So I recently bought myself a kilt, I'm not Scottish, I don't think I've got a Scottish in my ancestry. But have always wanted a kilt, now I have it I'm wondering if anyone else has bought one just because they wanted to... or am I just going through a phase!!!

I'm just teasing pal. I'm sure it's very smart. It is a little odd to hear of an Englishman wearing a kilt. It's hard enough to get most Scots to wear one. I only ever wear mine to weddings or stag/group parties away.

I wondered why I couldn’t work out which tartan it was. Thought my eyes were failing

Most tartans have a range of kilts - working, day & dress. A bit like most uniforms.

Providing you’ve got the legs for it, wear it with pride. They are amazingly comfortable.

we do weird things in suffolk..lolol must be thelandscape and the number of people who exclaim at our 'big skys'..

i have a tartan skirt, but i have an excuse apparently i have a modicum of scot in me somewhere (verified by ancestry dna testing) but i dont have a certification in tartan, my gran was a floozy

enjoy it under the big open skys

I own a plain black kilt/utility kilt, it is so comfortable to wear and a great conversation starter at socials/events. I am not Scottish so I have not gone for a family tartan - although my grandfather was Scottish.

I received my plain black ‘combat’ kilt today, and have enjoyed wearing it around the house! I am 1/4 Scots (my granny is Edinburgh born and bred) and wearing a kilt is something I’ve always wanted to try! I wear shorts all the time, so swapping for a ‘skirt’ shouldn’t be too much of an issue, although I do need a decent belt as this one is a bit on the loose side (I ordered 32” inch waist). It’ll be a good talking point whatever

I wore a proper kilt way back as a drummer in a pipe band..a proper kilt is heavy as fook, used to break hangers for a past time but they were warm and they didn t move a millimetre in the wind lol. Our tartan was hunting Stewart...reason being it is a universal tartan , not designed for a particular clan.

I want a kilt but at the mo theres no point, all I do every day of every bleddy week is work. Enjoy it.

On a slight tangent, I used to love chilling in a kaftan..guess thats a dude in a dress as well hahaha

I have a rathwr splendid St Davids tartan kilt .

Its been worn on special occasions, also when I have been wandering the hills . I do avoid nettles and brambles

They re great for walking, a nice airfow and I dont mind brambles n stuff as I walk most places barefoot. I started a page once called barefoot wanderer, detailing my trips into the wilds, the nature surrounding me. Love it..good reason to get myself another me thinks

Oh hell yeah, gotta watch them lil buggers. When I lived in the woods I used to shave all my body, still do out of habit, but the reason was a health thing as it still is..it meant I could keep a daily detailed check for all the wee nasties that can hook into you or bite lol.

I was told by my Aunty Medina, who was a trad Scot living on Arran , that you were incorrectly dressed if you did not have a Skeinn Dhu ( probably wrong spelling) down your sock. This was a skinning knife but ornamental only, wrong metal to be a true knife. Most were ebony handled with an amber topstone. Funny, only time I legally carried a "knife" in bradford city centre as a kid of 11 years old. Kilts were not actually traditional dress, I think they were introduced by the Victorians. Originally it was tartan trouse worn by the clans and the plaid was a tartan sleeping blanket.

It's not a skirt and it's not joined to make a circle.

Also the Scots didn't invent kilts, the modern kilt has only been around since the 18th century.

My family are all Scots and I've got a traditional phila baeg. You have to fold it on the ground and lie down to put it on.

No specific weave; clan colours were only invented in the 19th century.
