"Before we start it not a crack at the service they are the best and save lives everyday. I have always given to them and as long as they need money always will. On the bbc news site it had about the grounding of the EC135 for safety reasons again great that they so proactive. But in article it mentioned that the Scottish air ambulances are government Tfunded but the British and welsh are done by charity. Spoke to someone from my local air ambulance and it is correct but the lady also mentioned the government charge fuel duty on the helicopters fuel and because of price rises each flight is costing up to £500 more than a few years ago. My boil almost boiled over every government seem to want to shaft everyone but themselves. I used to work for The ambulance service in the west midlands and what you say is spot on. It should be government funded but also they should give them Twin engined helicopters so that they are able to fly at night. This and the funding has and always will be a bone of contention" At the moment there is talk of making one of our three enabled for night flights. I just think they are getting shafted and as such so are we

But I would have thought it to do more with ground conditions than the helicopter

"Scots get a lot that we in England and Wales do not, so seems par for the course, imo. dunno why governments always try to curry favour with such a small country that doesnt even want anything to do with the UK anymore. let them have their FREEDOM!!! and fend for themselves. will soon see all the free stuff they get dissipate, even with NSO money" The Scottish Government fund the Scottish Air Ambulances just like they fund our free prescriptions - the UK Government isn't trying to "curry favour" with our "small country" as you put it!

"We have a really big air ambulance and emergency response vehicle charity here. In fact i think its the biggest local charity as one of the doctors runs it. Its amazing that the doctors that go out on these emergencys do it voluntarily yet the bloody goverment cant fund the helicopters, vehicles and equipment. Luckily for us ours does always have good funding from events and personal donations" And it's great that everyone is so bothered to make sure they stay flying as someone else as said you never know when you might need it. I know a few months back the west Mids air ambulance charity got raided by robbers and money stolen, not sure if they ever got caught. If not sure their god be waiting for a quiet word at some point.

"As a off shoot did you know the ambulance service is not classed as a emergency service by the government but a essential service like gas and electric. I did not know this but found a e petition for it http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/3825" This has been going on for years now and we are waiting for a decision from the fat cats in Brussels...they are tasked to say whether or not the ambo service should be an emergency service. now if they say it is then they will have to bring the pay up in line with other services, but if they say no then all blue lights etc have got to be removed from vehicles

"i would assume the air ambulance is funded in Scotland becasue it is the only useful form of ambulance for the Highlands and Islands. That said i do believe they should be funded as part of the ambulance service in England too, but its not really comparing like with like. In London not long ago i saw a paramedic on a bicycle, a great idea and perfectly suited to the conditions, but no use round here." To be fair be easier to get to highlands than parts of London. Totally agree that the two helicopters and two fixed wings are needed but same could be said of wales and Cornwall. Let's have a equal service for all.
