it more now? Is community spirit making you feel more included or excluded?

I realise this is a bit vague but I don't really know the right thing to ask, I guess I just leave it open and see what we come up with

I like the way how a common cause brings us people together. The key workers ( I am one too) and volunteers helping to fight the Covid 19 is amazing. I overheard someone thanking a Tesco staff for being there the other day. Made me feel so humble. Thank you if you are one of those people keeping us safe.

Most people are even the idiots, very few truly nasty/evil people in the world, media just distorts. Most idiots are simply reacting as they are scared or misinformed.

You can make some great connections and have a bit of banter

People need others to reach out to and this is a nice community

I'm typically playing games though ha

I feel connection and purpose at the moment, with my community mostly. Had a few frankly heart wrenching moments of feeling national identity recently. Connection and disconnection both.

Yesterday I dropped off some bread for a lady who's shielding. Waved through her front window. It was bittersweet.

I keep looking out my window, I can see loads of houses and it's weird thinking that nearly every one of them will have people in the exact same boat as me.

Talking to my friends and family and reading the comments on here, we're all the same facing this issue.

It's humbling.

My parents dropped off some shopping for me yesterday, we had a wee chat through the window and as they were leaving my neighbour was at her window saying hi. She later texted me saying how good it was just seeing people and I cried because that's exactly how I feel, it was kinda comforting knowing its not just me.

I don't think I want to feel same as others. I prefer to influence positively amongst my friends who struggle.. so they can feed off my energy. I'm not one to ask for help eagerly, I'd rather offer some.. so yes feeling needed makes me feel part of something important, bigger than just me and my challenges. I think its quite common for it to lit up faster in time of crisis. I reached out to someone today I didn't speak in months. Not sure if I would have done so if it wasnt for the current situation. Just makes for a good ice breaker.. and helps put differences behind.

Rambling eh.

I’ve realised that I have a lovely community of genuine friends on here. Ones you can talk to about anything. Be it listening to someone’s problems and reassuring them, putting the world to rights or just taking the pee out of them. That’s what defines togetherness for me.

Checking in virtually with family and friends every day helps and if I can make them smile, laugh is better, than job done.

Laughter is a marvellous tonic

I love a good ramble

And yeah, feeling the same was a bad choice of words. I think I meant more part of the same thing. We all deal with things differently and it's nice how we come together to support each other.

.

I'm in a similar boat to you OP. A lot of my family and loved ones are frontline workers and knowing that others are going through the same worries, dealing with the same (to be expected!) grumpiness helps me feel a lot less alone. Even simple things like a neighbour leaving flowers for others to help themselves to reminds that me that we are all similar and facing this. I've seen and experienced a lot of kindness and compassion this past week which has helped renew my faith in humanity - I'm choosing to focus on that rather than the negative.

And my WhatsApp; whether that's sending instrument photos, daft cooking ones, daily checking in messages or wonderful video calls that make me care even more for someone. I've never felt so connected.

I have seen so many 'little' acts of thoughtfulness and kindness...it all adds up. It's heartwarming to see and be apart of where possible. Restores my faith in people and gives me hope.

I think its shown that even with an initial crazy headless chicken running about scramble we are all mostly decent people that can achieve a goal. But, if there is ever a massively infectious plague that gets out we are equally fucked. No stopping for the supermarket and pasta but get on a boat and paddle far away from everything.
