I've never actually seen the wisdom of putting a 'silent' feature on a phone. It's a bit like ringing someone you know to be deaf (which begs the question: Why do they have a phone in the first place??)

i have mine on silent when i go to bed, but i always forget to put the sound back on when i get up,.... so it tends to stay on silent haha

Because years ago someone bought me a phone to keep in touch when I am out, and I realised I liked the fact no one could get in touch with me when I am out....so I stick it on silent

my phone was on silent i had a meeting with my daughters nursery and didn't want it to ring or bleep. Forgot to change it back to 'loud'
