Anyone got any tips for Upper foot pain? the pain is right under where my laces are. Guessing it's inflammation of the extensor tendons, which run along the top of your foot and give you the ability to pull your foot upward and straighten your toes.

Had 10 days off and went for a 6k run last night as was feeling better, but now back to square one again, so frustrating as can't excercise

We are runners, I (her) get slight inflammation there sometimes but it eases after resting and also not wearing my trainers quite so tight. I also lace my trainers up a slightly different way (as shown in the sports shop) and this helps me too.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Best of luck though, really hope you recover soon

I had a pair of insoles made at the Sweatshop. Basically the insole is heated and molded to the shape of your foot.

For Bergan/tabbing Inuse Enerter insoles which use D30 armour. This is flexible and like memory foam until an impact. Got mine from amazon.

Google different ways to tie shoe laces. I've had various issues over the years, but now do my laces different, and it's worked.

I get it sometimes there on one foot after about 6-8k starts with a numb foot. I don’t think it’s how tight the laces are but the way they are tied

Have you tried doing laps of your living room for a bit bare foot? If no discomfort it might mean that you just need differnt trainers. I'm guessing though, I'm no real help but I hope you get it sorted and get back on the pavement soon

Try lacing your trainers differently, or not doing them up so tight. Odd place for ‘pain’, from my experience.

Go to a local running shop, one where they will look at your current trainers, analyse your gait, running style, etc - not a sports shop.

What trainers are you using? Where are you running, road, track, off-road?

Thanks everyone, I'll try and answer all together.

I wear Reebock floatride running shoes and they're so comfy and have been fine until now, I also lace them as they came which was the ladder type method. Do you really think it could be the lacing?

Any tips on a quicker recovery? I'll look in to the magnesium spray too. Someone I know said just give it 6 weeks off, I'll go crazy waiting that long

10 days off isn't that long. You might need to try changing exerciae for 4 -6 weeks? Maybe swimming or using a bike or anything with no impact on the foot.

Your body also compensates when something is wrong so if your not careful you can cause a different injury.

Its frustrating but running is for life and so a few weeks off is better than a permanent injury. Good luck OP.

Freeze a bottle of water and roll your foot over it for a while... there’s a tendon that runs along the sole of your feet that shortens with bad posture and pulls your toes under slightly which stretches the top of your foot. If it is the tendon on the sole it can lead to IT band issues

And lace them uk by licking them in place. Check on line how to do it and stops the trainer moving while running

As you say they were fine to start with one thing to try is loosening the laces right off. Over time as you tighten and tie the laces up they can stay a fraction tighter each time, and eventually start to cause issues.

I have to do this with one pair of my trainers. All the rest are fine, I just have this problem with one of them.

Asked a friend about this she is a track athlete.

She recommends that you visit a dedicated running shop most towns have them nowadays. They can give impartial and sound advice for no cost.

And a simple test for Extensor Tendonitis try putting your foot down and push down on your toes, get someone to then hold your toes to the floor try to pull your toes up against the resistance. If you're feeling pain on top of your foot or along the Extensor Tendon when you're doing that then it's probably Extensor Tendonitis.

Are your Calves going tight when you run this can also cause Extensor Tendonitis.

Also a fallen foot at arch

Aww bless ya, thank you.

Yes when I do that test it really hurts on top of my foot, it hurts like hell when I walk down any steps too.

Not noticed anything from my calves or arch problems though. Problem is it took so long to get used to my running shoes as I've soft feet so get blisters galore, I really don't want to change them if I can help it. But after everyone's advice I'm going to go for a proper test once I can at least slowly run again and see what they say.

Been running for 4 years now and can't imagine not being able to do it anymore.

I get this sometimes too.... it feels like the lace us too tight...definitely worth getting the gait analysis... the wrong pair of trainers can ruin everything for u. I just have a dodgy ankle after an old rugby injury, so I strap my ankle up when running now. My new injury of late is on the outside of my ankle which is a strange one!!

The joys of running eh, feel your pain. I've very soft feet so I used to constantly nurse blisters, spent more time off my feet than on in the early days. Perseverance is all we can do.

properly fitted trainer's and possibly footbeds will be your best bet and check out the"step over" technique to look at how your actual running technique maybe causing issues. Remember it's not running that is causing you pain it's the interaction with the ground.
