Somewhere In The Ether…

.....That is actually better than the film it features in.

Yes - list examples if you please.

I’ll give a few by way of example:

Riz Ortolani’s beautiful score for Ruggero Deodato’s rather grimy, Cannibal Holocaust

John Williams, ‘Cavatina’ from The Deer Hunter

and Ennio Morricone’s score for, La Professionnel.

Off you go good folks

Do you mean John Williams the British guitarist as opposed to American the film composer? Was the Cavatina played by him on the soundtrack? I know it was composed by Stanley Meyers, and not originally for The Deer Hunter.

Yes that’s the one I remember the beautiful main track also being used on, ‘The Gallery’ segment on one of Tony Hart’s art shows many moons ago.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Steve Jablonsky‘s rousing score for the original Transformers movie; I absolutely hated the film though so the soundtrack was about the only positive I could list

Somewhere In The Ether…

The soundtrack (especially the end title track) composed by Claudio Simonetti for Dario Argento’s, Dracula (3D).

Actually, Claudio (along with his band, Goblin) have supplied many a brilliant score over the years, often for films that probably didn’t deserve them.

Travelling

I often prefer movie scores than the soundtrack (very few exceptions!)

Ry Cooder every film track he's ever done.

Midnight Express, Giorgio Moroder

Jaws, John Williams (all of his work to be honest)

Blade Runner, Vangelis

Somewhere In The Ether…

Alan Silvestri‘s highly rousing synth score for, The Delta Force starring a certain Mr Chuck Norris.

The film was not exactly the best.

.....But don’t tell Chuck that I said that....

Brilliant call for Midnight Cowboy especially What a beautiful soundtrack.....in an admittedly superbly made but utterly, utterly unhappy film (Poor Rizzo!)

Last of the Mohicans. Not fond of the film, but the score is incredible.

Lord of the Rings. While not exactly better than the film, the music is mind-blowing.

The recent Jane Eyre, with Fassy, has a beautiful score too.

And, while not a film, Game of Thrones. 'Light of the Seven' gives me goosebumps.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Jerry Goldsmith’s superb score for, The Mummy.

The film wasn’t up to too much and there’s only so much I can tolerate of Brendan Frasier onscreen so the soundtrack provided a nice distraction.
