Just watching this reported on the Beeb. "Worst case of car clocking trading standards have ever seen" some car dealer has allegedly removed over 200.000 miles and now they want to ban it alltogether, which is all very nice in a perfect world. but in the real world it is not the car dealers (not that I am defending them in anyway) who are soley responsible for this but it is the general public I know of someone who carries out this so called mileage correction service who drives a new Mercedes ownes a very expensive house and holidays abroad 3 times a year and after a conversation with him he told me easily 90% of his customers are just normal everyday people who have nothing to do with the motor trade whatsoever. It is not illegal in any way to alter the mileage on your odometer...........it is only illegal when you alter this reading to decieve someone when you sell it to them. The mileage shown on any speedometer to be honest means nothing at all if I was buying it.

Back in the day before mileage was recorded digitally, an associate of mine told me a story about when he decided to clock a second hand car before attempting to sell it for a profit….

Having carefully removed the Speedometer from the dashboard he removed the screws holding the cover on the back of the Speedo in order to gain access to the mileage recording tumblers, so that he could make the mileage adjustment….

However on removing the cover, he discovered a little sticker inside the cover saying “ FUCKING HELL, NOT AGAIN!
