Do you stop a mouse pointer jumping?

Its been doing my head in for days now

Its wireless and the bloody thing wont go were i want it too sometimes

Any ideas?

Clean the lens as suggested mate... Crud still gets in there and yes makes them jump about.. Failing that open pointing devices and re-load your drivers for the mouse.

If that fails... Hit it with a hammer..

It can a sign the batteries running low or its interference between the mouse and the receiver.

Try to keep the receiver away from the monitor and also also from other wireless devices.

If you cant move it far get a USB extension lead and move the receiver to a position nearer your mouse.

Yeah just had a pm off a really nice lady that said the same lol

Didnt think about the batteries cause haven't had it long but you never know how long it was in the bloody shop lol

Well there's usually a visible light shining out of the bottom but the light doing the work would probably be infra-red. There's always going to be light though, that's why they're optical mice

It will more than likely be interference they operate at 2.4 ghz and so do other wireless devices.

Also electric magnetic fields (EMF) cause interference from power sources so keep the receiver away from other electric equipment if you do that you should have no problem.

Sorry me again just so you know optical mice ,measure distance and record the info to move the mouse. They are accurate and work on most flat surfaces.

If you have a laser mouse they are more expensive and more accurate(better for gaming or graphic design etc) trouble is they get the info be sending a signal and receiving it back up the laser. Trouble with that is that they may jump or not work at all if you use them on a reflective or shinny or glass surface.

Optical mice do have better battery life than a optical one too so they are some differences.

Sorry to he a geek I do IT repair for work so I have to know these things

most wirless/optical/laser mice have a charger built into the reciever just stand/plug the mouse in over night and you'll never have a jumpy pointer again

I was on the TSCP (a bit like a comms help-desk) in Bosnia, and got bored with saying "Its because there is snow on the dish", when officers rang in to compain about a lack of bandwidth etc. So I made the following up...

The satellite we use has a frame made of an alloy made of titainium and iridium, which acts as a low form of capacitor, or battery, during periods of high sunspot activity. This capacitance builds up until it reaches a temperature-critical charge, which then pulses throught the satellite, temporarily degrading the system. The system then takes a while to regain its critical functions.

It sounded great, biggest giggle was I was sat eating lunch one day and heard an officer spouting it to the rest of his table like he knew what he was on about!!!

Whilst working on a support desk we often classified errors as being PEBCAK error as in Problem Exists Between Chair and Keyboard...I worked at a hospital at the time and remember laughing in the canteen as an influencial consultant reported to the CIO (who knew what the code stood for) that he had been the victim of a PEBCAK error on his PC.

We had another, an TFA fault.

Some of the equipment was in a really small space, and to access parts of it the technicians had to squeeze through a small gap. One day, whilst they were working in there, all our systems went down. They spent about an hour checking this and that, then as the Sergeant in charge moved out everything came back on..... the on/off button was situated on the side of the equipment facing the gap, and he was.... ahem.... well upholstered..... hence the term TFA, or to give it its full name..... technicians fat ass fault lol!!!

I used to work for Virgin media and BT doing IT/internet support via the telephone. Believe you and me you meet some very stupid people doing tech support.
