Just an observation, I have been in Leeds today and I've been people watching and so many folk are walking around in their own little worlds, the blue-tooth brigade with their little earpiece in remind me of the borg off star trek.

Then there's the big earphone brigade who remind me of the cyborgs from Dr Who and they are the worst because everything is oblivious to them as they can't hear a thing other than the noise they are listening too

Bluetooth headsets are usually in ONE ear, so people can hear other things too....anyway i find the ill fitting bra brigade much more fun to watch

people listening to music...with earphones in both ears I find hard to anticipate when driving somtimes...u simply dont know if they are paying attention or not... they appear to reduce people self preservation instinct.

these are the reason for the populace becoming more ignorant of each other.

when was the last time someone just said good morning to anyone? not someone you know, or that knows you, just someone you meet in the street?

the eye contact thing and the little wink, or nod of the head to acknowledge each others presence?

it just doesnt happen anymore.

just, as you say, in thier own little world of bullshit.

sickens me hole

i think its dangerous for people to wear these devices as it stops them from hearing. One such person thinking he was pete tongue or something with these stupid headphones stepped out in front of my car without a care in the world. i had to swerve to avoid him. he said he didnt hear me ...i said not surprised you fookin prick with those earphones on ....scraped my car having to avoid him which my insurance wont pay out on.

They think they look cool but i think they look like plebs. Nothing cool about being taken for a ride on somebodies bonnet. Next time ile think twice about avoiding.

People do seem more disconnected from their immediate enviroment when using various devices, i've seen countless pedestrians walking around in a daze, way too many motorists texting whilst driving and not as many but still too many cyclists wearing ipod earphones.

Must say here that i do cycle with earphones - BUT - only off road when riding solo on the mountain bike, riding on the road without the advantage of being able to use your ears just seems daft to me.

A small point about 'ipeds' as they've become known, because they are only half listening to the traffic they often step out in front of me as i've been riding along - i have developed a sixth sense as to what they are going to do!

Well if you've ever rode a bus and sat upstairs it's usually full of morons so an ipod comes in very handy to drown out their 'you get me blud's and so on.

Not a fan of those stupid big headphones that all the sheep have got themselves. They are rather like cybermen.

And maybe people keep themselves to themselves these days because they're trying to avoid getting beaten up or whatever in this modern society that seems to have forgotten about respect.
