"I have just been called "..a keyboard warrior with a high opinion of himself" in a political Thread. Fair enough maybe and while everyone is free to air their opinions of issues it came on the back of many other unnecessarily crass and rude comments to other people in Threads. Now I don't know about others but I find it quite wrong to be called 'Tory scum' or '"complete with stupid insults and cretinous accusations" or "racist". And I have to wonder if its worth contributing to Forums when you leave yourself open to blatant abuse. So: Has the t'internet caused us to lose the ability to argue, agree or diagree and then go down the pub for a pint. Or three. ??" One must remember that debating used to be carried out mainly face to face, and as such most people were always more careful of words used. One must also remember that information is alot easier to come by and as such more people can make a better argument. But keep it up you do put some good points across

"Thing is that it's an open forum and you cannot post and expect everyone to agree with you, that would make a debate incredibly dull. On the other hand, knowing what you do now, you can decide whether to post your honest opinion or not, its up to you to stand by what you believe in, in the same instance, listen to others and don't cloud your judgement of them by their political stance. And just because others don't agree with you, or you them, doesn't mean to say that you will be bitter enemies does it? What everyone needs is an open mind, to learn from what people say, after all just because you feel this way, doesn't mean its wholly right does it? And going down the pub sounds a great idea, shame I will be on the other side of the bar " A pint of lager and 2 packets of crisps if I may then .... Oh disagreement is a wonderful thing and I know we all learn from differing views. But its HOW these views are handled and presented that seems to have changed very substantially IMHO.

"The way I look at it is that people on the internet are not 'real'. Of course they are but the only interaction I am having with them is a few written words on a website. They don't form any part of my life or have any input into it. I spend time reading their opinions and responding when I wish to. But they are just one click out of my life, I can switch them off anytime I want. All of my working life I have dealt with conflict situations on a daily basis. I have had no choice but to communicate effectively in order to diffuse situations, whilst having abusive names screamed at me and the very real threat of violence. Therefore the online community of faceless people offering opinions whilst sitting on their sofas, sometimes becoming personal with snide insults are absolutely no threat in comparison. People are just a click away and their thoughts and opinions directed at you are gone, that's the best way to look at it - does it really matter what they call you " Totally agree with this. Nevertheless, it doesn't alter the fact there's a nasty undertone on the forums at times and saying "dont read them" just about sums it up. My partner is white, I'm rather well off so don't have any chips on my shoulder or feel repressed. If I find it unpleasant I doubt I'm alone. I've been here long enough to be able to judge the threads that kick off. I may read them with sadness and seldom comment, but sometimes you read something you feel compelled to comment. Sometimes people honestly don't think what they've said is offensive, especially when they use sweeping generalisations, but it doesn't alter how it appears to me when reading it. But hey...

Why not take this to PMs?I've no desire to cause you any offence and I've already explained to you that you chose to take a general remark (about the low level of tribal political debate on here) personally, but you've carried on having a hissy fit after exposing yourself as talking nonsense with complete authority (in the Local Elections thread). First of all you told us the law allowed something, then you said the law didn't need to allow it, complete with a cod latin phrase that was both out of context and pretentious, then you went quiet when you got an answer you weren't expecting. Don't want to be called a keyboard warrior? Don't make dishonest and unfounded assertions that you can't stand up. It's quite simple. If you really did believe what you claimed in that thread, explain how you came to your conclusions. Maybe even man up and apologise for having such a tantrum when you were wrong.

What I find really irriatating is the reluctance to read what has actually been said and understand basic English. I don't talk in hieroglyphs so it's quite a simple task to figure out what I'm saying from what I've ..er... said." Have not read the topic where where you have been called a racist but having read a lot of your past postings would it be from a Scot that you were called racist bya any chance?

I don't dislike Scots people at all and I have many friends who are Scottish in fact. I've been to Scotland several times and found it a lovely place to visit. That doesn't detract from my political feelings that they should become an independent country.

The problem I think is that some people feel you'd like them to become independent whether they want to or not, which is more akin to divorce than devolution......

I've always been consistent in my view that Scotland should be independent if they vote for it. On every 'Should Scotland blah blah blah' thread I've posted on I've said the same thing. I've also said that the English shouldn't have a vote on it as it wouldn't reflect how Scottish people feel about independence, and that's what we're really talking about here - how the majority of Scots feel about it, and it has to happen only if Scotland want it to. The English weren't polled over any other territory that claimed independence and Scotland should be no different. Let them decide for themselves.

Or three. ??" Ah a pint or three my kind of man,the pen is mighter than the sowrd,(or the key board)i myself would rather go down the pub meet who ever and argue the point and have a pint or three regardless of there political veiws,HOWEVER,it is a little anoying when we keep harping back to its all labours fault when you torys oops (conservative) no fine well that they have both made mistakes .Its like them on the front benches in the commons, insted of standing slaging each other off .you did that no we did not. gen down to work and do the job we paye you for .

"The thread has gone. It's no longer here for evidence. I don't remember anyone being called a racist. I DO remember someone saying that a post was racist and inflammatory. " I didn't even remember the thread never mind the post There are lots of people accusing others of being racist lately....but there are borderline racist posts too so maybe I am not surprised it has gone.

And I have to wonder if its worth contributing to Forums when you leave yourself open to blatant abuse. So: Has the t'internet caused us to lose the ability to argue, agree or diagree and then go down the pub for a pint. Or three. ??Why not take this to PMs?I've no desire to cause you any offence and I've already explained to you that you chose to take a general remark (about the low level of tribal political debate on here) personally, but you've carried on having a hissy fit after exposing yourself as talking nonsense with complete authority (in the Local Elections thread). " Some years ago someone said on here: "Why let the truth intrude on a good flaming ..." And it is still relevant. And so with this quoted post you all now know who was at the root of this Thread and which has defeated the point of me not naming anyone. I was actually asking a wider question and not having a 'hissy fit' or being in any way dishonest as this man says and I think all the replies (bar this one) have shown a wide and varied range of views and advice as was hoped when I asked the question. And on that note I really think the Forums are not for me after all. But thanks to all those that made me think more, smile more and who shared some good natured banter.

" If that is true then what about one of your most recent posts where you threatened to go to Austalia if Labour ever got back in power then a cpl of posts down you stated on second thought I dont think i would as there will be too many Scots there and that is one of more than a few posts where you were a little more thasn insulting towards the Scots. If you dont like us then be man enough to say it as its glaringly obvious anyway.
