Prob my dyslexia i see this used all the time. because people are bad at spelling it does not mean you have dyslexia. i have 5 in my family that has got dyslexia and where tested to see if there where or not. so get your self tested and dont just say you have it because you are bad at spelling.

We have close family with it so understand the problem well. It always amazes me that people try and explain bad grammar away as dyslexia as the two are so far apart. Dyslexia is far to often used as an explanation by people who didn't pay attention in English lessons at school.

I am dislexic and find it insulting that its used as a excuse. It effects much more than just spelling. I not say those that do say spelling is down to it are wrong but its bounced around far to much and makes it harder for those that do have it to be taken seriously

I can sympathise as so many who are uneducated use it as an explanation and it gives the general public the wrong impression of what dyslexia is.

that is true and that what get me at what there do i was signing on and it walks that lad must have be about 25 and said he was Dyslexa i said how do you know you are cause i cant spell, i said have you been tested to see if you are ! no he said my teacher told me, just by luck I had a test report on me as i was signing for my first time. I had show them it as i have got it and been tested. and most of the time most of the kids that say i have dyslexa its all down to not going to school, i have a program on my pc called text help and that helps me type and most times helps with my spelling.

lol made me laugh

my daughter has dyslexia and i can spot a bad speller from someone whos dyslexic a mile off

To be honest very few people who was dyslexic would make spelling mistakes on here because they are awear of their spelling they check and double check everything before they send, my daughter spell checks everything so if you see bad spelling in it the chances are they wont be dyslexic

i am dyslexic and it effects way more than my spelling way way more i have the text and speak on computer and all sorts but haven't firgured out how to connect to here only have it on windows so far. i never check my spelling when posting in forums as it is just for fun but mine effects my memory and left and right and muddling words up. and yes i was tested and to be honst when i got the results i was devasted as i only got when i went to uni if i had knowsooner i may have found ways to cope with stuff at school better than just feeling thick xxx

test help is good and it works well with the internet, but you may need to update the copy you have to NO 10. i know that dyslexia has many forms because i went and had the test and i was at collage doing an HNC that when i got tested about 10 years ago. as there say you only can help you self to find out what works for you.

"did you go have have a test or where you told by the teacher your where ? "

I was tested at college I thought I was and was told I was 'thick' all way through school but now I have extra help and extra times in tests and game outs put on different coloured paper and done in a different font etc. Its not just about spelling I been told its why my balance is shot to bits ! It effect many aspects of a persons life.

I find it makes a lot more aware of my spelling and grammar as it takes more effort for me to write something I want to do it properly. I hate seeing lazy writing because I'd give anything not to be dyslexic, people who don't have it will never understand how it effects your life and can make such simple things a hard task and often an embarrassing one.

From your post I'd never guess you're dyslexic as some have tried to convince us their poor spelling and jumbled syntax was down to dyslexia.

Thanks.

Having a smartphone with predictive texts help a lot but even writing that there were words I wanted to use but just couldn't spell them so had too use a different one, it helps to have a large vocabulary. Lol.

You can get help at any point in your life, and now days there is a lot more help of adults with it, I got very little support form school and really struggled with reading and writing when I left. But I became determined not too let it stand in the way of my life so sorted myself out, even simple things like reading books help a lot.

I had a form of dyslexia and taught myself how to read and break complicated words down into understandable text.

I'm still shit at maths though due to discalculia.

Both of these weren't recognised when I was at school, dyslexia was heard of but not many schools accepted it.

When I mentioned that I couldn't understand numbers and it was like numerical dyslexia people laughed....until it was recognised.

I understand basic maths now and have a good grasp of literacy but I'm no Oxford scholar but I'm no idiot either.

Right I'm off to count me toes and lick batteries

What puzzles me is that a word that is notoriously difficult to spell is used to describe people who have difficulty spelling words. wtf????

I get the same sense of utter astonishment at the word used to describe people who have problems saying the letter 's'.... why pick a word with the letter 's' in it!

Trying too express myself in writing is the worst part about it for me, I get really frustrated with it.

I'm about too attempt too read "a clockwork orange" for about the 10th time, It'll be a big thing for me when I finish it. Best of luck with your book.

When I was on phase two a trade instructor told me I should not be allowed in the corps and she thought that people like me were only fit to be inf at best (her words). It was a bit of a kick in the teeth at 17/18, but almost 12 years with some nice bling and strips on my chest I feel I've proven her wrong. I've always hoped to bump into one day and make her eat her words.
