Joe Marler Alun Wyn Jones penis grab

What’s people’s thoughts on it with regards to punishment, should there be punishment should there not?

Also Gareth Thomas has had to issue and apology for his comment even though I thought it was hilarious.

He said that would never have happened in my day, I’m really upset about it, if it had I’d never have retired

Joe Marler could be facing a suspension from 12 weeks to 208.

I thought it was hilarious and so did the panel in the studio, no one seemed to mind him saying it,people should take it as a joke as it was meant.

And yes he should face a ban would we be happy with some one grabbing us if we didn't give permission, x storm x

"I think wyn needs to get over himself and find his sense of humour."

Nah. If that was a male doing it to a woman there would be uproar!

I've played rugby and get the banter, but on a world stage? What a prat, and it was done to provoke not for laughs.

And that's regardless of team, country or sport.

England were the better team, but they certainly let themselves down in certain areas.

That’s why men and women don’t mix on the pitch in rugby.

It’s just another example of people being outraged for other people because that’s how they think they should act.

I’ve had similar things done to me and I’ve also done similar things.

A simple public apology from marler should be the end of it.

Although I do think he’s a complete prick in general anyway, the stupid interviews and other shit he does offend me far more than the penis stroke.

Having followed rugby for several years now - still happily remember Wal v Eng in 1999 and Craig Quinnell on the charge.

What happened yesterday belonged in the years when rugby was amateur. I like Marler, but it’s all a bit old school.

I’m more concerned about who’s going to follow on from Alun Wyn

Apologies. Didn’t see this and started my own thread on subject. Some strong views about it but ultimately Marler will get a ban for actions no doubt. It was an attempt to incite a reaction - like the Scots with the French. All about getting cards. AWJ is a master at getting under the skin of oppo. Perhaps Marler is master at the foreskin.

Sexual assault is no joke. If this had happened in any other workplace it would be a police matter, but because it happened on the rugby field people should just "have a sense of humour?"

I've no doubt that GT was attempting to lighten the mood in the studio, but his apology was exactly the right thing to do.

If I was in AWJ's position I'd be pushing for the most severe penalty.

This kind of behaviour has no place in any sport.

in any event it’s in the rules .... “A player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship including but not limited to grabbing, twisting or squeezing the genitals”

So perfectly acceptable for him to be cited, and given the very clear evidence, I would expect Marler to receive some kind of punishment.

Thems the rules

So if I got into a fight and happened to grab someone’s dick it’s sexual assault? Nah don’t think so.

Do you know it’s sexual assault to have sex with anyone that has consumed alcohol? Means sexual assaults happen every night and are unreported. It’s all about context.

Its part of the game, always has been and always will be.

Hes done it not as sexual assault like some of you say, hes done it to wind him up.

What happened on the pitch is always to get into your opponent's head and put him of his game, the amount of times this has happened to me or kissing them on their cheek when their already annoyed (like AWJ was) to just simply wind them up more!

Except the game want scrutinised in the way it is nowadays. While those that have played rugby would agree that this sort of thing has “always been part of the fabric of the game”, you’re still a prick if you try and get away with it while 40 cameras, 1 ref, a TMO and 5 million people are watching.

Anyone who has ever been anywhere near a rugby team knows, that is the least of what a rugby player can expect during his career. Furthermore a lot of it will be inflicted by his team mates in bonding rituals. The guy is clearly getting in his head. Plenty worse things happen and go unnoticed. I guy I know (who shall remain nameless) played top level rugby and the stories were outrageous. Things like not wiping after going to the toilet so when they got tackled the opponent got a face full of stink. This whole episode is a minor.

The problem for Market is the view that World Rugby and the EDU take on the image of the game, especially when they look at the falling numbers of players.

Hearing the argument that "it's just part of the game" doesn't hold when parents see that happening and read comments like that. They just decide not to take their children down to the local mini's.

I speak as someone whose club is already seeing numbers drop due to MND and head injury worries, and let's not forget that a bit of buff and high tackles were also "just part of the game" so I hope he does get made an example of.

Can’t imagine if I was involved in rugby as a physio or the girl who gives out oranges. First week I’d be struck off, someone comes for a head injury assessment, I pull their pants down to check their temperature up the arse with my tongue.

Ok not a head injury then or if they’re in massive pain. Maybe if they just had a bit of cramp or wanted a cuddle.

Depends where you're from. "Like" "y'know?" and "man" are regularly chucked on the end of sentences in different parts of England, the same as "Ken?" is up in Scotland.

As for the 'willy grab', you get general banter going on like that in the industry I work in. While limited in actual humour so I tend to find that sort of thing dull, there's generally no offence meant by it. If someone came from a highly religious background then lads would probably know they just weren't part of that craic, but otherwise most tend to be fair game.

I think a lot of the offence taken at the incident is the fact that it was a televised game highly in the public eye, so it's seen as a lot more provoking, nasty and as a bigger insult. As such, Joe can fully expect to receive disciplinary action for it, there's a time and a place.

As far as Gareth Thomas goes though, he shouldn't have to face any backlash whatsoever in my eyes, it was a funny comment that was merely meant to defuse the tension and should be treated as such.

To be fair it was only the last 8 minutes they were down to 13.

England were shocking with their discipline, the brawling, the penis fondling, that rat cunt Farrell shoving Dan Biggar for no reason, the multiple bad tackles, I believe Courtney Lawes is also being cited for a dangerous tackle, also Tuilagi’s tackle on George north.

If Marler is not punished then young people playing rugby will believe that this is acceptable behaviour. It is not.

No it isn't acceptable in any sport. I'm not into rugby, so don't know if this is 'normal' behaviour in this sport, but it was televised for all to see, so yes, wrong.

the tuilagi tackle was to the shoulder rugby is a tough sport and when a 16 stone man is in motion aimed at another to make a tackle the point of contact can not always be controlled, their was no malice in that tackle and as for pushing each other thats the game, England won and AWJs a great rugby player has a small nob these are the facts, lets appreciate a great win by England

I played rugby at school in the late 70's/early 80's (badly, I might add!) and this sort of thing would have "acceptable banter", whether physical or verbal and would have been laughed off back then. Times and values have changed since then. It wouldn't have bothered me then or now, but everyone is different. I feel an apology, a manly slap on the back and a handshake should be sufficient to resolve this.

Yes I agree, I suppose it was because it was show on tv more than was necessary and we have impressionable young players. We see it in football all the time with our grandsons team and rivals, mimicking what the professionals do, having watched them on tv.

Yeah it was funny and if it was a local game down your club it could be laughed off. But with the eyes of most of UK watching and people of all ages including children, they shouldn’t be seeing people touching other people’s genitals and thinking that’s ok and normal. The amount of abuse that goes on and the things taught in schools about your private’s being YOUR privates and nobody should touch them, for a kid seeing it on tv they could think oh it’s ok then when my creepy uncle comes and touches me in my pants if my favourite rugby players are doing it too.

Me and my husband argued about this.

He said that rugby players (he played for 10 years) are used to it.

I love a bit of guy on guy, I bloody love rugby players. But it felt wrong to me when I saw it. It sent me straight into flash back of something horrible that I went through and made me feel uncomfortable.

At the press conference he said Joe is a good guy. But he was also saying that it shouldn't be allowed to go on.

He wasn't attacking Joe's character, not making him out to be a predator. But said it shouldn't happen. I think that's fair enough. Yeah, it's a contact sport, but that was not an incidental touch, it was intentional ... for what purpose? He wanted a reaction I think, Wyn said that to in his press conference. It was provocation.

It's definitely something that needs discussion anyway! Lines have to be clear on what is acceptable though.

Even if we had won the game the illegal tackles and the grabbed of someone’s dick would still need to be looked at.

Like I said earlier, different if the penis grab was in a local game down the club but on tv where it’s watched by many people including children, it shouldn’t be normalised for people to touch other people’s genitals.

There plenty of "banter" in rugby, and more than a smidge of homo-erotica but Marler stepped over the line... The only reason he did it was to get a reaction from AWJ.. He's left himself looking like a cock in my opinion. Expect a 12 week ban.

Your hand wouldn’t get there fast enough, I’ve got quite quick reflexes and can go from neutral to fighting stance in less than a second, as you lunged towards that area I would grab your hand and be under your arm twisting your wrist within a millimetre of snapping it.

Your hand wouldn’t get there fast enough, I’ve got quite quick reflexes and can go from neutral to fighting stance in less than a second, as you lunged towards that area I would grab your hand and be under your arm twisting your wrist within a millimetre of snapping it. "

You would get a red card for that you know. And a lengthy ban.

North Norfolk area

And Parkes.......?

Oh, I forgot, he's not English!

(of course, he's actually not Welsh either)

A bit of consistency wouldn't go amiss!
