We used Aer lingus last year and added bonus of clearing immigration in Dublin. They were very good and a lot cheaper than all the other airlines x

Within America, Frontier and spirit are like Easy jet & Ryan Air.

Can't help with cheap transatlantic flights, I'm hoping a virgin to get there

Flights are ridiculously expensive at the moment.

Our flights to Spain have just cost us £196 more than last year!

I asked a friend who is a travel agent and he said they are all very high this year.

That is interesting, last time I was stateside the return leg was £150 more to be in premium economy, bloody amazing on a 10 hour flight with Virgin, alas I cannot find anything nearly as good this time

I find a 'deal' via kayak or skyscanner you click on it to book and it is hand luggage only or the deal cannot be found

I am sure something will pop up

Yes that's our experience too.

We did find that changing the dates made a big difference to the price.

I thought I was going mad or my internet was broken!

Having said that BA website was so slow last night and American Airlines failed to even produce any results after entering my criteria!

My friend did say that it was partly do a lot of airlines around the world going bust or in trouble.

He also said book now as prices will go up further due to caronavirus.

I'm not sure as I thought they might go down because of that.

Yes we have been told that too.

We don't normally but we have this time.

Also people are being quantined in their hotel so I guess it's a precaution worth taking.

OP have you checked the ITA matrix?

It scans everything everywhere. Its ugly and clunky but it works. I saved a fortune because you can jiggle dates and providers easily.

Central

Always compare and always monitor for airline sales periods. Sign up for the airlines you expect to fly with, for them to notify you when their sales start.

I often book multi-city flights in the USA, finding them better value than individuals - typically with 1 airline. Be flexible on dates for leaving the UK, if possible and aim for advance booking.

I have an annual travel insurance policy attached to my bank account

I've found that you can still save money if you look at a price comparison website, take the names of who is cheapest then look again on the tuesday, directly with the companies, from a different device.

I don't use comparison sites properly though as I don't fly economy. I use them more to get an idea of who flies the particular routes

I was about to suggest this too. Use the multi city tab on kayak or skyscanner, it’s amazing how often doing this pulls up the best deals available. Look on matrix pages and if you can be a little flexible, huge savings are possible. Good luck!

Yes been looking at the multi city tabs

Managed to get it under a grand today flying in/out with BA and bouncing around with Southwest, however a hotel in New york for one night will be required!

Keeping an eye on prices etc and playing with dates and cities too. Will check out the Matrix thing someone mentioned

I just use Google flights. I don't find Skyscanner user-friendly or good value. I did Heathrow to Miama for £300 return in January. That'slless than a return to Edinburgh by train from where we live.
