Olympic Flame Ceremony

I'm watching the Olympic Flame ceremony on Sky and the Greeks are about to hand it over to the UK, and it occured to me that it must hurt them to give anything away at the moment.

Apparently, the flame will be lit by the sun's rays and then tour greece for 8 days before boarding a plane and travelling to the UK.

It begs the question: Will they be taking a rather large naked flame on an aircraft breaking all sorts of Aviation Law, or will some snotty-nosed, over made-up, hair scraped back into a Croydon facelift stewardess tell the torchbearer, "You'll have to put that out, Sir."

I have to admit though that it's pretty cool to live in a country where a live broadcast says at the top of the screen: LIVE Olympia, Greece - I'm half expecting Zeus to pop down for a photocall.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

The torch is lit at the Temple of Hera and they usually have the one that is handed over at the ceremony and another flame lit at the temple kept alight just in case the other goes out. And, I do believe they allow them onto the aeroplane but I can't remember what the protocol is.

that's why they use a miners lamp as it is a flame but totally safe in any environment

I think I prefer to think of some stewardess getting all hoity-toity about it.

slightly off topic but think its a little bit cheeky perhaps that nominated torch bearers who have done a lot of good within local communities will have to pay £215 to keep their Olympic torches and its an extra £40 for the stand.

A myth shattered!!

The girl doing the flame ceremony thing just held her arms up to the gods and..... no armpit hair!! I thought Greek women didn't shave! I'm sure they didn't back in the day and I was sooo looking forward to a bit of armpit beaver!

They've just handed the flame over to a Greek Olympiad and I couldn't help thinking, "Run, Forrest, Run!"

little house on the praire

Actually i was really surprised where they actually took the torch. I was very fortunate to have the practice run come by the end of my street. It goes everywhere, even across rutland water on the boat when they could of just gone round. Admittedly the practice one wasnt lit but the other will be.

My daughter as asked to go see it when they let it in the midlands.

Rumor as it that G4S are transporting it around Liverpool with the runner on a treadmill in the back of a armoured van, just to be on the safe side

It'll probably be followed by a gang of paddies trying to build a brick wall round it with nice new block drive leading up to the runner.

Quickly followed by gas, water and electric digging it up to fix faults

My choir is singing as the torch runs through our area. We are still waiting to find out what security checks we have to get through. Getting around London is going to be tricky and I can imagine half the choir not being able to get to where we are supposed to be singing.
