You know how it is; You’ve enjoyed the film all the way through and then for the finale you’re rewarded with the main protagonist dying(!) or else some other downbeat plot twist which leaves you feeling more than a little deflated.

I watched a Liam Neeson Film yesterday called The Grey. The ending was soooo annoying and ridiculous.

Also, Downsizing with Matt Damon. A film that went nowhere and the ending was shit.

The so termed, ‘Spaghetti Western’, The Great Silence: The hero is mute as his vocal cords were slit by the villains (led by perennial looney Klaus Kinski) when he was younger so he seeks revenge with a modified revolver.

Years later, in the finale, the main villain and his cronies take a load of hostages and threaten to kill them all unless the hero faces them in a shootout.

Fair enough? The hero is sure to wipe the floor with the miscreants right? Well, actually not for firstly they shoot the hero dead(!) before his grief stricken love interest picks up his gun and they kill her to(!!)

Finally, (seemingly just to make the audience even more depressed than they already are) the scumbags proceed to shoot ALL the hostages(!!!) and we last see Klaus the head villain, smirking merrily at his handy work (!!!!)

Boxing Helena, was a shit film anyway but the ending made it worse.

American Phsyco kinda messed with my head.

Series not film, Fringe - it was like they just needed to get it finished. Ending of Grimm was similar

Given the 'Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' posts, can I just check no one was expecting a happy ending from a film about the Holocaust, were they...?

On a lighter note, I'll add 'La La Land' - nowhere near as harrowing as some of the films mentioned, but that feeling of love lost and missed opportunities. 'One Day' for similar reasons.

What can I say, I'm a hopeless romantic!

Lars indeed. Antichrist certainly had its moments but generally I found that whole trilogy quite mesmerising.
