They come out early and there are no bees around. What am I missing here? Is it because they are bulbs and do not need pollination? Is there something called daffodil honey?

Been out here for 2 months ... just normal for nature! Not all plants require bees ...

Ah. Well that must mean there’s none, if you haven’t seen any

Daffodils do most of their reproduction naturally through bulb division, so they're fairly asexual, hence their low numbers on here.

A quick Google tells me bees don't especially like daffodils, so there you go.

Wake up Toms!

This is serious!

Daffodils are asexual. That is they don't need there pollen taken from one flower and dropped in another flower.

They are asexual and reproduce via their bulbs... which remain dormant in the ground until Spring.

Wild daffodils can be sexual and when pollenated do disperse small black seed but this is not common.

Take it seriously Tom..

Daffodils have lost the need to be pollinated because they are grown from bulbs!

I think thats why Bees have hardly any interest in them x

Nope lol

Honey is made by social honey-making bees to feed the hive & the queen through the winter. Most bee species don't make honey because they are not social bees and don't live in a hive; most bee species are solitary bees.

Solitary bees:

Kind of like a large proportion of the human population at the moment!

It’s more than bees who pollinate anyway. Wasps, flies all help with pollination

That's wise Tom. It's a stressful time for all. The fallout can be watched from afar.......
