Should be an option to close your "own thread" here.

Some people take them way off topic and turn something usually light-hearted into nasty hate fuelled topics.

Many a thread of him has been ruined here.

Why, just because a thread doesn't go the way yoiu like?

How about taking a bit of responsibility and thinking before you type?

Fail to see how your opening post of the Iron Lady thread could ever be considered as "light hearted".

if you really feel comments are hateful there is a report button. Up to the mods then.

Why not ... I would like to open it and say something way off like

I love TUNA AND BANANA

Then close it after someone says I have a sick taste in pizza toppings

Of course I don't partake in tuna or banana toppings but I like to stir things up a bit

I like threads. Reading back on some I think I might actually mis-word some?

All I see here is OP's closing threads because they don't go the way they expected it to do. ie someone disagrees with the OP's views ...

A kind of toys out of the pram scenario

No, it would never work, sorry OP

Your first hurdle is that you don't have your "own thread".

A common misconception though so don't feel bad about it.

No.

The OP does NOT own the thread.

It is owned by ALL who wrote on it.

I now have a share in this one.

Why should the OP be allowed to rub it out.

Silly idea.

No such thing as your own thread.

Just because you started it, doesn't mean it's your property.

Well if you had the ability to close your own thread you would probably find the person who annoyed you to the point of closing would start a part2 and then you would be doubly pissed. Best bet is to ignore if you don't like someone.

No basically. Its an open and public forum and its up to anyone to open a Thread or not as they choose and be prepared for the consequences. (Within the rules of polite and courteous debate).

But I do think the Mods should close down certain Threads alot quicker and the OPs 'Iron Lady' thread was a very good example.

No I don't think an OP should be able to close a thread because once it doesn't go how they like it and have a response they don't like or someone disagrees with what they say, they would close it, just utter pure childishness and immaturity

Mods are not online 24 hours a day, so sometimes threads run a while before a mod logs in or reads the forums ( mods may be doing other things like...arranging meets with hunky men

If however you do think a thread or post needs dealing with, report the posts themselves and Admin deal with it if they are logged in of course.

You just have to realise that the site isn't manned just at the same time as a thread might go haywire.

not sure how the op can think anymore before they type, surely if they post a thread and it goes off topic then the op cant be responsible for thinking what others type!!!

I agree btw, when you post a thread you should have the option to delete it

because sometimes people post things and its already been posted a million times, and the only responce is "see other thread" and also people post things that dont get a single reply, and we all have to search through them to get to the good stuff, would be alot easier and make the board less cluttered

Thats not quite what I said.

I said if two or more people start a thread with the same subject within a short space of time, then the multiples will be taken off.

Posting subjects that have been posted before is fine and don't get taken off unless they break rules or go haywire.

Start a ball rolling and you have no control over where it goes as soon as it leaves your hand...

Sometimes hijacked threads are the funniest - anel anyone?

And why start a thread if you already think you know how everyone will respond? If you're after a mutual appreciation society then the internet is not the place to be.

The Town by The Cross

Scenario.

Everyone is given the 'power' to delete any thread they started.

You brew up. You settle down to read posts n respond if you want to.

People take the hump at what you or others say or just decide the topic isn't needed.

Before long EVERYTHING you read or wrote that morning will have gone 'poof'

There would be NO point to contributing at all. Ownership of communication gone. Part of who says what stays and what goes..... gone.

It'd end up with people opening posts to give them the say so of whether it goes or stays so inevitably most would be talking to themselves as no one would reply to them as they know the OP will just take the thread down.

Stupid idea of the year award for this.

Now if you had it ..... you could take it down But you have to live with the thoughts of others.

Isn't that what you come here for in the first place ?
