I think you have to use common sense and judgement. If they are elderly or have health issues then maybe a visit is not the best bet. A phone call from a loved one is better than nothing.

I probably won’t be visiting my Mum or Granny, unfortunately. Both are high risk and I’m just getting over a severe 3 week long chest infection so my Mum says not to worry about it. Gutted more for my Son and the joy he brings them.

My kids will be with their dad.

Usually I'd see my mum with the kids but we're not this time. They bring her so much joy but we will be ok .. we know the love is there and we can send silly whattsapp vids to eachother x

My mum is 70 but still works a till at Asda. She's in work all day Sunday so I'll be going round tomorrow, albeit staying at a bigger distance than normal (no hugs).

I can't take her out for a meal or even coffee, so we'll be doing something later in the year when things start opening again.

For you all, probably. The main thing government (based on what has been seen to work and not work in other countries) now wants us to do is minimise all but non essential travel and contact with others to stop the acceleration of the spread to other people as hospital beds start filling up quite quickly. We’re trying to slow the spread to give the NHS help in looking after at risk groups who it can be really hard on.

It’s likely safe for you, but it could propagate the spread as any one of you could be carrying it with no symptoms. Then that in turn propagates the onward spread of it etc.

I'd say yes it's fine. So long as you're all well.

We all have to muddle through this as best we can. As much as we are protecting our physical health we must also think of our mental health

No difference between that and going to a busy supermarket.

I've had to move out to keep my parents safeas I moved back in with my parents last year with my 2.5 year old... As I'm still working for the moment it's too risky to see them as my lil one doesn't understand social limitations such as no hugs... Easier ans less stressful to Facetime or something for us x

Moonpig card ordered for my grandmother and I’ll drop presents on her doorstep. Did wonder about taking a chair and sitting out in her garden over 2 metres away and talking through the window.

Lost my Mum, graveyard is a safe place as I’m very rural so I’ll take some flowers. Talk to her about this mad world when I’m there.

Well sorry but some of us still need to work so therefore need petrol in our cars. My mum could die of a heart attack tomorrow or get hit by a car and die (her words, not mine) then how would i feel if i had not seen her for 6months.

I'm not seeing my mum as she's 81. But if she was young and fit then I would definitely see her.

Stupid question but are we not supposed to be going to peoples houses? Like me and my daughter and my sister have been back and forth my mothers house all the time. My mother is 55 and until they closed her place of work last night she’s been at work everyday.

N's mum just turned up at ours yesterday, she's 60 and fit as a fiddle. She's had her card and box of choccies anyway. We dropped things at S's parents today, they were outside in garden and he handed things over. We didn't stop. We're lucky all our parents are very healthy people, even N's 80yo dad who is continuing to work.

OK, I just called on my mum today. I left her a gift on the doorstep, she sat in her porch, I sat on the garden wall 15' away. We had a (loud!) chat and a laugh for half an hour, some neighbours came to their doorsteps too. No contact, all safe, all feel better for having seen each other.

Social distancing doesn't matter how old you are I really don't understand why people are not understanding. Stay away from people who don't live in your house. I'm taking shopping to family and friends tomorrow but I won't want to be in contact with them for more than 15 minutes and I will not be going into there homes. This is from a sensible NHS worker.

It's just another day if people do not follow advice you may not get to see another day in future

None of you are showing symptoms at the moment that doesn't mean you don't have it. You each go and get essentials from a shop and pass to another 5 people. They each go to a shop and pass to another 5 people....get it?

My mum asked me (with my daughter) and my sister to move back home whilst this is going on but it’s easier for us to stay at home. I’m off work, my daughters off school, my mums off work, my sister is still working but can work from home a lot.

I see it as less risk than going to the shops, I’m here in my mothers now for a change of scenery. I’ll be coming back down here tomorrow to cook the dinner.

Just gotta assess what you’re all happy to do. If me or my daughter had symptoms or if my mum did or sister we’d avoid each other.

We did stay away. I didn't go within 15' of her or anyone else, didn't enter a house, touch, etc. We ARE being encouraged to go outside for a walk. Social distancing does not mean hibernation. All govt guidelines were followed here

We didn't say it was fine. We didn't invite my mum down from the bloody Lake District but she came. We didn't physically interact with S's parents. I stayed in the car and they spoke over the garden wall....

Some are saying it's ok. Believe me I don't want to be at work during this if I had the chance to isolate instead of risking my life and my family's I would jump at the chance

We saw my mum today, as my little ones birthday, will face time her tomorrow. Mum’s going to see my nanna tomorrow, but both well. If they weren’t it wouldn’t be happening.

My little ones best friend dropped a birthday present off, didn’t stay, no hugs etc, just wanted to see her, so if nine year olds can understand the need for safety in this time, adults should be able to as well.

Beggars belief... just like our local park today, kids there climbing and playing on the equipment and mums all stood close together gassing. I know schools only closed yesterday, but this isn’t play time.... it’s stay home time !

My lad is coming home tomorrow, but even he gets that we are indoors for the foreseeable, except for me going food shopping or we do our 15 minute walk each day

Keep this behaviour up of visiting each other, acting like ‘I’m fine it doesn’t matter’ because I’m not sick..... it does matter because you could have it already and not be aware.

We are weeks behind Italy, look at their death toll today.... think on !

Yes that’s how we’re doing it. I’m worried it will be Mum’s last Mother’s Day Covid or not. I was running errands of mercy earlier this week as my Mum & Dad aren’t organised for 12 weeks self isolation yet but working on it.

Nope my mums in a care home has lock down and I’m a health worker looking after everyone else’s mum! So I’m moving Mother’s Day to another date! Easter too!

I live with my folkes so will be with them all day and at all times through this, my full support and my self cleanliness is my first concern.

I DO understand the serious part of it but I will carry on working until told otherwise

Ditto, I work in an Iceland store and going in for 5 shifts a week I then come home and stay in but unfortunately until shops shut that's the way it has to be x storm x

Thanks and she does - we spoke this morning and will speak again later - spent half an hour providing tech support so she could spend the Amazon voucher I sent her, so situation normal albeit virtually

We will not visit parents right now. The best gift we can give them is keeping them safe from any possible infection we may unknowingly have.

Mothering Sunday is always bittersweet for me. I love my mum to bits but it’s a very painful day. I’m childless not through choice but through recurrent miscarriages and secondary infertility. Today will be spent quietly at home, pottering in the garden while enjoying some sunshine

For as long as it takes. It’s killing me but she has health problems. I go there every single day and chat at the window and take her what she needs.

I took my mum a card and some flowers and left them on the door step. I went through the laborious but necessary steps to ensure there was nothing on them she could catch!

It alarms me deeply - if we keep tracking Italy what you see happening there now will be happening here in the uk in a couple of weeks!!

I'm in the vulnerable group. Two of my daughters live within walking distance, but one is in self isolation and the other is sole carer for two kids.

Meeting up for mother's day wasn't an option, but so what? I don't need a specific day to know I'm loved by my kids. I got cards, flowers and my weekly phone call.

It will be difficult not physically holding my children and grandchildren, especially those who live in different parts of the country.

I was due to visit my sister in Milan at Christmas but a new job meant I had to postpone til easter, which unfortunately will not happen now.

No one has the perfect answer as the challenges we face we have never experienced, all we can do is follow guidance and be careful. So many questions with so little answers x
