Every year I spend the summer solstice at a stone circle (be it Stonehenge or Avebury). This year I am up north for the solstice, does anyone know if there are any summer aligned stone circles around Liverpool or in North Wales?

There are the calderstones in Liverpool. Best bet is to check the national trust or english heritage websites

Try stone-circles.org.uk - they're all shown on there on an interactive google map.

Swinside circle is 10 mins drive from arse end of universe n theres castlerigg nr keswick off the top of my head. Swinside very neglected usually neing on private land but the farmer has no probs with visitors so long as u dont worry the sheep (they r for his enjoyment only)

Don't think you can beat Stonehenge and Avebury..was at Avebury two years ago for the solstice, handy having a pub in the middle of the circle and had a great chat with the old boy who owns the antique shop across the road.

I sometimes think that Avebury is a better circle than Stonehenge, it certainly seems a more important site (what with Silbury being so close and the quantity of round and long barrows in the valley) but Stonehenge is just so impressive (and there are loads more hippies there on the day!)

2 Weeks in Ibiza would be far more fun than looking at a pile of stones Georgie.

Me and me mates did winter solstice about 6 years ago...was about -12 degrees. Do agree it is very impressive being able to get up close and touch the stones...they're huuuuge! And we did get to meet a mad who looked like....JESUS

I remember being slightly dissapointed by how small the stones actually were first time I went.

2nd time was much more impresive.

Goin in the middle of winter though? Fuck me! The plain in the middle of December is one COLD place to camp... well done for sticking it.
