I read a case where a great white shark attacked a surfer in Australia.. the surfer hit the shark in the eye socket and on the nose.. he lived to tell the tale.. these sharks are evil

How are the sharks evil? If you go in their domain then you should expect to get eaten. They don’t have the best eyesight so will just assume anything floating is good for eating.

Masked and Distant

He was in the sharks domain, sharks are the top of that domains food chain, prepare to get eaten.

Shark noses are a mass of intense sense receptors, apparently punching them on the nose is agony and will stop an attack.

Sharks only usually take one bite of a human, they taste that they are not an energy rich source of food so dont tend to go back for another bite.

I thank Discovery channel shark week for the above

Agree about hunting to extinction, not a nice thing just for soup.

But really they attack surfers as from below they have an identical outline to a seal, one of their food sources.

You’re obviously trolling but what a weird subject to troll about.

Any wild animal that attacks or kills a human doesn’t do it out of hatred or spite or malice. They can’t go to McDonalds or Tesco to get their food and they can’t distinguish between a food source or a possible threat, any person that goes into their territory should expect to be eaten or attacked.

Shame to see one of the oldest creatures on this planet wiped out just because it’s a predator..... if we did that how different are we from them ?

Only one difference we are a species killing because we can and don’t like something, where as all the other species on this planet, kill to eat and survive

We are the bad species on this planet !

"I would hunt them to extinction and make soup from their fins.. they attack for no reason "

Shark fin soup is banned in lots of country's including China, although it can still be found served illegally. This is not just because the sharks are being fished into extinction but because the Chinese fishermen cut the fins off and throw the still alive and twitching shark back into the sea. The fin is worth more than the shark itself so they fill the boats up with as many fins as possible. That's a lot of sharks left to die in the sea.

We should leave the sharks alone and keep out of their territory. Sharks don't kill for fun or profit they need to eat and stay alive.

I've had a lot of close encounters with sharks, a few of them were dangerous encounters, and a couple were close calls with Tiger and Bull Sharks. I have a very healthy fear and respect for the danger they can present. But I'm not scared of them and wouldn't consider them 'Evil' in any way.

Crocodiles however are a different story.... I know they're not actually evil, but they do scare the shit out of me lol. They don't mess around, you feel the intent when they stalk you, there is no curiosity like you get with sharks, lions or snakes. Crocs don't come to look at you..... they come to look for an opportunity to kill and eat you. I get the cold sweats just thinking about them!

"What is an Apex predator please?"

Depends how technical you want to go.

Generally it is the predator at the top of the food chain with no natural predators that regularly attack them solely for food.

As a species humans are the ultimate apex predator due to our technology, no other animal can stand up vs a gun, bomb etc.

But officially humans are not considered apex predators because we are omnivores and don't eat meat exclusively.

Megladon is/was considered the apex predator of all time.

Sharks are not actually interested in humans, they only attack because they think we're seals. That's why they take one bite, realise we're not food and let go.

Unfortunately one bite is often enough to kill a human, but the shark doesn't know that, not does it intend to kill humans.

The evil ones are the people who herd sharks into shallow water, hack their dorsal find off and leave to swim away, dying in agony.

Statistically, you're far more likely to win the lottery jackpot than be bitten by a shark - especially if you don't invade it's territory.

That's a very good point, nursing cows see humans as a threat, so trample them.

Prescot

It would be better to wipe out the most vicious, deadly predator on the planet, one that kills just for pleasure... the human race.

Oh but then you constantly moan when nature tries to do that with a virus.

Don’t worry I’m sure another neurotic cause will be along in a minute.

"Shark attacks are serious

Wake up Peoples"

I've put shark netting around the house, we live next to the sea so it seems like a sensible precaution. Got to think ahead with global warming and the sea rising if our house ends up underwater I don't want to get eaten in my bed

Protect sharks. It's your choice how you respond if it's got an eager mouth by you. Humans have done so much damage to so many diverse shark species, it's inexcusable.

"In world war two a German sub sank an English ship..

600 souls were eaten by sharks..

Actually most died from drinking sea water but there we are. "

In July 1945, Indianapolis completed a top-secret high-speed trip to deliver parts of Little Boy, the first nuclear weapon ever used in combat, to the United States Army Air Force Base on the island of Tinian, and subsequently departed for the Philippines on training duty. At 0015 on 30 July, the ship was torpedoed by the Imperial Japanese Navy submarine I-58, and sank in 12 minutes. Of 1,195 crewmen aboard, approximately 300 went down with the ship.[4] The remaining 890 faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning, and shark attacks while stranded in the open ocean with few lifeboats and almost no food or water. The Navy only learned of the sinking four days later, when survivors were spotted by the crew of a PV-1 Ventura on routine patrol. Only 316 survived.[4] The sinking of Indianapolis resulted in the greatest single loss of life at sea, from a single ship, in the history of the US Navy.[a]

"Hung those monsters.. and crocodiles also..

Hey ... don't miss hippos out, biggest killer in Africa

I don't mind the hippos...leave them alone and they won't bother you but a croc will attack regardless

Don't swim in the sea and you won't be attacked by a shark ..."

Interesting fact, 100% of shark attack victims were wet when they were attacked!
