I don’t like workmates coming into my space for some strange reason. But friends and family mostly have an open door policy they can stay whenever they want or just come round. I also host fab wise. I just don’t like work people knowing my business.

There have been sites that collect profile pics from sites like this, with detailed critiques of decor, tastes etc.

Imagine if your home got done - and they'd not ignore your splayed arse, or whatever, whilst going for it

I love a house full of friends. I like that they can just tip up anytime and help themselves to wine or wash the dishes if the mood takes them. I'm not one for fancy decor or matching furniture. It is what it is and it's homely. I obviously would adore a minimal showhome that doesn't need much attention but I have a dog and a teenager so that's never going to happen.

Sort of, ive kept some original features but also added things modern like theres alot of natural concrete finish and a ultra modern almost clinical kitchen, very tall Victorian skirting boards which are traditional, ive rebuilt the house so and raised the whole ceiling from 2.5m to almost 3meter, exterior is white with grey windows grey roof, warm maple wood details. My mum said it feels like walking into a nuclear bunker. My neighbours hate it because its not 'fitting' with the traditional village feel... i love it thats all that matters

Peoples houses have no bearing on how I feel about them - I used to have a friend that was a hoarder

I tried to help her - but it was impossible!

And long stories about furniture coming from a Hessian sack from Outer Mongolia are a yawn fest.

Most of my furniture is donated or from IKEA

A few pieces of artwork are displayed.

Cleverly designed lighting creates the perfect ambience dependent on the time of day / time of year etc.

The kitchen is very much the centre piece of my home and is where most of the living takes place...

I’m quite nosey like that.

I like homely quirky cosy homes, not into sparse show homes personally.

I don’t invite anyone around here as it’s not my home. It’s not decorated in my style and it doesn’t have my choice of furnishings.

I always keep my place clean and tidy, but at the end of the hallway is a short flight of stairs to nowhere (used to connect to the house next door) and that is my 'loft space'. In my lounge there is only one piece of furniture that was bought new, a footstool someone bought me when I moved here. Both sofas were donated, my sideboard and book case were my great-grandmother's wedding presents bought in 1924 and I have a side table and a coffee table I bought in charity shops.

Friends and family are welcome whenever they want, and can walk in without knocking. They know where the kettle is.

I don't invite work colleagues, though.

I'm in the process of doing it up but I think it's me. There are a lot of personal things around but I don't like clutter.

I want people to feel that they can kick off their shoes and put their feet up and feel comfortable in my house.

Rarely get visitors (cant cope with folk that "were just in the area"). Have a small child a dog and no sense of smell. Am constantly cleaning as, if anyone were to visit, I'd hate for anyone to think the place smelt. Have learned to shut the door to Princess room as I know, no matter how much I ask it's never tidy.

I'm happy in my space and, although I do have a lot of "tut" it's usually tidy.

I do accommodate (on the rare times a meet pans out) but have found that a meet only cares about my bedroom, undies and toys!

I prefer homely and quirky too - I moved 8 weeks ago and my flat looks empty

I like plants and stuff that's personal to me.

We all need our private space and our home is the one we all have close to us, but if you happen to find yourself in mine please remove your shoes and always use a coaster for your drinks, but I try not to be to pedantic with my house guest.

2 teenage girls, both working full time and an elderly German shepherd that’s sheds enough fur to fill a bin bag daily and dislikes strangers, means we are not really super comfortable with people coming around at the moment.

I think how I live now may be a direct result of growing up in such chaos. I dont like people in my space - not family, not friends, not lovers.

I will host dinners but it's a relief to see people go, and I will trade my solitude for sex, but I won't even answer the buzzer if I'm not expecting anyone.

some of this is exactly how I feel.

I grew up in a chaotic messy home where the back door was always open for family and friends.

Neighbors were always knocking at the door and I was never alone growing up until I shut myself in my room as a teenager.

I continued to live in an open house as a young adult with my partner and we used to have people drop over daily - pre mobile phone days.

I would cook and entertain and love all of it.

As I'm getting older the more I want my space to be mine and clean and tidy.

No mess, no other people, kids, animals or people knocking at the door unexpectedly.

I'm curious as to how others live, not because I want to judge negatively but because I wonder about the sort of home they have, how tidy etc.

I love hosting dinner parties, over December we have an open door policy and I always have festive fare to serve them, I don't mind people calling around if in the area for tea/a catch up. I do get a bit exhausted though - if my siblings come and stay the day after they've left I feel drained. So I do like my space but I also like having a fairly open house to friends and family.

I love my flat - but I feel like its naked and doesnt represent me.

That takes money and time I don't have.

Dubai & Nottingham

We’re quite nosey and like to host dinner parties, unfortunately right now it’s not easy. We usually go for older properties or cottages with beams, log burners but right now have a very modern place which is large and practical but not very sexy

Mrs M is a Rightmove viewer also.

There aren't many days where I will come home to be asked what I think of this one.

That said we are looking for our retirement property.

Local to where we are currently, character, so barn or cottage with access to local amenities etc.

Hard to find but we are in no rush so the right one will pop up before I am ready to hang up my workboots.

I found a nice one yesterday on Rightmove by a river. Probably about ten times what I could afford but it's lovely and a great location.....but the decor is awful

Haha yeah - I love my new flat it's in a conservation area blahh blah but it lacks all the character the rest of the houses on the street have.

I saw a beautiful ancient house down the road on Rightmove and the decor is AWFUL!

And the beams and small windows make it look pokey
