Stereotypical ideas about what it means to be a man that can be harmful. Things like real men don't cry or openly express emotions, that men have to be the breadwinner and if your wife earns more than you it means you're weak. That kind of thing.

As THE sexiest bird on here , my understanding is this ....

Toxic masculinity refers to stereotypes that prevent men from functioning outside of those stereotypes. It can lead to men not expressing emotions- other than anger - as an emotional human would. Instead men try to live up to the 'he man' stereotypes, to be tough protectors until they can no longer sustain this and it all turns in on them and has negative effects on men themselves including depression.

It does have effects on others around them too but my concern is the effect it has on men themselves.
