Seriously tho folks, this is such a big step for someone like me.

It takes a lot of time and you have to jump through a lot of hoops to tick all the boxes.

You can do so much to your own body without permission but to get a surgeon to requires two independent referrals from qualified and experienced professionals.

Yesterday’s green light number one brought out so many emotions.

I wanted to run up to complete strangers and hug them. I was so happy. Excited. Relieved. I wanted to laugh and cry.

Hopefully you realise it can be a challenge, particularly as a mature trans person.

The surgery is brutal, I've nursed post op trans people. Bleeding is a big issue and post op care from you is a must. It's not easy as the support outside big cities can vary.

Good luck and it's very brave xx

Thank you.

I didn’t get this far with my eyes shut though.

I’m also very aware that many trans people end up on the love shelf. This could ensure I see my life out alone but I was born to be me.

I don’t understand how you’ve had so much trouble getting a gic referral? Name changed and on hormones so long, surely you should be where I am by now? Xx

Honestly, it was due to my previous GP he never really took anything like that seriously. Tried to open a lawsuit against him for Medical Negligence leaving me with severe anxiety and body hate, but no lawyer would take it

Since moving up here, I've waited 3 additional years but they did keep to their word and refer me so I'm not complaining. It is a bit shitty though as HRT would've worked a lot better 10 years ago than what they would now

Have they gave you a date for your surgery? You must literally be over the moon! I really hope it goes amazing and you are overjoyed with the results - I hope you have good people to surround yourself with after? It's such a big and positive step and I hope this brings so much more happiness to you sweet xx

I guess surgery can be brutal and I guess some people may have a hard time with recovery and post op care. However, that is not always the case. Some people find it a breeze and have no, or only minor difficulties with recovery.

I'm sure no one would wish to try to frighten anyone off just as I'm sure it would not do to gloss over any potential complications.

Everyone is different and everyone can expect to have their own unique outcome from this type of surgery.

Even in the worst case scenario, a person undergoing this journey most likely considers it worth any risk.

You don't ask yourself 'can I afford to fo this?' You ask yourself 'can I afford NOT to?'.

Hormones years earlier would have been great but it didn’t pan out like that for me.

I started them 4 days before my 48th birthday and they’ve done wonders for the way I feel about myself and that’s what matters.

I have just been exchanging email with my surgeon and been booked in for the beginning of June. Both surgeons are available then. (Reassignment & breast surgery).

Thank you and good luck xx

And,Rachael. My advice, for what it's worth, would be to be rather discerning about who you give it away to.

You'll have gone through a lot to earn yourself something beautiful and special. Make sure anyone who wants a piece of your gift,is worth it.

Obviously, it's entirely up to you how you live your life but,I'd say 'realise your own value'.

X

Digging through paperwork to compile my ‘evidence’ I saw my dead name countless times. It didn’t really bother me. Not the way it does when I get dead named or misgendered.

However, seeing letters to Mr and dear sir turned my tummy over. Caused that burning feeling deep down. I could never go back to that now.

I used to fear losing my wife and my financial life plan collapsing. Well that’s happened anyway and I’m still here.

No; I can’t afford to not do this.

I had looked at the posts before mine and felt it only right to be honest. As I said I have seen and nursed people post op.

I also know how society treats women and, that in itself can be shocking, if you've grown up male there is alot of male privilege that are both obvious and others stubtle.

I hope those transitioning are not simply seen as objects for others pleasure. And, I honestly wish happiness to those who undergo this surgery.

I’ve never been so nervous before I had my assessment. Properly trembling. I had half an hour as I was early to calm myself through breathing exercises. I needed it.

It was a long meeting and thorough.

Afterwards I could nearly feel my feet below me. I was so excited. Euphoric.

I can only imagine how I’ll feel on the other side. I’ve pulled it forward by two months and I can’t wait for this time to pass.
